  • How to make perfect Shakshuka (Shakshouka) recipe - Eggs are poached in a delicious tomato sauce, very easy to prepare, healthy, comforting, flavorful, wonderful colors, definitely a must try recipe. Shakshuka is usually served for breakfast, though I think it’s perfect for brunch on lazy weekends. This dish is best served right away after cooking alongside some crusty bread or pita.
To print the recipe check the full recipe on my blog:

    #shakshuka #eggsintomatosauce #homecookingadventure
    0:00 - Intro
0:17 - Preparing the tomato sauce
2:30 - Make room for eggs
    2:40 - Add eggs
    2:47 - Cook the eggs
    3:08 - Enjoying Shakshuka
    Ingredients
    Makes about 4-6 servings
    1 tbsp olive oil
    1 medium onion, diced
    2 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium red bell pepper, chopped
2 cans (14 oz.- 400g each) diced tomatoes
    2 tbsp (30g) tomato paste
    1 tsp chili powder
    1 tsp ground cumin
    1 tsp paprika
    chili flakes, to taste
    1 tsp sugar
salt and freshly ground black pepper
    6 eggs
    fresh parsley/cilantro for garnish
    1. Heat olive oil in a 12 inch (30cm) frying pan over medium heat.Add onion and cook for about 5 minutes until the onion begins to soften. Stir in garlic.
    2. Add red bell pepper and continue to cook for 5-7 minutes over medium heat until softened
    3. Stir in tomato paste and diced tomatoes and add all the spices and sugar. Season with salt and pepper and allow to simmer over medium heat for 10-15 minutes until it starts to reduce. Adjust the seasonings according to your tastes, add more chili flakes for a spicier sauce or sugar for a sweeter one.
    4. Crack the eggs over the tomato mixture, one in the middle and 5 around the edges of the pan. Cover the pan and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the eggs are cooked.
    5. Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro and serve with crusty bread or pita. Enjoy!

I've seen recipes for this dish all over, and this is the first time I've seen it made with canned tomatoes, but especially with a *bell pepper* added to it. The bell pepper seems like a nice and tasty variation. This, served with some crusty bread (like those shown) and some black Turkish tea, and I'd be in virtual heaven. Thanks!

Chakchuka is a summer dish that North africans (algeria, marocco, tunisia) prepare when tomatoes and peppers are naturally tastefull , so no need to add tomato paste, it's not natural. Traditionally we add garlic. In algeria we have several kinds of chakchuka: the one whith paprikas, the one with aubergines, the one with tomato and garlic, the one with zuchinni, and a very delicious one whitch is called "chakchouka machouia",you first gril vegetables before you put them to cook in oil. The respect of seasons and the quality of vegetables are very important, in Europe you find the hole year nice vegetables but mostly without taste and not natural.

Home Cooking Adventure It's not easy for me because english is not my language, but I ll try: fist you have to grill 1 kg peppers (green or green and red), 300g ripe tomatoes,1 or 2 chilli peppers (optional). You put everything in a heat oven 200° and you let it + - 1 hour. When the peel because black take the vegetables out from the oven and let them cool down and peel them (never under water). Put then 8 or 10 garlic cloves in a mortar till you get a paste, you can add dried chilli (optional).
Put 12 soup spoon oil (mix of olive oil and sunflower) in a heat pan, add your garlic paste and add 1 soup spoon powder paprika, add immediatly your peppers and tomatoes dises , let it cook, mix from time to time ,it does not have to burn, when water is absorbed add some eggs (4) and let it cook 1 or 2 minutes. This is chakchouka with grilled vegetables from Oran . Add a little beat olive oil befor you serve it.

No , it's not ; Turkish menemen is a kind of shakshuka : menemen contain cheese and sujuk and without onion , shakshuka is without cheese . Every dish a mixture of eggs and tomatoes is a shakshuka and there are many types : it's originally Tunisian and Lybian but it becomes a Mediterranean dishes !

gémeaux 24, you are completely wrong in many ways... Turkish menemen is basically made of Tomatoes ,green peppers (bell peppers are just as fine) and eggs. There is second way, you can add onions. There are different options for toppings like yellow cheese, white cheese, sucuk in menemen is possible but not very much desirable. Any nation who has these basic ingredients for summer time can cook it and name it in their language. It does not need to be originated from this or that country. More than that none of these Mediterranean countries had this dish, up until a couple of hundreds years ago. Because, tomatoes originated from South America not from North Africa....By the way, Turks have another dish called as “Saksuka”, which is a fried eggplant based cold vegetable platter mixed with tomato sauce. Another variation of this might have yogurt accompanied with the platter.
