Tonight we try possibly the rye of the year. It’s a shortbarrel MGP 131 proof 12 year old rye. Will this beat 13th Colony cask strength rye and others?

Great review. I appreciated you tasting it along with other ryes. OKI has a 11.5 year 95/5 MGP rye. River Roots also sourced some similar 95/5 MGP rye which they are using for barrel picks as well. #yearoftherye
It does seem like we are in a rye resurgence of high age stated ryes. And I’m here for it

It sure is amazing stuff. You know the darker the better haha. I hadn’t paid much attention to them but if they keep doing picks like that they will make a good name for themselves

Yeah absolutely agree. I saw a couple other places had picks in the 11-12yr range and similar proof so if you can get your hands on it it’s fantastic stuff

Fantastic video! I will never get tired of your emotional reaction to these high proof aged whiskeys. Regarding comparables, I think Whistlepig has some SBBP offerings with both 10 and 12 year age statements. But somehow, I doubt they will compare to the ShortBarrel or 13th Colony. Cheers.

Nice review BB. You know I have not been a big rye guy, but you and others are trying to turn me into one! I got this ShortBarrel 12 Year Rye pick from Sean and Matt. It drinks well below its proof and is very good. 🥃

Yes this is better than both JD ryes. It’s the age here the JD just isn’t as old so can’t bring that oak to the table
Great video a place in tampa did a rye pick with them will have to try it. You need to try knib 10 rye. Did a blind with all rye knob 10, Belle Sib, wilderness trail Sib, and Bulliet 12 and knob crushed them. The bulliet was the most disappointing for me.
Pa hasn’t gotten the KC10 yet but yeah I’m definitely getting a bottle and will compare I really liked the bulleit 12 so that will be in the comparison for sure
Agree your KC10 rye sentiment. It is so damn good. Barely legal rye, for sure, but damn delicious.

Has anyone else come across this year any high age high proof mgp rye what other distilleries are putting it out?
Was hoping to get get one of these as I follow echoes and eternity, but was already way over my bourbon budget especially after we just moved into our first house this month. I had bought an ecbp b524, 4 roses Barrel strength, bulleit 12 and a sagamore Albariño (with the free fancy tie of course)
All the ones you got were great as well! This is an exceptional rye though

I’ve only seen some core offerings from Short Barrel. I haven’t paid them much attention. It seems their products are beginning to pick up some steam on UA-cam. Great review and comparisons today!
