I use the FE 28-70mm professionally. I have other lenses by sigma and I’ll tell you right now that unless you know what to look for the kits lens is beautiful. Has IBS, the photos are sharp for how cheap it is, and it’s light as a feather. Yeah, aperture is lackluster but can be made up for in post!
I had this lens in the past but sold it because I got the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8. I now rebought it for €100 because I’m tired of dragging along the heavy and big Tamron lens.
The Sony kit lens is quite sharp, much better than most other cheap kit lenses. Its main shortcoming is the lacklustre aperture, especially at 70mm. But it's small and lightweight and with image stabilisation too. So it's a decent offering for many applications, less so with low light.
I hold onto for OSS for when I am doing video work where I plan on shooting in 28mm for personal stuff., using it told me off untill I get the 24-105 which I am really excited for
This lens is underrated. It's sharp, has OSS, and the build quality is acceptable. Most importantly is the price. I got mine with my a7II for an extra CAD $200. At today's exchange rate, that's USD $145. Why would anyone NOT get this lens for that price? It's the best bargain and value for money you could ever get.
This is my go to lens for my APSC camera. Great for filming my son's soccer games, the zoom is just the right amount to capture game play across the field and action close up.

I got the Sony a7II with the kit lens, being on a budget it was convenient that it included a lens with the body, this being my first and still only mirrorless camera with interchangeable lens. I think it's a great starter lens with someone on a budget, I've sense gotten a Sony 20mm G Lens with 1.8 which takes much better photos, but that being said, the kit lens even got me some great astrophotography. What makes the sony “kit” lens relevant in 2024 (and why I’m watching this video) is the new versions of the a7C. Having a much lighter option to the other 24-70 or 28-75 zooms to pair with the lightweight a7Cs allows for a camera/lens combo that delivers on the concept of a really lightweight full frame package. I mean I am for sure a Sony fan boy so I am biased haha , but canon is just as good in all reality. If your are looking for wide, the sigma 14-24 f/2.8 is your best bang for its buck. Using the kit lens plus the addition of this lens, would cover a nice angle of focal length. That being said my travel photography kit is a Sony a7iv with a GMaster 24 prime, it’s my favorite because the quality is top tier, and the lens is very light. Makes it a perfect travel set up for me.
Changing to sony with this lens in mind seems utterly ridiculous to me. It`s the bottom of the barrel. Better buy a decent lens for your canon and save al lot, while getting a much better picture.
I actually like the Sony better. Looks more natural. The Sigma looks over-sharpened by comparison. In any case, I think the differences are insignificant for general photography (as compared to pixel peeping)
well I am buying this camera but the seller told me that they are out of stock the 28-60 and they told me that they have the 28-70 i am not sure if i should accept it
I`ve seen a few foto`s from this lens. I think it`s bad. It lacks color and contrast and has a very uneasy rendering that boosts noice. It has no place anymore in the lineup from sony because it doesn`t cut it anymore, if it ever did. I`m not even talking about corner sharpness and speed...........
Honestly that 24-105 is pretty nifty even tho it.s a f4. But personally I don't like how a 85 looks, 50 is my go to for what you're looking for (But again that's just personal preference)
One thng I noticed was The Sigma Lens about 3 inches futher away which mean that less focusing distance gave slightly sharper results than The Sony one - That is Obvious. Photo Snobbery for the sake of ones personal /marketing game does not influence My verdict If you cannot get sharp results with TheSony 28-70 FE then give up photography and take up knitting. I actually like the Sony better. Looks more natural. The Sigma looks over-sharpened by comparison. In any case, I think the differences are insignificant for general photography (as compared to pixel peeping)
I am actually working on a follow up to this video this week for next Friday. Doing landscape photography / nature photography.
well I am buying this camera but the
seller told me that they are out of stock
the 28-60 and they told me that they
have the 28-70 i am not sure if i should
accept it
Hey man, yea seems fishy to me, I have never heard of a 28-60 that seems weird
@@JosephValenti I believe the 28-60 was the kit lens that goes with the A7c! I heard it's not as good as the 28-70mm.
@@touayg1106 I never even knew there was a 28-60! Dang learned something today mate thanks!
Good review, agreed !!!
Glad you enjoyed it
I`ve seen a few foto`s from this lens. I think it`s bad.
It lacks color and contrast and has a very uneasy rendering that boosts noice.
It has no place anymore in the lineup from sony because it doesn`t cut it anymore, if it ever did.
I`m not even talking about corner sharpness and speed...........
I still keep it for like very ruggeded situtations
Does anyone know what the best lens for a zoomed in look, with the nice separation from the blur background/ cinematic? I was thinking 85mm
Honestly that 24-105 is pretty nifty even tho it.s a f4. But personally I don't like how a 85 looks, 50 is my go to for what you're looking for (But again that's just personal preference)
Sigma is sharper than sony obviously.
But I think sony kit is good enough for low budget weddings hahaha
Yea! Like sigma is better that’s easy to tell, it’s just the kit lens really isn’t as bad as people say haha
do you recommend this lens wedding photography or videos
One thng I noticed was The Sigma Lens about 3 inches futher away which mean that less focusing distance gave slightly sharper results than The Sony one - That is Obvious.
Photo Snobbery for the sake of ones personal /marketing game does not influence My verdict
If you cannot get sharp results with TheSony 28-70 FE then give up photography and take up knitting.
Lets be more frank where photography is I could kick yer arse The sony lens regardless of what other lens you are using.
Hell yea :p or even an iPhone at this point
To The Comment Section: So Does the quality of a picture come down to skill and talent over the gear? I’m trying to get my UA-cam and IG booming.
I would say 60% Gear 40% Skill for best results - but when first starting off it's probably more like 80% skill 20% gear
@@JosephValenti I’m tryna buy a camera and simply be done with everything having to buy one. I’m thinking the Sony A7iv but I don’t know what lenses I should buy.
well what's your budget? I am sure I can help you figure out a perfect starting set for you if you give me a budget to work with :)@@TheGardenGame
@@TheGardenGame Feel free to send me an email if you don't want to put your budget here: josephvalentico@gmail.com
I want to say 3k and less for the body; 1k and less for the lense so 4k in all@@JosephValenti
I'm going to be videoing and taking photos at, yep, child birth! I have to be at a distance a lot and just want to good one that can focus good enough from a distance.
My Sony won't have this with it. That makes me want to learn more about it before buying one. I juuuuuuuust might get another kind now. Hmmmm 🤔
Have you looked into any other lenses at the moment or still browsing ?
@@JosephValenti I'm still browsing but someone did say these are not really needed being the places are not THAT large you need that type lens for. I'd still like to get one, though.
@@mariannepetersen7537 what focal range are they suggesting , going wide?
I actually like the sony better for some weird reason.
Honestly sneakily good
$225 vs $979 I take Sony 28-70mm anytime!
In most situation I agree I think
Almost same... I think I prefer sony
oof honestly, coming back and re-watching the comparison I think it might be a bit more closer than I first expected
Sell me the lens lol
it's sooooo cheap pick that guy up on ebay my man
This is the worst comparison I've ever seen. You did'nt even used zoom!!!
Sorry friend I’ll get it better next time!
what a horrible lens to be used on full frame camera .
I really don’t think it’s horrible, I mean it’s a good starter lens if you have a used older gen camera that you gave to your kid or something
brother you need to learn more
@@neboise1377 I agree! We all should learn as much as we can no matter what
Such a bad comparison
I am sorry
