My husband passed away so now I am only one. I take any leftovers and pack them into the containers for freezer meals. This way if I don’t feel like cooking, I always have something that I could pull out.
Me,too
Plus you have a variety of prepared meals. I do not want the same thing every day!
First if all, as a widow, words can't express...I hope that it was a dance that you wouldn't have missed. 2nd, I agree with your freezer idea.

Great strategy! I’m sorry for your loss and wish you the best as you find your new normal.
Have A Peaceful Day Everyone ❤✌️
You, too!
Thanks,you all,too
Studies have shown that shoppers who use credit cards for their purchases spend 18% more per transaction...vs those paying with cash...
Truth ! That goes with anything , clothes, trinkets….
Spending with cash , you feel the money leave your hand. We do cash. 👍🏻
Wow
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom
I had heard up to 35% more. And that’s with people who could pay it off every month. I was one of those folks. As soon as we cut up the cards and paid with cash, I suddenly had more money to save ! Amazing how that works lol
@cjhoward409 another, and probably prime reason, casinos use chips vs cash betting.
Wow!!!! Great Food for thought for everyone ;0
I do pay attention to the number of ingredients. I don't want to buy items I rarely use.
Yes, Iam buying alot less snacks the past year, snacks are expensive now ;0
Yes they are!
I was sent a coupon each week to shop at one store. I don't live close to it. Each week they have offered me more off coupons. This week is $20 off of $40. I'm over there by this store today for a doctor appointment and I'm using my coupon on a meat special they are running for $2.98 ground beef. What a deal! It comes in one pound packages so it's easy to meal plan and less costly than having to repackage up meat.
😊 We use 1 lb to make 10 patties...use those patties...1 per casserole that feeds 4..get our protein with vegtables/egg whites...use yolks in a different receipe
I make a lot of soup at a time. I freeze the extra. Then on very busy days when I'm too tired to make a dinner, out comes the soup instead of fast food.
I do that with chili.
Great tip!
We are shopping from our pantry, fridge and freezers this whole month of April to save our budget for May, when all the grilling meats, bulk summer favorites go on sale as well as putting some away for the farmers market finds, we tend to get amazing deals on summer produce locally grown in bulk to can and preserve so, I am pinching every penny and finding so many good meal ideas at the bottom of my kitchen and garage freezer the last couple weeks that my husband is like, we should make this and that again but I can't remember what all I added into it 😅 a little of this and a leftover that. Used up my condiment packet stash too!
I am forcing myself to no longer stockpile like I used to. I now wait until supplies have run out completely before I renew. New experience for me! I once saw a quote to the effect that you don't know what your future self might want; so stockpiling isn't such a great idea if you were to change your diet for example.
This is one of the best videos you've made. I wrote down your nine practices. This is a fantastic guideline for saving money and decreasing/eliminating food waste. This guideline is just plain smart. Even though I might already do some of these sometimes, I plan to start doing all of these all of the time.
I especially love #6. Make 2 or 3 dinners to last all week, and if they run out, then I can try out that boxed tomato soup & crackers that look so good. But I need to eat up the perishables first before they go bad.
When they give counseling to engaged couples, this guideline should be included in the counseling. It's that good.
High school students should be mandated to take a practical home operating & finance class, and this guideline should be included in that class.
I can't get over how excellent, practical, reasonable, and easy these nine tips are. They could save a lot of marriages if practiced.
Thank you so much
Every country has a dish that allows you to use up leftovers. In New Orleans, we have Gumbo. The British have their "bubble and squeak". But the all-time champion is the Colombian Empanada. You can make them with leftover chicken, potatoes, rice, vegetables, sweet fruits, ham, cheese, etc....My wife keeps promising to use leftover Halloween candy, and I am not sure if she's joking or serious.
Oh yum candy! ❤
What exactly are we stockpiling for? Really!
There's a grocery store on every corner practically.
I don't expect the world to end tomorrow, and stores want you to stockpile! More money for them!
Buy what you need, that's it, plus a BIT for a Rainey day!
Love to all 💙
I buy items on sale and stockpile them for use the next 4-6 weeks. I don’t stockpile for Armageddon…except for coffee. I. Have. Coffee. If the End is several months from now, I have coffee to do until then. (And I’m constantly replenishing when it comes up on sale rotation !😁💜
I have stockpiled for some time. I only spend money on milk, bread, cheese, lunchmeat & taters. So far I have accumulated $3800.00 to be used when the freezer is empty. People stockpile to save $$ as costs are constantly rising. With the possibility of gas prices rising to $7 this summer, food will go up again.

Good point
😂 I am eating leftover soup from Dinner! (Soup is even from months ago, that I made and froze!) Keep it up Money M😅M! ❤
Love it!!
We need to start using what’s in the freezer
We started doing that in Jan! I just didn’t want things to get freezer burn and we have a large stand up freezer plus the little freezer attached to my refrigerator
I hear you
Brilliant
We just spent two weeks eating out of the freezer. Had to go! Spring food has to go in. I found enchiladas someone made for me and that made 3 meals!
Glad you are finding things that work for you. I will do a grocery pick up order if I don’t want to go into the store, don’t get things that aren’t on my list or only buy if it’s a good deal that I can add to my pantry or freezer. It’s a bit easier when you only cook for one as I meal prep and eat the same thing for lunch or dinner that week usually. 💕
Great idea!!
Under budget has to be my favorite two words!
Same here
I make soup and freeze part of it.Excellent quick meal, and no waste.
Sounds great!
I only shop 2 times a month. Usually in the first shopping trip, I buy pantry items or freezer foods, and the second trip is to get things of which we ran out. I have cut back on a lot of running around when I know that I have these 2 times to gather foods and supplies. I also noticed that I get a great deal of work around the property done because I am not planning trips to town. Thanks again for sharing.
Very smart
Your snack tip is a good one and also very true. I need to start using up what is sitting in my freezer!
I'm glad we don't have to pay sales tax on groceries in California.
What is the sales tax rate in states that do tax groceries? 🛒🛍 Sacramento, California USA 🇺🇸
I shop the adds and i shop marked down stuff. Then i do get items at other discount stores. I try to avoid paying full price for things.
Good job. Do you keep a list of menu ideas and rotate thru them ? I created a list recently and challenged myself to come up with 50 and I did it. 😊
Yes, I do that
Me too! I actually keep lists of ideas by ingredient. Crazy I know but it works for me. Many things to do with 🥦, and oats 😋😊💛
We only get what we need & things that are on a really good sale that can & will be used that week or frozen/pantry stable items that we will actually use. We don’t buy much prepared foods (unless you count a loaf of bread lol). We do buy snacks here & there but it’s definitely not as often, as well as USUALLY being mainly protein instead of just junk. I also hide some of the “goodies” from our son so that he doesn’t gobble them up in one sitting & can be used for the outings we go on with our homeschool groups & picnic with them. We stretch our shopping trips as long as we can.
Good for you Dawn, I'm working on cleaning out freezer
Hello Money Mom! ❤ I love your channel. It helps me to think more frugal. Thank you for your good work! 😊
You are so welcome!
We found an associated grocers store two towns over. They charge cost plus 10%. What an enlightening trip! It shows you just how much the markup is on some things at the regular grocery store nearby. After a few trips, we’ve gotten a feel for what’s a “bargain” there and since we enjoy a country drive when the weather is nice, we pack a picnic lunch, go to the park in that town and go to the grocery store to stock up on those items. Then we head back home. We make a “date” of it. 😊. BTW- some things aren’t cheaper there and sometimes we buy them anyway. 1-I don’t want that store to close and 2-it’s convenient to grab a few extra needed items and more pleasant than the W-mart Super Center. We’ve definitely scaled back on snack foods. But you know me… there’s always chocolate!!! Great topic!
That sounds wonderful
Hi money mom dawn I enjoy watching. Luv pa 🌻🌸🌷🌹🌼💫🌟✨
Hi my friend
Definitely helpful tips. I always need reminders. I need to buy less snacks and half less calories.
You got this!
Right on Dawn. I’m doing the same thing you are except I’ll freeze leftovers since I have a freezer. Then a few weeks later we can have dinner without having to cook.
Fantastic
You probably got some hints from Living on a dime; I got Tawra's cookbook and saw her substitution table! Good information about the baking mix!
Great channel
These are absolutely great reminders and yes they do bear repeating because we forget. I find that in a store if there are loud children, teens, or crying babies, I'm distracted and cant think. Don't get me wrong I love kids. It's just about me making a good financial decision when purchasing. What I do is leave the aisle and go far enough away I can't hear them. Of course it means taking longer to shop, But it's worth it to not overspend or forget what I went there for. If I find myself going all over the store, I just remind myself it's good exercise pushing the cart around and burning calories LOL.
Thank you dear lady
Btw, we would have fun shopping together
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom Yes we would! I would be a bad influence though. I love that Aldi finds aisle 🤣
I make a lot of soup and freeze the rest
Thanks ❤
You're welcome 😊
Love it. You actually made me think of a collab I would love to do with you, maybe in May. Maybe we can chat about it in a few days. We're going to see our little granddaughter this weekend. 🥰
Hurrah. I hope you have fun.
Dairy is about all that I buy in the store right now since I started going to the senior center. I get a free hot lunch 5 days a week, plus they collect items from the local stores to give out to us seniors. Today I got a bag of granny smith apples as well as some flour tortillas. Yesterday it was two bags of salad fixings and 2 ears of corn. The only downside was that I had to take a whole 5 pound bag of potatoes and apples which is a bit more than I need. I put half of them on to dehydrate. I also got a 1 pound bag of green beans. The center is turning out to be a real blessing since I had to pay $282 for a tire on Monday. Thank you Lord.
God is so good
Money Mom-I must say, this is one of the BEST videos you have done! Wow! I learned so much. Thank you!
Thank you
Thanks for the tips! One thing thats helped with snacks is getting nuts from the bulk section. 1/4 cup for snack is filling. Brazil nuts are my go-to these days, and sometimes with a tsp of nut butter.
Great idea
Thanks for sharing!!
Luv to see ur john wayne casserole finished
I just looked one on you tube
I’m doing ok i try to stick to just what I need I always have a back up one mayo when I open a new one etc.i have cut way back on process foods. Its going great 😀
Sounds great!
Here in Ontario, can not find baking mix either. Strange!
The was 1 small box for $9-10 ! Forget it!
Wow. So high
Could you show us the John Wayne recipe?!
There are many on You Tube. I did one of those recipes
I think the cash only will help me.
I heard 'add your remaining cottage cheese to egg salad to make it stretch'. (Learned on YT Pennies To Dollars channel from Bonita Bradley).
❤
Great idea!
Sometimes I make too much also. I have a 3-day rule so either we finish it in 3 days or I freeze it..
Smart
Always check clearance, I needed an item the other day and it was actually on clearance
❤ your tips. Will write them down.
Another good tip. im bringing a calculator, my husband just told me I make too much food and it just goes to waste. Im using these tips, groceries are going up every single month. thank you for the tip.
Thank you
Great ideals
Glad you like them!
Hi Dawn! I too do CASH for the grocery store. Before I leave for the store, I take out a certain amount of money that should cover my purchases. I do add a small "cushion" amount in case it's needed. When I get home, I replenish any monies that I haven't spent, back into the source from which they came...
Great idea!!
I look at the weekly ads to determine what I will shop for and cook; if the ads don't offer much I supplement what I have on hand with what I need. I do buy some snacks or dessert but only on sale and if in the budget. Or I make it, if time permits; even better. Focusing on decluttering and another big project so will be looking to make meals simpler while still being nutritious, affordable, and portable to transport to work.
Very smart
Excellent ideas!!!
Glad you like them!
❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤
I don't bring a calculator but I do bring the ol pen and paper (that my list is on). I round up, sometimes I am getting way more back than I figured, rarely do I go over and put things back. Thus last time it was 4 dollars, not a lot but not less.
Wonderful
Finally you get it
Thank you for your continued love and support
Any tips on getting your family on board with leftovers and the other items here?
I would ask them what they would enjoy eating
My husband does not like leftovers, grew up without leftovers. He will it a can of chicken noodle soup before leftovers. @@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom
Great video Dawn! ❤ Do you primarily shop at ALDIs or do you occasionally go to other stores also!? I love ALDI!
No Aldi in Canada 😢
I mostly shop at Aldi, but I also shop Kroger and Super Target
I did not know that
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom I love Aldi!!
Respectfully I disagree with part of your mindset regarding the" if there's soup left i aint making nothing else til its all finished" and same with snacks analogy you used. First off, unless I am/ was completely totally poverty stricken & i only had what i had to eat to survive, well ok. I agree. Matter of fact i grew up like that when we lived on a working farm as a child. . My budget is tight but im not eating one thing til its gone. I will freeze the leftover soup & eat next week or expand on the soup & make a totally different dish. Thers a difference between being Frugal & intentional and living in poverty mindset which will mentally wear you down & steal your joy!
Yes, we eat leftovers for lunch or turn them into a completely different meal. Rarely do we eat the same exact meal two nights in a row. There would be lots of grumbles from my family for sure!
I do not make a huge amount
Sometimes if I have leftovers and do t want to eat them the next day I'll make something g different then eat the leftovers on the 3rd day
