Emmy, use your ham bones to make white beans. Serve with cornbread and greens. Ham bones make the best beans.

They do indeed! But I "think" I recall in an older video, Emmy saying that neither she nor Paul were bean fans.

I make beans with a ham bone every time I have one. My issue is to get the smell out of my plastic freezer containers when they are empty. I use garlic and onion. I put vinegar in them after the first washing and put the lid back on for a day or two. Any other ideas? I may have to start using glass.

I bought a discounted bag of tomatoes at Krogers, red bag. They are always 99 cents and I never checked there until you reminded me! So far we have had them in salads and sandwiches and will do Tacoes next. No idea what type of tomatoes they are, certainly not Roma. When our Arkansas tomatoes are ripe in a few months they will be better but we enjoyed these so much. Carole

Tho this is not actual food but it is food related. I dropped into Walmart to pay my charge and right at the entrance of the store was a 1 day sale. It was a set of knives. I needed new knives in my kitchen. This set includes 3x essential kitchen knives (paring knife, utility knife, and santoku knife) with 3x protective sheaths and 2x safe non-slip flexible cutting mats. The knife blades are made from durable stainless steel with ergnomic handles for easy slicing and dicing.I looked up all the reviews on them that I could find, and most of them were very positive. I decided to buy them. The original price was 12.99 and I bought them for 3.00. That was a 9.00 savings.

You little home in SC is so beautiful. How sweet that it was your parents’ Ms. Emmy. That chowder you made looked so delicious! A good grocery deal (I thought) was 18 large eggs at Walmart for $3.82. I make all kinds of dinners w/eggs; fried rice, quiche, and of course breakfast for dinner. Have a blessed week.❤

I found a huge bag of bananas that were ripening fast for $1. I brought them home, sliced them and froze them in a single layer on cookie sheets. Once frozen, I put them in freezer bags. I use them for oatmeal, baking and smoothies. My dogs love them frozen for a refreshing treat.

We recently discovered a bakery outlet near us that offers wonderful brands of baked goods at a fraction of the original price. they even have a "free" cart each week. We have been visiting once a week, and trying out some new items such as Boboli pizza crusts, spinach tortilllas, and other sandwich bases that we would never buy at full expensive price. It is helping us with variety in our menu.

Our house painted all in same colours - white for ceilings, Dulux ivory lace on the walls. So much easier for touch ups and expense as one tub of paint does everything so no left over bits taking up,space etc. Colour is easily added from furnishing, decor etc.

The pro painter told me to go to home Depot and pick a color and buy the 5 gallon bucket of paint and use for all rooms in the house. When closing down for the day put roller in a plastic bag and put in the refrigerator. It will keep for a very long time. I kept in my second refrigerator in the basement. When ready for the next room to paint, I just got out of the refrigerator.

Hi Emmy and Paul, What a friend you have to think of sharing a quality ham for $2.07. I estimated the savings to be about $53.00 after
the cost of the ham. Just 2 weeks ago, our market had bags of little snack carrots for $ .25 per bag. I bought them for a friend whose
children like them in lunchboxes. Your example has made me more aware of the need to look carefully for special signs and price stickers
in several departments of the market. Thank you for sharing your good fortune with us. Blessings to you and yours, always.

We can save so much money if we just go longer between trips to the grocery store. And if we buy larger amounts and work them up and freeze them in meal-sized portions.
I live alone and seldom drink milk anymore. But i do cook and bake a lot with it and use it in my coffee and give the kitties a saucer occasionally! I buy 2 or 3 gallons of whole milk when it's one sale and freeze it in quart glass Mason jars. Be sure to leave a little room at the top for expansion. That way I have good supply of fresh, inexpensive milk and don't worry about it spoiling before i use it up. Glad you had a good week in your little house and paced yourself. 🎉

WOW! What a great deal on ham and what a blessing from your neighbors. I’m with you…the Foodsaver is a lifesaver and makes everything last much longer. One of my best investments in my kitchen. I love “food prep w/ Paul” and wow what a great job he did painting! I have to tell you, I haven’t bought bread or baked goods at the store in so long because I make sourdough too and I just bake my own muffins or things of that nature. So much better and cheaper than the store or a local bakery. Around where I live artisan sourdough loaves are like $8. It’s insane! 😂 I can make it for much much less and now I’m in a rhythm so prepping it is no big deal. If I still have bread left over the next week I gift the loaf I make that week to the org I do cooking for that feeds unhoused and food insecure neighbors. I’ve gotten so many compliments on the bread so I’ve made it a regular thing to bring a loaf every two weeks.

That is a lovely crockpot recipe, definitely comfort food. By the way in our cupboards upstairs and downstairs I made a template out of newspaper, then we bought thin linoleum/vinyl flooring (even off cuts will do) they don’t need to match ! We lined our cupboards and drawers with it. They are super easy to keep clean with hot water a a dash of dishwasher detergent, the pot drawer in the kitchen does not get a hammering either, because it is protected, your cottage is lovely.

Recently I found packages of red lentils marked down from $3 to 25 cents. I bought several bags and froze them. They are great in chili, soups and curries. One of my least favorite local grocery stores sent out coupons for $15 off $50. The prices at this particular store are always much higher than others nearby which is why I avoid it. However when they have meat on sale, it’s always a great price so I used the coupons I received to buy steak which is something we don’t usually buy because of the price. I filled our freezer (using the foodsaver) with several pounds of rib eye, sirloin and flank steak, definitely enough to get us through the summer grilling season.

Another great video Emmy and Paul. I can't share any great finds at the supermarket, but my vegetarian sister gave me her free ham she got at the supermarket. It doesn't expire until June and I don't have room for it in the freezer, so it's been sitting in my refrigerator. I LOVE the idea of slicing it into ham steaks. Why didn't I think of that. 😊 I can give a couple of slices to my son and my daughter and keep a couple for me. Thanks so much Paul for sharing your slicing skills. The soup looked delicious Emmy. I was thinking I might make it and add some chopped class for a delicious New England chowder. Bacon and cheese always make everything better.

I haven’t been this month to the grocery store. Luckily my son works at Wal Mart and he picks up milk, eggs, and my hot cocoa I put into my coffee. I’ve made dinners all this month with food in our freezer. Made hamburger buns, bread, biscuits. Nice feeling to save 300-400 on groceries. Sadly will have to do a big haul and stock up but it will be all new meats, frozen vegetables. So enjoy your channel, advise and encouragement.

Love seeing the improvement you made to the South Carolina house--it’s such a cute place!
Today I found a 12 ounce package of bacon at Kroger for $2.99 using their digital coupon. I also got a dozen Kroger eggs for $1.49 (digital coupon).
Your soup looked simple yet delicious AND nutritious.

Wow, that deal on the ham was next to "I got this for free" ... No great deals here. The corn chowder looked really good! My food saver is over 20 years old and it still works and I use it frequently. Especially for cheese, which I buy in big blocks and then cut it down into smaller pieces, so it can be used up before it does not taste fresh anymore.

This coming week in the Philadelphia area Shop Rite has ground beef on sale for $1.99 a pound, 5 pound limit, actually they have almost everything you need to make tacos/Taco salad on great offer for Cinco de Mayo. It doesn't start here until Thursday.
Wegmans had a great offer going before Easter on their young chickens, whole $.99 a pound. I stocked up, and sadly the prove has gone up

We are in KY. My Dad and I found pork tenderloin this week for the lowest price we've ever seen at Meijer. They also had rock bottom prices on potting soil. I love that Easter Lilly color. We have been using a color called Sand Dollar for the apartments my Dad maintains for so long now we are ready for a new color 😂.

Best deals on candy are usually after Easter. We got an unimaginable amount of good quality candies for the kids for under $10 at Target this year. I ration it and we only use a little bit every week for some desserts and we I think we'll be good until after Christmas. 😂

I took my ham bone and put it in the crock pot and covered it with water to make ham and green beans with potatoes! I will be taking the extra broth and canning it. It is great to have and be able to cook beans in (I know you and Paul aren't fans of beans) but also cooking green beans and leafy greens, and potato soup as well. Oh! And it freezes great!

I have two discounted hams in my freezer as well and freeze them exactly as you do with a container of what I call "Bits & Pieces" for soups etc. Those little bits make many meals. Also, one of my favorite quick meals is a pan fried ham steak with a baked sweet potatoe. It's yummy and fast.

10 pounds of chicken hind quarter for $.99 a pound. they were frozen so thawed, baked and took the meat off the bones, put in portion size bags. use the food saver also. will use for soups, sandwiches, and sometimes just the meat with mixed veggies. I did weigh the meat after cooked, was 8#. did not have time to make stock with bones and skin so froze for later.

Every Monday, our Community center gets the food from a local grocery store that is near the expiration date and puts it in the refrigerator for the taking. They also get lots of bread. Last week I got a package of Hoagie Rolls, for free, of course! I made homemade garlic toasts out of those free hoagies. After flash freezing them, the rolls now reside in a plastic bag in my freezer. I can take out one or two and toast them in my air fryer. also perfect for when my son shows up for dinner!

    A very frugal idea.
Save meat scraps, bones, skin, veggie scraps and make bone broth.
    Super cheap to make yourself.
At the stores, bone broth is insanely expensive.
Coffee grounds can be put in compost,if you didn't know.
    So can tea leaves.
Just not bones,or things like that
