Tip for those of you having trouble getting them to show up: If there's a camp or any npc activity like that in the area, it'll interfere with the spawning of the legendary animal and it won't spawn. Try to make sure there aren't any camps in the way when looking for them and reload the save until there's no activity in that area.
Floof Oof thank you. I spent hours on the Buck without a spawn. Stupid rival gang was camped out below the trapper. No clear long shots so I was killed several times. I gotta figure out that deadeye thingy. 🤠
@@shelbysolberg5825 That might be because where the picture of the elk is shown on the map isn't its actual location. It's not actually in the cumberland forest. You have to go to bacchus station and a tiny bit east/to the right and head up that little hilly area and feel it out a bit until you get a hit on it. It's strange, I know, and I'm pretty sure it's the only legendary animal where its doodle is wayyy off of where you actually start tracking it.

Tip for hunting White Bison: I had to set up camp and sleep until morning otherwise the hints never showed up for me. I don’t know if it helps for everyone but it helped for me :)
Easy, make sure you are always using scent cover and always stay downwind of your prey period in other words use Eagle Eye and it will show you what direction your scent is traveling. Then make sure to crouch down and move slow.

For some reason some of my legendaries won’t spawn when I go to the spot, it only happened for the elk and panther. I’m playing after completing the main game, is anyone else having this problem or just myself?
finally a helpful guide dammm, i just started playing this on my pc, had it on ps4 but never made it past like chapter 2 or 3, and the recently uploaded videos people post on the legendary animals are all 20 min long and 90% of the time they have the wrong locations for the animals anyways lmao

Matthew Ryan you only unlock the bull gator after beating the murfree country mission and it doesn’t have to be at night after hunted it in the afternoon
Little tip idk if its just me but i have a 100% moose location on the road going through the stream at the top of cattail pond (the small pond right next to the legondary ram) ive never heard of their being a 100% moose location anywhere so i dont know if i got a lucky clitch or if its their for everyone but doesnt hurt to go try happy hunting and if you need a more detailed description of where then let me know

I was in the epilogue, and I went to get the bison that was under blackwater, I looked at the map to see where it was but nothing happened. No notification that I was in the area, no clue that leads to its location, nothing. Is this a glitch or was it because of the part of the game I was in?

The quickest way to get this is just fast travel to the closest town and go to the on your horse and fast travel to saint Dennis to sell your stuff to the trapper and buy the trinkets

Correction about the legendary elk location. It doesn’t spawn where it says on the map, if you go to Bacchus station and head east to the hill across from there between 6pm and 6am, it should spawn around there. This a good quick location guide but too vague on their actual location.

The markers should show up when you're in the region and get close enough to where the hints/tracks are. You should get a little pop-up in the corner that says something like "you have entered legendary animal territory," and then some other stuff, then at that point the respective little sketch should show up on your map, and when you hunt one, will get crossed out. Nearly all of the legendary animals are available after the mission with hosea about the legendary bear at the start of chapter 2, aside from the select few that can only be unlocked in later chapters.

pelt is always perfect for legendary ones, so u might have killed the wrong one, The legendary ones are highligted with golden signs on the map instead of black once u kill em.
To get into Blackwater & Beyond with NO SNIPER or LAWMENin chapter2 - Take seriel killer Edmund Lowry on your horse (take another horse with you also) ... The way to do this is ..when doing the seriel killer mission,when you have him hogtied on your horse you're supposed to be taking him straight to the sherrif in Valentine... You don't have to, I went off hunting and fishing and messing about and then I thought "hmm, I wonder if I can cross to blackwater & beyond"... And it damn well works (15/4/2023 PS4)... I'm now in Blackwater, no sniper or lawmen on my back either, which is great 'cos I'm off to find me the legendary animals and fish im missing... Yeeeehaaaaaw!!!!

I've read before that you can't hunt the panther until you reach master hunter challenge #9, supposedly. But I'm not sure if that's correct

Edit: I just found the way to show the elk on the map you need to be further north just right of Bacchus Bridge
