- I tried my first Sri Lankan Crab Curry at the Riviera Resort in Batticaloa. That was after surviving two hours of kayaking in crocodile infested waters.
Crab curry is difficult to eat, so while I'm still a noob I thought it was best to get it delivered to my room. That way I could get messy without anyone (other than my UA-cam audience) witnessing it.
The room I stayed in at the Rivera Resort was an "eco cabin" - actually a converted shipping container, which sounds rough but was set up quite comfortably actually, and cheap at $27 a night.

small legs on crab you need to use mouth to suck the juice because they are soft not hard. always mix crab curry with the rice and put meat on it and eat.

Yes I feel like it needs a month to really explore Sri Lanka. It's slow to travel from place to place so it needs a lot of time.

I eat well crab with both hands. Even my Norwegian and other foreigner friends know from me, they just love spicy tamil food. It’s so tasty to bite them. I’m queen 😂. Tamil from 🇳🇴

Tip : Instead of eating straight from the rice bowl, serve as much rice as you want and crab with the curry on to your plate and eat it with your hands mixing it well with the curry and crab.Cheers!

Next time try the Crab curry with local bread from a shop. There’s a bread type called “Roast paan” (Roasted thin bread) some small mid range restaurants serve crab with this too... you just need to ask.
It’s the perfect combination and you can soak the bread in the flavoured thick gravy.

The crab curry was comedy gold 👏🦀 I never order anything with a shell or prawns with eyes and legs still attached anywhere in the world. Too much arsing about and you never know who's filming you. Thankfully, you filmed yourself doing exactly what I would do 😂 Actually, UA-cam is probably the perfect medium to learn how to eat such things. hahaha

Watching this episode after your bike ride (on shabby rental) to Batticaloa to view the lighthouse. Now it's all making sense. Glad you did not run into the resident croc's esp after dark. Lovely place, peaceful, friendly people. Your crab curry dining experience was the highlight of our evening. Sri Lanka appears to be a attractive destination for travellers looking for a unforgettable travel experience. Always travel/B safe D.

So cute watching you battling that crab curry. It's the kind of dish where instead of trying to get the meat out, you just crack it at the joints and suck out the meat, especially the legs.
Reminds me so much of my husband. I'm half thai so we eat a lot of thai food in my house, the first time i brought him meet my mum, she made a thai soup curry with king prawns. He was enjpying it so much and even though he didn't really know what they were he ate the whole thing, shell and everything! So at the end of the meal we all had the shells left to the sidd but he had none and we all laughed so much! Well he grew up in Blyth, near newcastle and he'd never seen prawns with the shells still on (he always says he didn't even know what pizza was until he left blyth 🤣). This reminded me of that time!

Omg, I laughed so much watching the crab entertainment :D Those legs, you gotta bite with your front teeth progressively (like Harald says) from one end to another, so that the meat comes out easily. You worked getting the meat from the crabs , hope it was a delicious meal ! Usually one would be given a seafood fork to twist around to get the meat out ! I agree , it would be a messy meal at a restaurant !

Try putting some curry to the rice and mix it using your fingertips and put some crab meat and make some rice balls or anyway you like the taste is sooo goooood believe me... try eating rice with dhal curry , soymeat , gotukola (its the sinhala name i dunno about the english word for it) and some malay pickle 😋😋😋

My wife and I ate Singaporean crab...but we were being hosted by a Singaporean friend, and it was our first time meeting his wife and kids at dinner. We wanted to get stuck in, but we were also trying to be neat and decent. 🤣 We looked a mess afterwards to be honest. Good idea eating it alone in your room 😂

I had a good laugh watching you eat that crab curry. I am assuming the plate you had the crab in, you were suppose to put the rice and crab in and eat from their.... I am from the Caribbean and usually the crab shells aren't that hard to eat as the crab shell is a bit tender. Usually when I eat curry crab and rice, I put everything into one plate, then have a little saucer to place the crab shell that I took off into. In my country persons do eat with their hands. So I think when you do it enough you do become pretty skilled. One day you will be a crab curry eating expert, I have faith in you.
That's got to be the best part of the video. Scotsman vs crab. Very entertaining. At one point I thought the crab was going to have you, never mind you having the crab.. Haha!

Dale, you're a brave man, survived doing kayaking with deadly crocodiles and then come back and managed to taste the crab curry in an extraordinary fashion, btw which was very entertaining as well.
