In contrast to the student sin previous classes, I really prefer using SPSS over doing these calculations in Excel. SPSS may not be quite as intuitive as Excel, but I like the outputs better in SPSS and I appreciate the very step-by-step nature of these videos in helping us understand how to do the statistics in SPSS.
I appreciate the detailed explanation of the research design and how to apply the statistic, your demonstration was very helpful to better understand the chi-square.
Wow! I never realized how much more complex SPSS was than Excel until this video. Chi squares in Excel are much easier in Excel. I guess having learned on SPSS I never noticed. This video was clear and easy to follow even with the more complex steps.

This video has more components to it than in Excel. It was not as easy to follow. I liked to bar graph and Dr Grande did a good job explaining how to use Chi Square. I will need to watch this again to grasp all the information.
This example of how to do Chi-Square in SPSS was helpful for me to see what I would be doing if my research proposal was sought out as a study. I appreciated learning more about how the test design works and looks.

Usually I don't have much to say about videos about SPSS because I have never used it, but this video showed me that using SPSS for chi square seems a lot more confusing than using Excel. I think this is the first time I have said that I think Excel was easier.
I chose this video because the CHI SQUARE was used to analyze data in a peer reviewed journal I am using as a reference for my research proposal. The video helped me to understand the concept a little better, but I am not fully confident that I know what I am doing.

I do not understand where to put what variable. In the video, Dr. Grande said it did not matter what variable was in columns or rows but is that always the case?

Immediately, SPSS looks way different from Excel in for running this test. Usually I can see some cross-over but I did not see much similarity. I'm learning a little more about Chi Square in that it can handle nominal data. Not surprisingly, I've never used the Crosstabs function. It would be helpful if the Chi Square test was a choice on its own without having to go deep into another analysis to get it, but that's just the nature of SPSS.

Coding the data numerically in SPSS now seems painfully redundant after seeing it accomplished in Excel in fewer steps. If we lived in a perfect world and all had access to SPSS, it would make much more sense as I learned how to compute Chi Square, along with other methods, in SPSS before I ever saw any of them carried out in Excel. I think a valuable tool for future cohorts would be the inclusion of SPSS and Excel software, although I'm not sure which course it could be integrated into the most seamlessly.

Hi Dr.Todd Grande I have two variables such as role conflict (Independent variable) and Marital Quality (dependent Variable with 10 items on likert scale from 1=strongly disagree to 5=strongly agree). Role conflict is loaded with eight items with five points as well ...The eight items of role conflict is indexed into one variable like (role conflict). And this indexed variable is tested with every item of marital quality...I run the chi square test with 95% confidence interval..In most cases it gives me a very high chi square/Pearson value like 89.321 and for some items 54.213 etc. ...I am confused why i am getting such higher values...Please guide me whether these values are coming under the recommended range?
Hi. I'm having difficulty with "expected counts". What to do if there are more than 20% of the expected counts are less than 5? In my case: 15 cells (53.6%) have expected count less than 5. The minimum expected count is .07. Thank you.

I find that SPSS seemed user friendly in some videos but the last few seem the opposite. Excel just seems so much easier. This video was difficult for me to follow. I know at a basic level that it is much like the video for Excel, just with more steps, but I had a difficult time with this one.
Based on what I understand about other designs, I can see the value of a statistic that allows for the use of nominal/categorical factors. But it seems that because you are using a less refined variable, that the power of the test would always be compromised.

There is a lot of information and a lot more steps on SPSS. Excel was a lot more simple, however, this program gives you more data to analyze.

I really have to practice entering data. I can't seem to get the frequency variable to work just yet.
