I don't mean to be snooty, but the correct name for this job is Materiel (Not Material) Management. I know its hardly different but it does have a different meaning than "Material." Material refers to a substance out of which something is made and Materiel refers to supplies or equipment used by an organization, especially a military unit. to put it as an example of both, part of the "Materials" needed to make a common sword would be steel. an example of Materiel would be a aircrtaft tires or wheels, o-rings, screws, nuts or bolts etc... P.S. I have 12 years of experience in Materiel Management. It can be a rewarding job and there are many opportunities for special duties around the department of defense that you can apply for if you kick butt!
Daniel, my oldest son is deciding between Materiel and Traffic management..with all your experience, which of the two would you say is more geared towards Amazon, UPS fed ex supervisor/manager civilian jobs after service? Not many vids really explaining these two..thank you
You should try to find a paralegal to bring on to your channel. My two top jobs would be photojournalism (you’re video covering that was very helpful) and paralegal! I’m super excited to start my journey with the US Air Force!
I love these videos! They’re so helpful! I still don’t have a job and I’m trying leave by August I’m getting nervous 😩 but your videos are super helpful! 💕
I wish i had known about material management when i was thinking about joining the airfore. I would of joined and went for that job and stayed in until they said i had to go. Lol....awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Have blessed life in the usaf.
Great and helpful videos..thank you..I have two sons possibly interested in the Airforce and this gives them something to hear aside from the recruiter..appreciate it!
Octavia says she thinks they're similar, just different items. Her average work hours are Monday-Friday 7:30a.m.-4:30p.m., although she says this can change depending on the base. Some of her coworkers work nights in addition to days, known as swing shifts, so it all depends.
Thank you so much SimoneakaBAB for taking time in explaining about Client Systems and Security+. I can't thank you enough. To Elora Jean, can you invite an Airman with Client Systems background to talk about Tech School and On the Job training please?
I am going for Client Systems. My question is for the guest. May I know what do you think about Client Systems Tech School (difficulty level), Security+ Exam and any suggestion how someone with no IT background can prepare beforehand (I have 2 months before BMT) to pass the tech school and Security+ exam successfully. Also, any specific reason why did you switch from Client Systems?
Hi noone, I should first note that there are 3 total school houses. The first one is kind of like IT 101 basics. I would say that I didn't have any IT experience before entering that tech school, but the first school house, if you study efficiently enough will lay a strong foundation for Client Systems. The second schoolhouse is AFSC specific and the third one is Security Plus. I highly recommend that you start studying for Security plus now, and maybe work with your recruiter to take it now. I have known few people that took Security plus before entering BMT and they only had to do the 2 school houses before graduating. Have it saved them a lot of stress and time and allowed them to focus more on learning their job. If you are a fast learner I definitely recommend trying to take it before BMT to alleviate any additional stress in tech school and allow you to focus on learning your job. Some books that I have know to work are any Gibson books and/or Sybex (Has a lighthouse on the bottom). As for your last question, I failed security plus 3 times. My command and I felt that because this was my second AFSC tech school to reclass me due to my good behavioral record. Being able to get reclassed twice rarely happens and i am extremely blessed to have had a strong group behind me pushing for the reclass because the other option would've have meant getting kicked out of the Air Force. Hope I answered all of your questions :) -Octavia
What if you already have a business management degree. I’m looking for doing knowledge operations management and supplies job as well. My mom did supplies in the army.
Everyone have CDCs! Octavia had four volumes, and I had six technically, only because my career field is merging photojournalism and broadcast journalism together and I had to take both (three and three).
So, I’m 33 and thought that I’d missed my chance to enlist, but turns out I haven’t! I’m hoping to enlist in the Air Force in two years or so, but have been researching like crazy. Do you know of anyone that has enlisted later in life?
I know a few people who enlisted later in life! You can definitely do it. The only thing you may not like (if you go Active Duty) is having to live in the dorms, since there isn't an age restriction. You may be able to argue that you've lived on your own before and are financially responsible, or even ghost if you really wanted to, but that's the biggest thing I could see you not being so happy about.
I was with a 36 year old in my flight during boot camp and he was a beast. Everyone in my flight were battlefield airmen (special forces candidates) including him so everyone in our flight were scoring in the 90s, but this dude got a 100 on all of his pt tests and scored the highest out of all of us even though he was the oldest one. We had another guy in our brother flight that was 33 years old. Both these guys were competing with each other and no one can keep up. Just make sure you train your body well before joining and you will make it.
Awsome! Swearing in next week😲😀 I'm32, married no kids but maybe in a couple yrs! I heard we just gotta train a lil harder b4 we head out to basic, (since most of us in our 30's snap, crackle and pop if we don't stretch out 1st lol)
My AFSC is operations management and leave April 30th. Do you know If it’s kind of the same as materiel management. Have been trying to find info on the job but haven’t had any luck.
I believe operations management is an umbrella field for things like materiel management, emergency management, etc. If I'm not mistaken, you don't really find out what you do until you go into tech school...but if you search the career in Reddit's Air Force thread, you can find out some more from people who actually are in that career.
I am a Contract Specialist at the same base as Elora Jean is. I can answer some of the questions you have about the job if you'd like. Just been in for 2 years but I will be honest with you, there still so much for me to learn. You need to learn a lot about the FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and be very good at paying attention to detail when it comes to this job. A very hard job to get into but once you get the hang off it the job doesn't get any easier, just gets easier to learn even more things about contracting.
I entered the DEP in the beginning of the year, around February, and I got my photojournalism contract in June. It doesn't take that long for everyone though, and plus I told my recruiter I wanted to wait a while until after summer
I couldn't tell you, because I'm unsure honestly, but a lot of the jobs in the Air Force have highs and lows when it comes to manning and I'm sure this is just the same.
I was an MFS(Material Facility Specialist)Supply Squadron in ‘83-87/Tech school was 4 weeks at Lowry AFB,Colorado..Great Job/Terrific hardworking people
I just saw your snapchat about getting eye surgery! I just got PRK this past Monday and recovery has been HELL. Are you getting lasik or PRK? Wishing you the best of luck! 💓 my snap is HaileynMabry, your videos have been so helpful because I’m joining the Air Force next June. You’re great 😊

OMG I recognized her right away!!!! I use to know Octavia back at New Venture Church here in Cali!!!! Heyyy love
I knew her too! Met at tech school when she was in her first AFSC
Cynthia Wow thats so awesome!
If you could find someone in Cyber Surety to talk about their job, that’d be great😉

a person trained in subsidiary legal matters but not fully qualified as a lawyer.
I just found out that was my job earlier this week. Was really disappointed but this made me feel a little better.
My daughter is interested in Logistics Plans so this was very interesting! Thank you for posting.
I love these videos! They’re so helpful! I still don’t have a job and I’m trying leave by August I’m getting nervous 😩 but your videos are super helpful! 💕
I'm so happy they're helpful to you! That's the whole reason I'm making all of these haha
Elora Jean update! I just got a call from my recruiter! Leave date is September 18! AHHH! I’m so excited and nervous! 😩
U should do more of these
I'm planning to!
I wish i had known about material management when i was thinking about joining the airfore. I would of joined and went for that job and stayed in until they said i had to go. Lol....awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Have blessed life in the usaf.
Where did they deploy you? Can you chose what base you want?
Graduated tech school now waiting on orders... cant wait to get to my base and figure this out!!
These videos are really neat! Please include some medical jobs if you can, specifically Physical Therapy would be GREAT! 👌🏼
Thanks! I'll try and find someone :)
I just swore in today and this was on my list and I couldn't find much on it. Really considering this or logisitics.
Great and helpful videos..thank you..I have two sons possibly interested in the Airforce and this gives them something to hear aside from the recruiter..appreciate it!
I loved this interview. It was so informative. Can you do logistics?
wowww definitely on the top of my list now 😍
Elora - I think you do great interviews!
Would you be so kind and see if anyone in Aerospace Medical would make a video with you? That’s the job I want to enlist with!😊
My job is Medical Material Management. Is that the same sort of thing? And what are the regular hours that you work?
Octavia says she thinks they're similar, just different items. Her average work hours are Monday-Friday 7:30a.m.-4:30p.m., although she says this can change depending on the base. Some of her coworkers work nights in addition to days, known as swing shifts, so it all depends.
Elora Jean thank you that is very good to know!
Lmao how do you manage to keep doing videos with people I know 😂😂😂 I went to tech school with Charleston at Keesler
The Air Force is a smalllll world haha
I knew her at Keesler too when she was ATC!
can you please do video explaining the differences between airforce reserve and active duty pros and cons
I'll have to try and find someone who knows about the reserves...because I don't know anything about it lol
I love your videos so much especially this one. Thank you
I wish I knew more about Knowledge Operations Management
Thank you so much SimoneakaBAB for taking time in explaining about Client Systems and Security+. I can't thank you enough. To Elora Jean, can you invite an Airman with Client Systems background to talk about Tech School and On the Job training please?
You are very welcome. I actually have friends here on base that are client systems that I can hopefully connect Elora with. Fingers crossed!
I love these types of videos ❤
Thank you!
How many hours is the shift for a typical work day?? My husband has this job now and will soon start Tech school

Can you do munitions systems
Great questions
I really enjoy your videos.
My questions for the both of you. Do you all have CDC's & if you do how many sets & volumes?
