Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Clear, concise, and detailed. I'm a retired police detective who owns a company that does a lot of video. We work with some pretty big clients. Mostly LTS/Hik stuff. We do Ubiquti for networks, so I just ordered a couple of cams for testing.
One quick point... The concept of using IR is less idea than most people think it is. If the lighting situation at night is such that even mid grade cams are having trouble, you don't need better cams. You need more light. Motion activated for residential, constant on for commercial. Plus, IR attracts insects. Spiders realize this and build webs on the cams. Between moths and flying insects, you get a ton of motion falses.
Anyone who thinks that there is value in getting clear video of a criminal working in the dark is kidding themselves. Your stuff will be sold for drug money long before the cops catch the guys. And you will be in court possibly a dozen times, likely losing more in lost wages than the thief got away with. Deterrence/prevention over good video any day. People who insist on great IR night performance need to fix their lighting!
I was able to pick up 3 G5s for my home and I’m excited. Thanks for helping me decide and keep my kids safe.
The G5 didn't handle the daylight test as well as the G4 in my opinion, it struggled with the sun but perhaps it's just me

I just have a question if something has improved with the microphone because I read that in the last update Unfi informed that they made corrections related to the sound in all cameras (G3, G4 and G5). Could you please check it and let me know if anything has changed. I'm asking because I'm wondering which series to buy to protect my home G4 or G5. Regards
I'm toying with the swapping my three G3 cameras around my house with G5s. The max operating temperature is a concern for me, as I live in central Arizona with 115+ days being a yearly delight.
The FOV on the G4 is wider than the G5, I was surprised by the difference in night vision performance between the two. I may need to pick up a few G5's to play around with.
Hello Scott, could you please expand your video to include night-time person detection? As you write and can see, the night image is surprisingly clean and bright, but at least for me, on my G5 bullet, I can hardly recognize myself in the image. It's blurry, and I look more like a ghost... a huge disappointment for me
During the day, the image is beautiful and at night it also looks nice, but the motion detection has problems in the dark and there is a lot of ghosting. The G4 bullet is much better in this regard, with a sharp and high-quality image. I already returned the G5 bullet The price is good and it's fine during the day, but at night it's weak and it's clear that they tried to save on something...it's a pity...hopefully some future updates will fix the problems. I would prefer to buy the G5 PRO, it's cheaper than the G4 PRO and can be ordered individually in EA, but after my experience with the G5 bullet, I'm afraid.
I would be interested in seeing the issue. I got a Unifi Camera a few years back with this issue. It was replaced under warranty due to a lense issue that they confirmed.
Question is your G5 mounted just under the overhang of the roof on a 2nd story? It looks like it is from the picture but wasn't sure. I am looking to install one of these on my 2nd story eave and was wondering how the night vision would be from this height.

Great video, thanks for sharing. It would be nice to know your thoughts on how the G5 compares with the G3 bullet in terms of the microphone. Does it have the same voice pickup as the G5 or is it worse?
I don’t have any g3s in my setup anymore but I would guess it performs better

If you want to stay UniFi I suppose this is alright. But the G5's performance is pretty disappointing. You cab get a camera that would be full color and a alot clearer for about $30 more.
I don't get why they can't make cameras with very large sensors but at sane resolutions. Like a 2k camera with a sensor the size of a postage stamp. That would look incredible at night.
Then you will be whining about costs. Those "large sensors" will not come free!
@@Official_Baba_yaga Why would I whine about costs? I whine about things like serving sizes decreasing to keep the prices low. Just give me the same serving and charge me more.
When they get to the quality of ankee cctv cameras I will consider switching to them
