ML loads onto the SD card only. it can't brick your camera. lol
It can brick if you installed 5d ML into eos m. Lol

Hi! I was really amazed to come across both of your $200 cine camera video and this one too. Do I need to ditch my Sony a5100 and buy Canon EOS M?
If I were you, definitely keep both cameras. If you have to pick on, I'd actually say keep the a5100. I love the EOS M and playing with the Magic Lantern hacks, but it is an old model and when using ML Raw settings, you later have to convert the footage you shot to mp4 or .mov before you can actually edit your film. But it's toally up to you and depends on what kind of video projects you want to do as well as how complicated your post-production workflow is. Hope this helps!

Thanks for a great overview! 2 questions:
1) how does it cope with overheating? Even natively, the M (along with its DSLR siblings) are reported to overheat quite easily. Having to work with even more pixels and RAW data, I'd assume even easier to overheat?
2) does ML enable you to record directly to log, or is it RAW only?

While I haven't dug into the ML capabilities of the camera yet, I don't find it gets excessively hot when filming - although it does depend on how long you're shooting for.. I recently filmed for about 10 mins straight and while the unit got pretty hot, most of the heat seemed to come from the display.. Most of my shooting isn't more than 1-3 mins straight so rarely an issue. I can't speak to the second question yet obvs

Absolutely love the eosm. Funnily enough I bought the eosm after watching your original video, it was either the Sony Nex5 or eosm and I went for the eosm, magic lantern and messing about with camera settings sold it for me. Are you using Dannes build? Just curious as you had issues with pink frames etc.

@@adamharig it depends on the mode. But Dannes is probably the best build. It's recommended you use sandisk extreme pro cards though.
Same here, wound up with 4 of them. Using U3 cards and dannes build. Running fine, all down to the card. Great forum on faceplate also eos m owners and the mlv app - awesome, like lightroom for video. Hats off the magic lantern developers. Way to go👍

I am confused to why everyone can use ML that well on this camera. I followed every step from zeeks tutorials and even the 1080 mode without raw or anything sucks so hard, I’d rather use the canon video mode.

I can’t manage to get a continuous recording without disabling the sound and for some reason my picture quality doesn’t even look half decent. I know it is my fault or my cameras fault.
I was just a little frustrated that I can’t get it working the way I want after investing countless hours into it.

Are you using MLV app? There’s some guys that have some good tutorials to make it look like Alexa footage. I’ll see if I can get a link for you

Sure, but I wouldn't recommend the built in mic for anything decent.
When I shoot I use an external mic, but I don't plug it into the body of the Canon - I record separately, use PluralEyes to sync the sound, then disable the audio from the footage

Nowadays with the latest ML build and a fast SD card you can record unlimited time pretty much. Especially in 1080p mode.

Hmmm kinda worth for the price but isn’t the files too heavy to save them in a SD card? I mean, how many time can you film on your SD?
And why you would film in 14 bit Raw and then transcode into Prores losing information. What’s the point to buy this camera then??

Just the M model, there is a M2 which is the newer model. Make sure you look for the M model not M10 or M2.
