As an adult reader, I like the more hard hitting YA like Autoboyography, Forbidden, and Female of the Species. I don't reread but Forbidden was read twice and it completely wrecked me each time. So glad you included it.
I love Fangirl and Perks too! I recently read Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett and loved it. The main character reminded me of Cath a little bc she's got anxiety when things don't go according to plan.
I would recommend letters to the lost and more than we can tell by Brigid kemmerer. You don't have to read them in order but more than we can tell is basically the sequel.

I discovered this little known coming-of-age, fantasy series recently called Harry Potter. If you haven't heard of them then I suggest you check them out, they're pretty good. 👍
I loved Forbidden too and We Are the Ants. Boy's Don't Cry is probably my fave ya contemp novel, which follows two brothers, one who has to become a single teen father and his brother who actually reminds me a little of what Henry went through minus Aliens. Others would be When we Collided (summer romance with mental health), Let's get Lost (loss of a mother), Scarred (loss of parents), Heartbeat (loss of mother) and Gone, Gone, Gone (romance set during the DC sniper attacks with mental health) Kind of have a theme I guess.

Definitely recomend What if It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera It's about these two boys, Arthur and Ben. Arthur is only in New York for the summer for his mom's job and has a huge love for everything Broadway that has him believing the universe can give him a showstopping romance. Ben doesn't quite agree, if the universe had his back he wouldn't be carrying a box to the post office with his ex boyfriend's things. This book is definitely in my top 10 it is so amazing and the writing is incredible.
All the books you mentioned I've either read or still want to read so this was a greaaat reminder for me to just go read them and now I want to re-read the others too. Btw I think you'll like We were liars by E. Lockhart, it was one of the first YA books that I've read that really touched me (& made me cry)
Yesss! Finally someone who's not a 'Harry Potter' girl. Like I'm not hating or anything, but Harry Potter is just not for me. I do love the books and movies, but I have other books that I like more.
I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson is a very solid ya contempo. It follows Jude and Noah who are siblings that are trying to get back together after a tragic past. The first thing I love about this book is its alternating POV and it also jumps between their 17 and 13 year old selves.
I have read the hate you give so many times it is heartbreaking and I cried it was so sad and the movie pictured it so well with the bright happy colorful in garden heights and the cold colors at her school were she feels like she can’t be herself i thank my brother everyday for getting me that book
I finally read fangirl and I was really surprised! In a good way 😂 I am drifting away from YA contemporaries as I am nearly 35 , so can’t relate 😝. But I really enjoyed fangirl!
Autoboyography was honestly THE BEST book ive ever read without a doubt. i never really read, but the story was about lgbt so i thought id try it and i honestly couldnt put it down! to anyone seeing this comment, i massively suggest reading it!
If you can find it written in English. Read too true to be good ( te waar om mooi te zijn) by roxane Wellens. It is about a boy named Othello and his sister recently committed suicide and she writes all these letters to him. He wants to know what freedom is ( the freedom his sister couldn’t find) so he goes to switzerland to the place where Minthe ( sister) died. According with that he falls in love with a guy and has some weird stuff with a girl going on at home. It has a poetic touch with a lot of tiny messages and quotes from Whitman and other famous authors. I cried at the end. So if you love poetic books that go deep into the thoughts of someone definetely read!
I really want to read Autobiography. Unlike We Are The Ants, which I lowkey disliked due to some...writing factors (IDK), I couldn't get passed a few chapters of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Universe. And the writing was written for you to fly through it. It really didn't do it for me. Idk why. Simon vs the Homosapiens is one of my ALL time favorite books, and I think....my favorite (romance) contemporary! Just realized that.
I agree on We Are the Ants. Very repetitive, conflict is often inexcusable, never explains the scifi elements (the aliens). I think connecting to it allows some to overlook the flaws (which is great if it can help you/have a pick-me-up), but it's a pretty poorly constructed book.

Bullying was written of as, it happens, it's bad, but there will be no consequences BECAUSE! Hated that. It was still an okay read, though.

Download an app called Anybooks. You can read whilst looking for the hard copy. Best app ever. You can even read offline. Here in Zimbabwe we don't have access to hard copies that much but i never stop reading
