The Accessibility Menu on your iPhone is a bit of a hidden gem, not so much that it's hidden on the phone, just that people assume it's not for most people, and don't bother checking it out. I think this is a huge mistake, as there are tools in here that can help almost anyone, so in this video, I'll show you the 10 most useful Accessibility tools on the iPhone.

Thanks for this channel. I also use Voiceover, as I'm blind. One can quickly activate and deactivate it using Siri. Just say "Hey Siri, turn Voiceover on." Of course, the same phrase with off turns it off.

Also a VoiceOver user and blind since birth. I marvel at the amount of voices and dialects available to us, especially with iOS 16 and the addition of Eloquence and many others.
Wow! didn’t about this I’m legally blind, one good eye left and it failing fast, Will now use this features.
Must be nice on battery life to not have to turn on your screen at all
You have one of the best teaching styles for these sophisticated devices. The number of features can be overwhelming and confusing…for some. Many of us are aging or have elderly family members who have an iPhone. Would you consider a more compact video aimed at the elderly with features limited to ones they would need like magnification, sound alerts, etc? Elderly issues revolve around health, hearing, vision and alerts. 👍
I second his remark. Years ago, an elderly woman at a library, seeing I was using a Mac laptop, asked me if I'd help her with her Mac laptop. She had a problem reading normal-sized text. I did the best I could to explain how, but I found it complicated for me to understand, much less someone with numerous health issues.
As a result I had an interesting exchange with the Accessibility team at Apple. Their desire to help was obvious and it was also obvious that Apple was giving them the funding they need. The issue, I explained to them, was that many of these features were aimed at _highly capable_ people with mobility issues. Those were people who, using those features, could outwork ordinary people.
But those same features, buried deep in an accessibility menu, could be hard for others to use. A explanation by you would help, perhaps aimed at family or friends. You are very good at explaining. It might also be helpful to develop a series of Shortcuts, perhaps driven by Siri, that could activate these features, something along the lines of "Hey, Siri, enlarge the text."

Wow! Thank you for the amazing tips! I use voiceover myself from my iPhone, because I can’t see anything on my phone. Voiceover is my best friend! I am glad you’re not the only one mentioning voiceover accessibility.

Hello. There's always something useful in the videos you post, even if indirectly. In this case I found a usefulness in assistive touch. Being the owner of an iPhone SE, instead of pressing the home button twice to invoke the task switcher, I set one press of the assistive touch button for that, two presses and long press for other operations that are useful to me. Thank you! Keep up the good work.

I’ve been a Apple fan since my Macintosh 128 in the mid 1980’s - but I’ve learned so much from your videos which I’ve been binge watching since I discovered you earlier this week. I left a comment on another of your videos a few days ago asking if it was possible to make a transcript. What a dummy I am, you’ve already got transcripts. Maybe you need a video explaining how to get the most out of UA-cam? I’d also love a video exploring the Photos app. Thank you so much for what you do!

Love the videos. Always something new even if it’s not something I’m likely to use.
I am visually impaired (partial sight), and have my phone set up pretty much as I need it. But I have a couple of suggestions.
Under accessibility, then display and text size:
I have recommended turning on bold text to a number of people, not all of them with any sight impairment. Quite a few older people find their phone easier to read with this feature on.
I also have large text turned on. This means the text in many apps is that little bit bigger and sometimes I don’t even need to zoom it.
With zoom, I have full screen enabled. I don’t like just having a small magnifying window on my screen. I use the three finger double tap to zoom the entire screen and then use those three fingers to drag the screen around to see the piece that I want to look at. For someone with very limited sight this can be more useful than having the screen divided into a magnified part and a non-magnified part. But I agree that it does make typing difficult.
It seems that the follow typing option is turned off when full screen is enabled. More investigation required on my part I think.
It takes practice, but you can use three finger double tap drag to change the amount that the screen is zoomed. I find this more convenient than having a controller on the screen.
When typing I use speech to text a lot. But then need to zoom in to scroll around my text to make sure that there are no disasters.
A suggestion when you need to type a lot of text into a small box that only shows a few lines. Quite often I type the text into a note and then copy/paste it into the text box.
I really enjoy your tips and tricks for iPhone. I have learned new options and used many of them.

Great video. I knew of many of the Accessibility features after losing some of my vision a few years ago. But I learned about more thanks to you. For example, the floating button for Assistive Touch is on my smaller, new iPad. No idea it could do all of the things. It was just there and I never explored it. So thanks! 😊

I have multiple disabilities which complicates my tech needs -- crooked, weak hands, can't reach my head (for headphones or ear buds), and now what vision I've had is quickly getting worse.
I don't really like iPhone for multiple reasons, but I'm finding if I want to be able to use a smart phone I'm going to have to switch. Best as I can tell, iPhone has THE BEST accessibility services including their hotline. I'm 63, so it's going to be a difficult adjustment - I'm very glad I found your videos. 👍👍😎
I turned on the VoiceOver option on my Apple Watch and that was interesting to play with and learn.
Yes, I did have issues turning it off when I wanted to. It also ate my battery as well--because I was fiddling around with it so much in a short period of time. Later on, I had to reboot the watch because the battery ran down to 10% in half a day several times. That fixed whatever confusion I had caused in the watch.

Great video mate… I would recommend checking out voice control which is invaluable for people who have difficulty with fine motor control and hand control (as well as people who want to cook without wanting to swipe the screen with dirty fingers!) … recent updates include the ability to hang up the phone, which means that pretty much everything (except using Apple Pay) is now accessible on iOS, iPadOS and Mac OS with a persons speech! :)

Back tap for screen shots has been invaluable since I got my XS. After saying that, I’ve just changed it to 3 taps (thank you!), cos I kept taking accidental screen shots when it was set to 2.

After experimenting I use double tap to activate the App Switcher. It revolutionized the way I use my iPhone; I can go from one app to another almost without thinking. The key is to develop the necessary muscle memory; it’s a matter of getting the timing right. I found the if I spoke the phrase “tap tap” as I tapped the back of the iPhone I could hit the right cadence: not “taptap” or “tap. tap.” For the first week I spoke the phrase out loud as I tapped, the second week I sub-vocalized the phrase and by the third week I had the muscle memory down solid. Now it’s almost an unconscious act and switching from app to app feels more like a mental command than a physical act. I use triple tap for Smart Invert where text is difficult to read.

Thank you for this information. I have an elderly mother that a lot of these would be great for...especially the sound recognition (she never hears the doorbell). Will have to check to see if any of these are also available on the iPad I got her (she has an Android phone unfortunately).
Back tap, I just found works with iPhone13 Pro Max and an "Iron Clad" case if you tap on the camera cover. Works great.

I have my “Magnifier” turned on from the Accessibility function shortcut of 3 pushes of the side button
This was advised by a sight impaired person
I moved from android to Apple (iPad and iPhone13 Pro Max) purely based on several demos of the VoiceOver function plus the incomparable quality of the screens on Apple devices.
I have macula degeneration which means the central vision, the high acuity high definition ‘pixels,’ in my retina have gone West.
VoiceOver has been a must for me, maintaining a degree of self reliance.
Having said that, I still struggle with iOS and I’m not fully happy with it in relation to android which I’ve used for many years.
Because of this, I’m more used to Google apps and have installed many Google apps on the iOS devices I have. Unfortunately, a lot of the apps are chopped or cut down versions of the full android app. I Dessay this works in the opposite direction as well for those moving from iOS to Google or android but it would be nice to think that apps between systems would be fully functional on either system..

Like the tips.. the speak” option is now favorite.
But... it is hard to follow your taps... since you don’t highlight where the tapping is going ..or arrow or so... have to pause and stare at the screen to find out how to do them
I’ve set BackTap under the Touch setting to bring up the Assistive Touch button with a double tap on the back of the phone, so I can bring it up and close it as and when I need it. Just means you don’t have to have it on the screen all the time.
My favorite feature is zoom, but not for zooming. Turn on the accessability shortcut, so you can triple click the home button to turn it on. Turn on zoom, and make sure full screen zoom is turned on,Oand set the filter to low light. Once it's on, triple tap with three fingers, then turn the zoom slider all the way down. Now turning it on dims the display, and you can make your screen darker than default
I got a bit lost in your process, however there may be a slightly easier and faster way to do this-go to accessibility use dessert function to look for smart invert. Tapping this will make it possible for your screen to be dark. This does not affect videos, but it does make it much more comfortable in looking at the screen for long periods of time. You might want to consider trying this.
@@chrisfitzchrisfitz5182 it's not dark mode. It dims your display, but more dim that it can by default. Some people do this using reduce white point as well, but reduce white point causes a slight shift in colours last I checked.
The guided access is really handy. Specially for kids, or when you don’t want your screen to turn off.
But instead of typing in ur password to exit guided access, just double tap the power button & it will use Face ID.

Double and triple tap works with my otter box case. Not 100% of the time, occasionally I need to repeat the tap.

My goto settings are assistive touch, reachability and back tap.
I don't have an iPhone (yet) and don't need accessibility options, but damn your videos are good lol. Really well presented and it feels like not a second is wasted. Really helpful for me to get to know current iOS features, phone reviews are just useless for that.
Thanks for this information. I have a question for you and the community. Sorry if this the wrong place for a question. I have two Bluetooth devices active when I'm in my car, my air-pods & my car audio. When I receive a call, I don't want to have to play with the phone to make it use my air-pods, cause that distracts me from driving. There ought to be a way to set a preference so that iPhone uses the air-pods when a call is active or being received. When I'm using a audio app, it can use the car audio. Is that possible or am I doomed to always fiddle with the screen while driving?

One thing was hoping you would have cover is "hot corners". Love to have that feature but can NOT make it work. Followed all the video instructions I have found but no luck. Same issue on my ipad as well as iphone(13). Am obviously missing something. Guess need to make a trip to the Apple store. Have any ideas? Thx.

I have added the double back tap to shut the iphone (not power down). I do this to less function the power button, as other phones I have had they become an issue as they age by wearing out. I have used on Android phones a soft button on the screen to achieve the same function, but have not seen anything for iphone to do this.

Do you have any idea why when VoiceOver is on watching streams from BBC iPlayer or ITV? X a white square appears on the screen it creates a border around a 1/3 of the screen 😕

Well, if you use voiceover, you could double tap with two fingers to pause, or stop the music. But also works with hanging up calls if you are using voiceover.
