    Great video! While following along with your video on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I made a discovery that pleased me. I just happened to be aiming the camera at a sheet of paper that had writing on it, and a little icon appeared in the lower right of the screen. When I tapped it to see what happened, it captured the writing and gave me options to copy, select, look up, translate, or share what was written. I was especially excited about the translate option.

    I think your iPhone content and topics are the best and your delivery is top notch. I look forward to every new tutorial.
    Two additional tips about using Panorama mode that you could have mentioned:
    1. When shooting a pano and want to end it simply reverse the direction you are moving the camera and it will end the shot instead of trying to hit the button to stop it.
    2. If you want to start your pano in the opposite direction tap the pano preview screen before hitting record and it will reverse the direction.

    It would be nice if Apple could add manual focus functionality (something like exposure slider), in macro shots it is often really hard to get a proper focus, esp. when doing photos of small objects hanging in the air (like some small flower on a tree branch, spider hanging on a web etc.).

    Tom - another excellent tutorial. A few comments: Live Photo - hate it! Regarding the Preserve Settings - I have found that the changes you make here don't necessarily occur immediately. It seems to take awhile sometimes for your choice to be put into effect. Also, the Live Photo switch in Preserve Settings seems to function opposite of what the other controls do - the default is for the Camera app to always turn Live Photos ON, so if you don't want it to do that (see my previous comment about hate it!), you have to turn this switch on, then, when you set Live Photos to Off in the camera controls, it should stay off for future sessions. Next, there's a caveat to using the "slide shutter button to the right to take a video" - if you do this, the video taken will only be at 1080p resolution, so if your intent was to take a 4K video, you're better off just switching to Video mode in the first place. And finally, one tip that I find useful is that in Video mode, you can change the resolution and frame rate by tapping in the upper right hand corner of the screen where the settings are displayed (this may only apply to newer phones?).

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment, and I agree with you in general about Live Photo, other than the long exposure mode, I really like that. But yes, beyond that, I get cross when I think I’ve taken a regular photo only to find out it’s a Live pic.

    • @artfartzy
      @artfartzy 2 роки тому

      Hi can I ask you about something, the preserve settings does it work for you like it should ? Mine doesnt reset to default when I change something in the camera app, like if I adjust the settings for exposure and then close/reopen the camera, it opens up just how I left it, same if I go to video and then next time I open the camera it still stands on video instead og going back to photo mode as default. So I have to change everything back manually to default before I close the app, very annoying. And I dont have any of them enabled under preserve settings (except for live photos) so it's not cause of that.

Also funny in loop with some audio added. Plus it’s always on quasi burst, grabbing a preferred key image( not full res)after the fact.

      @withdirtybags 2 роки тому

      I try to start my outdoor panos pointed at the bright side of the pano, selected left or right as you mention, this will create a pano that isn’t blown out on the bright half, this will create an image that is a bit underexposed on the dark half of the pano, but in edit in photos app underexposed can be rescued, overexposed not so much.

Many people aren’t phone savvy, that’s why we are here! I know you can rewind, but just a smidge slower would help. You have to cater for everyone that’s true but remember us older ones!!! Hi Helena. Thanks for the feedback, it's appreciated. Unfortunately, for every person telling me to slow down, I get 2 comments telling me that I'm going too slowly and to speed up. As you can imagine, making videos that appeal to everyone and all skills levels is impossible, so I do try and strike a happy balance. In your case, it might be worth using the UA-cam speed control to watch the videos a bit slower. It will probably make me sound weird, but it would at least allow you to keep up with the pace a little.

      Hi Robert. I'm sorry you feel that way. I would define 'clickbait', as promising something, then not delivering. I always try to ensure that my videos provide as much value as is possible. The thumbs and titles do of course have to be tailored to stand out from the crowd, otherwise the videos would not get views, but I try my best to ensure that every video massively delivers in terms of information, and that I never promise something in a title or thumb that is simply not true, or not delivered in the actual video. I don’t have crosshairs 🤔

  • @gaijininja
    @gaijininja Рік тому +1

    Something that annoys me with the camera settings is the ability to set the exposure length ONLY when the background light level is determined by the OS to be “Night”. Setting the aperture to the smallest, while maxing out the exposure is the best way to make awesome silhouettes of foreground features/people at sunset/sunrise, but as soon as there is enough light, the camera switches to “Day” mode, and won’t allow long exposure times. I know, it helps to preserve the sensors, but it’s pointless, as you can max the exposure level in day mode, seriously over exposing the image.

    10:52 Tip #11
    You don't have to keep panning until the iPhone says that the panorama is done. You could press the stop button... _(and here is the tip)_ pan backwards when you think you are done capturing the panoramic photo. This will stop capturing the panorama.

    • @justgivemethetruth
      @justgivemethetruth Рік тому +1

      You seem to know a lot about panorama mode. I have an iPhone7pro that every time I try to use that panorama feature will to end the photo before I pan all the way back to the starting point leaving all my panorama photos incomplete. Am I doing something wrong?

    • @EdwinvandenAkker
      @EdwinvandenAkker Рік тому

      @@justgivemethetruth I only use the panoramic features once in a while.
      When you activate the pan-mode on your camera there will be a long horizontal bar with a rectangle in it. But I’m sure you get the basic concept of that mode.
      *Direction*
      The pan-mode usually starts left and you will have to pan right after hitting the capture button (trigger)
      But if you press the rectangle, you can change the direction of the pan-mode.
      *Stop* _method 1_
      When you start a panorama you slowly pan your camera to the direction the arrow points at. Do not stop or pan the other way.
      You hit the trigger again, and the capture stops.
      *Stop* _method 2_
      Start capturing as I described in method 1. But instead of hitting the trigger to stop, pan in the opposite direction.
      So, in case you start in pan-to-right mode, start panning to the right. When you think you have captured everything you need in your frame, start panning to the left until you see that the capture stops. That opposite pan can be a little bit faster.
      *Fun trick*
      Have someone stand on one side of the frame and start capturing the panorama. Once the person is out of the capturing rectangle, let the person run behind the camera to the other side of the frame. Try panning very slowly while the person is moving.
      You might have to play with this a couple of times. But, this way, you can have one person in one picture without the use of photoshop

      @@popcornmike7 I watch UA-cam in the Safari browser on a mac, which allows me to:
      a) speed up or slow down a video (click on gear icon) - x0.75 slows fast speech enough for me, without making the presenter sound drunk

      c) show transcript - need to have captions on, and I don't think every video has them (Proper Honest Tech does), click on ... icon under the video. The camera on the iPhone 13 pro is the worst camera I have ever used. I switched to it from Samsung Note 10 because the camera is supposedly good and have seriously regretted it. The Note 10 just blows it away. The photos are look like watercolour paintings, not photos and are blurred with blown out highlights.
