    For Short Films: Invest in 3-channel recorder (Boom + 2 lavs), or save up and get something with more options? Alternatively, at what point is it better to buy instead of rent gear?

    Never a miss! Q: Can having a bad or very old xlr cable introduce noise or artifacts when recording audio?

    • @ootaviooo
      @ootaviooo 8 місяців тому

      Absolutely! When I bought a chinese shotgun mic, the XLR cable in the box was simply terrible! Then I bought a more portentous cable and all the noise was gone! It wasn't expensive at all, but it was so much better!

    To cut or not to cut. Some mics have a low cut filter on them. In general is it good practice to enable it on the mic, on the recorder, or wait for post processing?

    When doing a podcast, is it better to have the mics farther apart, but pointing at each other (like coming from the outside of 2 people sitting side by side) or closer together but facing away from each other (like the mics coming from in-between the two people)?

    Thanks for this; 'wide and tight' two camera shoots are always so painful no matter how much pre-production effort is put into it. Question for next time: In shooting the traditional series of shots for a scene (the wide, then medium, then close-ups); do you tend to keep the boom mic the same distance from the actor as say the medium, or do you come in close for the close up and risk getting the proximity effect? Thanks as always!

    How do you preserve the same ambient of the dialogue recordings in every single take ? I mean, when you have 5 different shots, how to keep the noise floor and the ambient behind the dialogue persistent ? Any tips on how to make it stable ? I' ve been doing post production of some film that I had also done recordings on set, and matching the noisefloor/ambients/roomtones was hella of a pain in the ass haha

    Q: How can you prevent sibilant noise in recording so you don't need to fight it later with a de-esser plugin?

    • @zachary5049
      @zachary5049 7 місяців тому

      I would just shift a microphone a little bit to the side. For example, when the talent is speaking directly to the membrane, they might have very strong sibilants. Shifting a microphone to the right/left for about 15-30 degrees would probably do better ! At first it might look weird, that they are not speaking directly into the membrane, but believe me, It works ! Also, u can try recrordikg them for a longer distance. Some people in studio tend to speak very close to the microphone (touch the microphone, or approx 5cm). I always ask them to take a step back, and record them approx 20cm from the mic\
