He was also in the Kennedy Center's production of The Who's Tommy at one point, pre-covid, but that was a regional production, not a Broadway production.

Once you've rented the rights, you're paying for a specific version of the script and score, meaning too many changes (to text, not counting performance) can be seen as violating copyright by misrepresenting the work. That's why schools have to wait 9 years after a show hits Broadway to pick it up. Also... they might just not establish performance rights if a show is profitable enough to keep running forever.

I think they had use the “high school “ version for all the kids who watch and it makes sense that the actors are playing highschoolers doing a high school play.

It doesn’t work. Yes Madeline sounds good but she is singing in her head voice which is usually quieter then her chest voice, unless she’s mixing but this doesn’t sound like she’s mixing. They increased the volume giving it all the sound but without the power.
