With the Autobots banished from Earth, the Decepticons are free to do as they desire. Megatron betrays Shawn Berger and imprisons him along with Spike, Sparkplug, Chip, and the mayor of Central City. Meanwhile, the Autobots struggle to escape from their predicament and return to Earth to save it from the Decepticons.

Well seeing what happened at 18:15 maybe it’s for the best that the humans didn’t get involved.

This episode to me is a great way to show how the masses can be influenced by the media, and this was before social media.
What's odd is that Prime didn't bring the Dinobots out of storage for the rematch at the end. They would have stomped the Decepticons flat.
Just not in the episode due to how many characters were already present.

I like how Megatron, instead of trying to destroy the autobot himself, he goes to the legal system to manipulate the humans, and fools them long enough until the autobot (should be) nothing but ash, and molten metal.

The most amazing thing Megatron did was to change the US legal system so that a random mayor can make prosecutorial decisions and the US president acts as the presiding judge at the trial.
@@bluemarlin8138 The judge was just a judge, not the U.S president but either way, the judge was an idiot who clearly hated teenagers and caved into public pressure by not giving them time to obtain the vital evidence they needed to prove the Autobots' innocence.

I was fortunate to find this show on Netflix 10 or so years ago. This arc taught me at a young age not to trust everything's I heard on the media and to consider all sides of an argument before basing an opinion. A skillset we should be teaching our children today.
Unfortunately, schools are indoctrinating students to not think for themselves.
Just by destroying Teletraan I, Thrust unintentionally saved the Autobot's lives.

Great episode. It really shows just how evil the Decepticons can be, and the utter desperation that the humans and Autobots face really makes their victory hit all the more harder.
It showed that the truth always comes out.

The Decepticon jet battle was one of the ebst scenes in the entire show's run... lots of cool little details in the.animation like the glint off Thundercracker's canopy, the human's 'determined' look and the missiles just flying all over the place.. so cool...

I loved that aerial dogfight scene. It's not often you get the human military forces getting into an all-out fight with the Decepticons in the cartoon.
I think Thundercracker kills a guy in that scene. At least, the pilot of the plane he shot down doesn't bail out...
Considering Toei animated the majority of G1 and in Japan, through anime like Gundam and Macross, the Itano circus animation technique became popular in a lot of 80's mecha anime, I wouldn't be surprised if the animators at Toei decided to add the same flair of an Itano circus (just more simplified in G1) because they were used to adding it into other mecha anime that were working on at the same time.
I wish there was more to this scene though. The Decepticons just wipe them out instantly. I wish there was like, that one pilot who was especially good, and outlasted everyone else, and maybe even shot down a D-Jet before getting taken out himself. I get the limited time allocated for scenes. This would have been a great 3 parter with a bit more detail like that thrown in

Both episodes were animated well with little to no color palette errors...atleast I didn't see any. Good stuff.
Best moment of this episode was seeing almost every single Autobot and Decepticon in one scene going at it

Megatron is very iconic in this episode. Like he does all the classic Megatron lines.
I just LOVE how Dark Of The Moon took some inspiration from these two episodes, and had more G1 references than some of the other movies.
I thought Dark of the Moon was effectively the Ultimate Doom.
DotM has the most G1 reference live action movie. Even Megatron sitting on the Lincoln statue was straight out of G1.

I really like how they very specifically made sure to show that the Constructicons had already been gunned down. Megatron couldn’t play his trump card and try to salvage the situation.

Man, I love that scene. The delivery of that line. The growing shriek of the jet engines. The way Ramjet's transformation sound synchronises with the music. It's just so pleasing to the ear. Also seems the Decepticons have a poetic spark in them.
This whole episode is my favourite of the series. There's some depth to the characters. Berger isn't just a cartoon villain, he's a flawed man, greedy and power-hungry, but he has an actual heart underneath, with remorse and grief bursting out when he realises what he's done. Megatron isn't reduced to laughing maniacally, but gets some solid dialogue, acts with composure for as long as is needed and carries his plan through to fruition like the leader he's supposed to be. And Prime, while it's not highlighted in any way, makes an absolute fool of himself. In the first episode he's like "we gotta follow the law, it's the honorable thing to do", and then, for no reason other than the Autobots grumbling - because nothing has changed, they'd just been floating in space for a while - he decides to turn back, basically admitting that all his talk about law, honour, and values was utter crap. What a humiliation.

Prime was humiliated, because megatron knew his weakness was honor and following the law. Kinda brilliant by megatron
I think it's cool that they show Prime not being perfect. But being able to realize his own mistakes isn't humiliating, it's what makes him a good leader.

I always loved how Megatron threw Berger under the bus on camera.
It was a hard lesson Berger had to learn. He had to learn that money did not buy good character.
There was zero need to do it, too. He’d already won, as far as he knew, he could have treated Berger badly like everybody else and no one would ever know what went down. He threw Berger under the bus solely to be cruel.
This feels like it inspired Dark of the Moon, there's a lot of similarities between this and that. I've noticed that quite a few episodes have similarities to some of the films. Maybe the writers and producers did do their research after all.
Pois é. Só que ele deixou de fora a questão dos personagens. Quero dizer: ele não desenvolveu as personalidades como no desenho. Nos filmes, os transformers são vazios e sem graça. De vez em quando eles dizem algo ou mencionam algum traço de personalidade, mas no geral a coisa sai do esquema geral característico e fica estranho ─ tipo a relação entre Megatron e Starscream, que deveria ser de rivalidade e abuso, não passa de uma relação quase amigável; Starscream é todo subserviente e nada desafiador. Soundwave não tem participação interessante como no desenho. Acho que ele aproveitou muito mal ou quase nada os personagens. Uma pena.
As a little kid, I Thought this was kind of a foolish idea because I didnt think humans would be THAT dumb to believe Megatron's propaganda. However after the last 5 years, I can appreciate the deviousness and intelligence of Megatron to ally with and manipulate a megalomaniacal businessman.

That wasn't the punishment they were simply exiled it was Megatron that altered the flight plan, the US legal system merely expatriated them to Cybertron so that Autobots face the Cybertronian legal system for their alleged criminal activity.

I don't think anyone would go so low as to reprogram his plane to fly into the Sun instead of going to the Arizona Federal Supermax Prison. Treason is a Federal crime punishable by either imprisonment or death. However, sending people into the Sun is not among the approved methods of execution due to cost and practicality issues as well as the part about it being too "cruel and inhuman". Sequestering his assets is a given once they discover evidence of money laundering and tax evasion.
Shawn Berger was sentenced to an undisclosed federal prison for life, courtesy of Col. Sharpe. As Berger was being led into his prison cell, Flint read him the riot act, "Well, Berger, you're going to spend the rest of your life, thinking about how you betrayed the United States and endangered the world by colluding with Megatron and the Decepticons and your little network just got turned over to the U.S. Government as a backup communication station for Teletraan 1!!!"

@@evangervase5670 yeah. And just when the humans thought they'd be safe, the Decepticons (along with Sentinel in DOTM) started taking over a particular city.
However, DOTM was much more brutal, since G1 had the Decepticons using humans as slaves and DOTM had them using humans for "target practice". Plus here, the Decepticons wanted energy reserved (such as fossil fuels and electricity) and caused minimal damage to the city while in DOTM, they brought Cybertron to Earth (like an episode in G1 Season 1) and began to wreak havoc in Chicago. But basically it's not a big surprise since G1 was meant for little kid a a toy commercial, and DOTM was just an average PG13 action movie.

Megatron sent them into the sun, it was originally programmed to go to Cybertron.
You know when all the Autobots are on the ship he makes me think, What if all of them were with Hot Rod, Kup, Arcee, Ultra Magnus, Springer, and Blurr to fight Unicron
Because the Autobots accepted the judgement and did not flee or fight, despite having the power to do either with ease. The Decepticons on the other hand will always attack or retreat, and never submit.
The original verdict was being returned to Cybertron, but Megatron made a few…modifications to the coordinates.

By destroying Teletran One, he also destroyed the fixed guidance on Cosmos, allowing him and the Autobots to return to Earth.
Reminds me of how Megatron decided to cripple Sentinel when he was about to kill Optimus.
And then he ended up letting his guard down a bit too long, plus even forgot to cock his gun (thanks to him feeling convinced that Optimus would fall for the truce, and his trap.), causing Optimus to easily pry off Megatron's head without difficulty.
Boy I really hope Megatron vaporized him for that blunder

Funny thing I always thought about when it came to the decepticons during their dialogue with other species, they never “talked down” to other living creatures as they acknowledged their existence and power in their own right. They just simply wanted all the power for themselves. Even Megatron acknowledges “Earths Mightiest Warriors”, instead of trying to dismiss them as nothing more than little ants that are a nuisance.

In my humble opinion this 2-parter should have served as the Season 2 finale.
When thrust goes after chip at the ark he could have had a nasty surprise if grimlock and the dinobots had been waiting for him 😂
12:39 is still my favourite line in both part 1 and 2 of this. Still got my video cassette with both parts of Megatron's Master Plan, and it's still one of my favourite episodes of G1 Transformers.
Lets face it the transformers are the greatest cartoon ever created

Think these were the only time you saw starscream totally on board with megatrons plan and not trying to piss on his parade
When Chip and Sparkplug say “Autobots!” in unison and Megs panics. Pretty badass
I always wondered where Skyfire and the Dinobots were for the final battle scene.
Don’t forget Omega Supreme (the Insecticons make a cameo, at the beginning of this - part 2 of the episode, in ‘Decepticon Day’, some time before the Constructicons are seen). Nor do I get why the only two of Soundwave’s Decepticon cassettes - Frenzy and Buzzsaw - weren’t in this episode. (Blaster makes a cameo in part 1, but the only Dinobot seen, additionally as a cameo, when Trailbreaker saves the Autobots, is the leader - Grimlock).
What if Mirage had evaded arrest (in Part 1) by staying invisible & was able to protect Chip Chase from Thrust in the Ark? Then Mirage might have been able to help Chip get the Autobots back to Earth without destroying Tele Tran 1.
Only if mirage managed to discover that Teletraan I was hacked. Imagine if he try to defend Teletraan at all cost and he succeded: Cosmos would never come back from the sun!

I dunno. All the Constructicons sans Bonecrusher look pretty deactivated to me, so I don't know why they continued appearing after this episode.
Not that Devastator was shitty as a combiner in Season 2 onward anyways. Menasor ended up being the strongest combiner in the series once he showed up and was only beaten through sheer luck.
Dark of the moon is basically a blend of Megatron master plan and ultimate doom

I remember this episode when I was a kid and recall hating it - angry at the people that mistrusted the Autobots to the point I actually got bummed when these episodes repeated. 😅
I think it was kind of pointless for Cosmos to fly into the ship to try to work the computer. If Cliffjumper wasn't able to get it respond, what good could Cosmos had done?
His very function is Reconnaissance & Communications. He has further technical knowledge in both areas than both Prime and Cliffjumper do. He also possibly possesses the ability to acquire superuser access to many computer based systems, and since his very alt mode protects him from a lot of the harsh elements in outer space, it’s only natural he be called upon. He can withstand a lot higher temperatures than the rest.

Besides Soundwave being more stoic than his cassettes that I don't think he'd dance alongside them, considering he's kneeling, I don't think he had room to dance. It does beg the question of how he got into the venue in the first place, because the only logical explanation is either he transformed from his tape deck mode or he crawled in through on his hands and knees 😂

Yeah, it never occurred to the Humans that the Decepticons could've been trying to trick them. The Humans acted like gullible retards in this two parter and should beg the Autobots for their forgiveness. I'm surprised that the Autobots were so forgiving to the Humans and didn't just stop helping the Humans and focused on getting energon to defeat the Decepticons without caring about Humanity.

I heard somewhere that the entire jet attacking the city sequence had to be redone. The animation cells were filmed backwards…resulting in the whole scene going backwards!
Ohhh that's why I can feel so much malice and anger radiating from those frames...
Seeing this as an adult; one thing puzzles me?? Where are the Dinobots?? I mean Chip could’ve met up with them at Autobot HQ; argued with Grimlock into freeing Spike and Sparkplug and then staged an attack just in time for the Autobots to join in and send Megatron packing, lol!!

It was cool seeing all the Decepticon Seekers in flight together near the end when they took on the Airforce. And Blitzwing flying along with the rest, since he does fall under Starscream's authority while in the air. And it does illustrate how the Autobots are the only ones who can stop the Decepticons. And I imagine a lot of that energon made its way back to Cybertron. When you think about it, Megatron was slowly winning the war with each scheme. While the Autobots eventually showed up to stop his plans, each time Megatron secured more energon to send back to Cybertron and keep his interests running there. That explains why by 2005 the Decepticons were in full control of the planet.
But what is up with the jets and not using doors? First, Thrust crashes through the roof of Autobot HQ to go after Chip, instead of using the front door. Then Starscream crashes through the ceiling when the Airforce attacks.

I guess the writers wanted the audience to REALLY hate Soundwave as they may have felt that some of the fans respected Soundwave for his loyalty to the Decepticon cause and for being good to his cassette creations. They couldn't have that so they had Soundwave be overly cruel to Human slaves.
Earth germ, mud ball of a planet....Megatron is ruthless, very ruthless!!!!!....this episode is very iconic and symbolic on a lot of levels...it is symbolic of the manipulation and mind control of humans, ( let's face it, us humans can be easily controlled and manipulated) and the coming marshal law and suspension of the Constitution...
