Great reaction. I love how you explain what I am hearing, but I don’t know the technical explanations. I love Chance’s bass in this. I’d like to recommend another 5 part harmony- “I Can’t Outrun You “- Chance lead( in his lower register), hauntingly beautiful, and Chance directed the video.
You know, I really like your way of analyzing music here, you are very detailed, but you don't beat around the bush with your comments, just factual statements, and obviously your opinions. I imagine your editing must take you a lot of time, as every cut is very precise, cutting in the piano is spot on, and I feel that your target group are those of us who already heard these reactions from others commenting on how they like it, and you offer that extra level of detail and knowledge. I really really like it. I will also say that you are bold, not afraid to mention when you think something is layered or multitracked, I know a lot of Home Fries can get super defensive about that, but it is not (or should not) be a secret that Home Free, like everybody else, do use these techniques, when recording studio/album versions of their songs. It is still acapella, it is still them, only giving them an opportunity to add more of their delicious abilities. Just as a looper has been used a few times, however not by default. Obviously they re-arrange their songs a bit before a live performance, to make it work with the 5 voices, and/or a loop station. I think the loop station usage is most obvious of the live performance of The Sea Shanty Medley, where you clearly see Rupp recording patterns, add them, and ending them, from part to part. Anyways, lovely reaction, and as you see, subscribed for more Home Free - Happy New Year to you all :)
Firstly, thanks so much for your comment - it means a lot! Let me respond to each section in part: The editing does take a fair while! I want to keep these videos under 15mins (ideally between 9 and 12/13mins if possible), and with the info I like to include, I need to edit out any unnecessary 'gaps' and 'umm's and 'aah's. Hopefully this makes for a nicer viewing experience, whilst not being as big of a time commitment by the viewer! And thanks for the note on offering an extra level of detail; I feel content creators should offer something of their own - whether that be an emotive display, or expertise in a field, or anything else - so this is nice to hear🙏 On the being bold part - thanks, and I hope it doesn't bite me in the foot one day 😅In short: facts are truth (unless they're misinformation, then being corrected is always nice) and shouldn't be ignored. I know a lot of fans of various artists will simply refuse to believe a fact if they don't want to believe it, such as their favourite artist lip-syncing a live performance. I actually believe this harms the artist's integrity as the expectations and standards become way too high 😪Every artist is still human at the end of the day - prone to illness, prone to wanting to put on the best show to give their fans the best experience, etc - and none are perfect 100% of the time! At the end of the day, only Home Free themselves will know exactly the makings-up of each performance, but people like me can try to hear what we hear and give our best, truest thoughts on what we're hearing 🎶 Couldn't agree more with you on your point about it still being acapella and it still being them, especially when it comes to studio recordings. Why would a group not add in a couple of effects or multi-tracking if the studio version will be enhanced and (most likely) enjoyed more by the fans 👌 Thanks again for your refreshing comment!
Thank you Sir, for another great and informative reaction. You are, I think, the only reactor who has caught that Tim is doing the high notes - most believe it is Austin! I've subscribed for more Home Free and added my small contribution to your road to 10K subscribers! May your 2024 bring you much health, wealth and happiness!
Thanks! These little changes and unexpected bits (such as Tim moving up high) are what make these reactions so interesting for me - keeps me on my toes 😅 Appreciate you, and I hope you have a lovely 2024 too
When they are singing live, you can see that Tim will sing some of the high melodies. He does it in How Great Thou Art all the time, though I swear I saw Adam do it once as well. Last year Austin was sick for a couple of dates on their holiday tour, and you could see Tim jumping from the depths up high to cover Austin's part sometimes. Adam's music degree is for the trumpet, and he has always felt his singing wasn't on the same level as the others. His confidence has grown over the years, so you will hear more of his voice in the more recent songs. He does a solo every concert and has included vocals where he uses a looper to harmonize with himself. He has even sung a whole verse of a song by himself, but that was a private VIP session. By the way, Adam's range is actually bigger than Tim's, it's just more difficult to hear because it's usually part of his beatboxing.
Thanks for the comment! I find what you say about Adam's opinions on his own voice interesting because everyone has a different style of voice - some are more suited for solos and being 'showmen', and others are more suited for blending with other voices and not standing out as much. The latter is super important for acapella groups, and (I think) that those with such a voice are actually more important to a group's overall sound. Adam, I think, has one of these voices - it's so smooth and perfectly in tune, and he has a great technique and range. Am always so impressed when I hear him singing, and look forward to hearing his use of the looper like you've mentioned!
@@SirHairless when Chris and Adam first started forming Home Free, Adam was going to sing and Chris was going to be the beat boxer. I’m thinking Adam’s trumpet skills made him a better choice for that since he could do things like circular breathing and triple tounging that make it easier for him to do such amazing and versatile sounds, and go for a seemingly long time without taking a breath.
Love your reactions and breakdown, it’s surprising how much that can switch it up, it’s been said that Tim will cover higher parts than most realize when needed in some arrangements. I’d love to see you react to some of Tim’s and Austin’s solo work there so good.
Love your commentaries and, as always, so fun to watch your facial expressions as you listen. Since you seem to lean towards their 5-part harmonies sans beatboxing, may I suggest two very deliciously beautiful and artfully done covers of theirs I'm sure you'll have fun with: "Helplessly Hoping," by Crosby, Stills & Nash; and, "Brothers in Arms," by Dire Straits.
Thank you for another great reaction! When you're well-rested and ready for a major treat check "Misty Mountains" (from "Lord of the Rings") by Peter Hollens featuring Tim Foust from Home Free. Truly amazing!
I've heard them perform live, and Chance's voice is so warm and smooth as butter. Actually his voice is my favorite in the group, followed by Tim. Guess I like those baritone/bass voices!
Love your reactions. This is a simple take, but HF, with Tim's low, always reminds me of a pipe organ. You should analyze Brothers in Arms some time from them. It's quite literally a masterclass in a cappella. They hit unison octaves at the end of it, and it's very moving. Happy New Year.
Excellent criticism, stayed true to the expectations of the blended genres. Free's rendition raises the cup of kindness to the auld, while never losing sight of whence comest. Good on ye lads!
It's been a pleasure to add your channel to my list of analyses to look forward to! Home Free's simple but masterful arrangement of this classic is so sweet, depending on basic chord formations but throwing in little surprises here and there. Here's hoping to hear more from you next year (aka, tomorrow), and that your New Year will be great!
Happy New Year 2024 🥂🎇🙋🏽♀️ How wonderful does this sound? This is how Home Free shows how talented they are. Every lead is great. It's a shame that Adam Rupp doesn't have a lead, even though he has such a good voice. Well, I think you can hear him well as a second tenor when Austin has the lead? But that harmony is so amazing, rich and strong. Beautiful!!
Happy New Year! Yes, Adam's voice is perfect for providing the harmonic support that (I think) actually contributes more to a group's overall sound and makes it more polished. I rate Adam's voice very highly indeed
You do absolutely great reactions! I love seeing your thoughts on your face as younce from left to right brain and back. You explanations are very informative.
Beautiful. I really love when we get to hear Adam's sweet voice. And having Chance able to fill in for the bass gives more " chance" to hear Tim play with his 5+ octave range in several songs. . Thanks for the Home Free reactions. Looking forward to more. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you and yours Sir Hairless this song and video highlight all their talents including their producer Darren Rust in whose studio this was recorded.
This comment is before you start the song. I've heard this many times. It is absolutely beautiful. Pentatonix does an equally beautiful version. Happy New Year!
I think somebody mentioned it, but the other man in the studio is Darren Rust, Home Free's long-term producer and arranger. He's a talented singer in his own right, with mid-western vocal group, The Blenders, and the HF guys often refer to him as the sixth member of the group.
One of my favorites. Such beautiful harmonies. Gosh, I thought that high part was Austin but you think maybe Tim? If it is Tim, wow! Love Home Free. Try Helplessly Hoping…it’s Chance’s baby and he directed it. Chance also did I Can’t Outrun You (lots of bass). Great analysis as always. Hope you had a Happy Christmas and have a wonderful New Year! 😍
Only HF themselves will know exactly what we're hearing, but I do believe it to be Tim for that line! Both of your recommendations are already on my list for future reactions 👌 You too! Happy New Year!
Thank you for choosing this beautiful song for le Reveillon. I can't stop smiling at the beauty of the singing and I feel the love. This "cup of kindness" made me drunk with Joy and Warmth. So beautiful! Happy New Year dear Sir Hairless. 🥳
That was a great analysis and breakdown! At times you draw attention to something I’ve missed. I really love the almost simplicity of this arrangement! As you said, there’s nothing outside the box, but there are some different elements of it where they bring out some really great chords. I do know that when Adam does sing (mostly Christmas songs) he will sing the same notes as Tim, but a couple of octaves above him. Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year! Looking forward to next year on your channel.
I ❤ your reactions! I like that you use the keyboard to show chords. As a flute player in the past, I understand most of it! Thank you for keeping it short and to the point also!
The judges were always giving them a hard time about choreography. A fun listen in the series is the sing off they do with another group Filharmonic. It’s hilarious and pokes a little fun at HF’s lack of moves. You probably wouldn’t want to analyze it but it’s worth a few minutes of viewing to brighten your day.
Whenever I think I heard all Pentatonix songs, I came across this 1 from Pentatonix. A absolute gem. Yes I am a 1track horse, only lister to apentatonix . There is another 1 Come Along, another gem. Greetings from South Africa
I learn so much from you as a reactor. I'm definitely partial to PTX, but I do love Home Free and am enjoying your take on both a Capella groups. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us/me. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year brother, we bid 2023 goodbye tonight !!! I really enjoy the way you breakdown the garmonies, it's fascinating !! Please react to Home Free's version of Colder Weather
Nicely done! I like analysis where I learn, and I also like when we get “the smile” which is an acknowledgment of the talent of the performers even from a professional like yourself. Thank you! Happy New Year!
Thank you for the insightful reaction to this beautiful rendition. I was surprised to hear you analyze Adam's voice. It's rarely acknowledged, let alone analyzed. Wishing you a wonderful New Year.
I love Adam's voice! I wrote about this in response to another comment, so I'll copy that below here in case you're interested: [...] everyone has a different style of voice - some are more suited for solos and being 'showmen', and others are more suited for blending with other voices and not standing out as much. The latter is super important for acapella groups, and (I think) that those with such a voice are actually more important to a group's overall sound. I love how Home Free keeps a lot of their video environments simple--allows the focus to be on their incredible acapella vocals. Just amazing 5-part harmonies! Home Free makes every song better!! ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #AdamRuppSinging
Happy New year!! So… 2 weeks ago Pentatonix released Oh Holy Night the video. I know Christmas is over. I believe you should watch it even if you don’t make a reaction video. Just enjoy it.
The feeling this song gives me, especially from Home Free, is warm, melancholic and gracious. It always makes me a bit sad, and these harmonies (which are so beautiful to my ears) move me. (I just learned that Pentatonix did this song as well). Thank you for this, Happy New Year and just fyi, I think your singing voice is beautiful. You have quite the range yourself. Bravo!
This was a lovely way to celebrate your 100th video on the channel and to wrap up 2023 :) Thank you for sharing your amazing talents with us and may 2024 bring many more great things and lots of success to your channel (10k is almost there😃)!
100th video?! Wow 😮 When I first made this channel, the plan was to just do 100 videos - so that's that milestone achieved 😃 Thanks, as always, for your support!! Hope you have a cracking 2024
There are a few fan cam videos of them doing this live, & off mic. Worth a look & listen. They're honestly much better live vs studio. They're just that good. Im loving your love & appreciation for them. Ive seen them live only twice so far, but incredible 👏 ❤❤
Great reaction. I remember looping this song a ridiculous amount of time when I first discovered it. I love it so much. I would love to hear your thoughts on Pentatonix's version too. Very different approach but equally great rendition.
Your analysis Sir -- Detailed and not boring, LOL! A good ear and ya pay attention (then again, that's what ya do --- hmmm). And YES, that was Tim, up top! But also Chance on bass -- LOL, where Tim is "elsewhere"! Video makes a big difference in who's who and who does what... but LIVE points to actual. The "sound" that's made; so, so, good. The talent and abilities of these guys can and will make your head spin! OK, enough for now! : ) Happy New Year! Wishing the bestest that 2024 brings and has to offer!!! Be Safe
Thank you for sharing with us such clear and informative analyses of, not just this brilliant rendition of such a beautiful and timeless song, but for all the other songs. Wish you all the best for this New Year, in spite of all that the things happening all around the world. Let us keep faith! Greetings from Porto, Portugal
I am REALLY enjoying your musical explanations and breaking down the arrangements for these groups. So much so that I can't wait for you to find my favorite acapella group so I'm just gonna drop it here in the comments and see if they spark your interest. New Year, new band...Voice Play makes some of the most creative and musically innovative arrangements I've ever heard. It's just insane, try Valhalla Calling, Oogie Boogie Song, or Seven Nation Army or any of their medleys. The arranging is the genius, well, the arrangements and Geoff's E1. Prepare to be shocked. Other suggestions include Hailey Rinehart and Post Modern Jukebox, Walk Off the Earth, and anything Geoff Castellucci does on his own, but Blackbird is special. Can't wait for your next reaction, really enjoying them all!
Thanks you (just subbed). Enjoyed your comments and analyses. Home Free is my favorite group. Been to 7 live shows and always waiting for the next one! Cannot get enough of them really. Great, great guys and super fun and funny at their concerts with the audience interaction, etc. Leave happy! Wondered if you have ever listened to any of Austin's solo work he started during/after COVID. (Tim has many also.) But I wondered if you've watched Austin's solo of Bring Him Home? Incredible! Of course, Austin and Rob's Nessum Dorum is astonishing really too. Take care. Thanks again.
Happy New Year! The more videos of your I see, the more I'm excited to see you react to Voctave. I'm sure you'll point out things I've missed in the arrangements.
Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a great 2023 and has an even better 2024 🎉

The harmonies in this are crushingly beautiful. It never fails to elicit tears through a wistful smile.

My thoughts exactly! Thank you for your comments👋‼️
Firstly, thanks so much for your comment - it means a lot! Let me respond to each section in part:
The editing does take a fair while! And thanks for the note on offering an extra level of detail; I feel content creators should offer something of their own - whether that be an emotive display, or expertise in a field, or anything else - so this is nice to hear🙏

The man that is sitting behind the control board is Darren Rust, also known as the honorary sixth member of Home Free. Great reaction, thanks!
Tim did that E2 without effort too. His normal speaking voice can go about that low.

Happy New Year, Sir! Thanks for the wonderful reaction and analysis as always. I’m looking forward to many more Home Free reactions in 2024.
Thank you! Happy New Year!
Absolutely beautiful ❤
Happy new year to you and yours 🇬🇧
Going to go ahead and put this out here- I’m would love your analysis of their rendition of Helplessly Hoping.
Have an amazing year! ❤
I wrote about this in response to another comment, so I'll copy that below here in case you're interested:
[...] everyone has a different style of voice - some are more suited for solos and being 'showmen', and others are more suited for blending with other voices and not standing out as much.
I love how Home Free keeps a lot of their video environments simple--allows the focus to be on their incredible acapella vocals. Just amazing 5-part harmonies! Home Free makes every song better!! ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️

Bravo!
Thank you! Happy New Year to you 🎇
Your reactions are always very instructional. Well done. Happy New Year🎉
Thanks! Happy New Year!
Of all of Home Free’s fantastic songs, the best one vocally, in my opinion, is “Brothers in arms”
It's on my list for the future!
Chance fills in on bass backup when Tim sings lead. ❤
Gorgeous. Love the arrangements where they all get to sing. And I get a little smile from all the "a cappella hands". Happy New Year!
This is so very beautiful! Thank you for the great analysis of this. Love your reaction!
🎉🎉Happy New Year everyone!🎉🎉 great reaction to close the year out and have fresh hope for the coming year 💝💞
This was a lovely way to celebrate your 100th video on the channel and to wrap up 2023 :) Thank you for sharing your amazing talents with us and may 2024 bring many more great things and lots of success to your channel (10k is almost there😃)!
100th video?! Wow 😮 When I first made this channel, the plan was to just do 100 videos - so that's that milestone achieved 😃
Thanks, as always, for your support!! Hope you have a cracking 2024
Oh, please don’t stop now! The first 100 videos are practice and now you get to master your craft.
There are a few fan cam videos of them doing this live, & off mic. Worth a look & listen. They're honestly much better live vs studio. They're just that good. Im loving your love & appreciation for them. Ive seen them live only twice so far, but incredible 👏 ❤❤
Please add Voiceplay to your acapella reactions! Really enjoying your reactions
and then also some of Geoff Castelucci's solo stuff, (he's the bass in Voiceplay). Geoff & Tim are friends
Man Sir Hairless, you are the whole package. Love everything about you. Carry on...
It’s amazing how you automatically know exactly what notes they’re singing. I really enjoy your reactions.
Such clarity of perception and precision of diction; you are a master of analysis.
Thank you very much!
Happy New Year! Wonderful reaction as always, with explanations of what we are hearing. Thank you!
Another informative analysis. Happy New Year!
Loved your reaction to one of my favorite Home Free songs! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! Happy New Year!
Be Safe
Thanks! Happy New Year to you as well 🙌
I wish you a happy and healthy New Year, Sir (raises cup)
Cheers, and the same to you!
Wow, you have an impressive ear to pick out all the parts! You're the first reactor who's mentioned Adam. Happy New Year! 🥳
Thanks! And credit where credit's due - and Adam certainly deserves a lot of it! Happy New Year ✴
Beautiful
Beautiful, thank you & Happy New Year to you & yours !
Thank you very much! I wish you a lovely year too
Your reactions and analysis are just amazing!
Thank you!
ANOTHER INTERESTING ANALYSIS ! CHEERS!
Cheers!
Voctave - disney princess medley... I really need to hear you analyze it 🤩
Sincere reaction.
I would love to hear your opinions on their version of Nessun Dorma, it's only Rob & Austin.
Thank you, and welcome! Wow, 7 shows - now that’s what you call a true fan 👏🏽
I’ve not got round to any of their solo works just yet!
I must also thank you for giving us a link for your next reaction❤
Thank You 👍
Happy New Year and have a super 2024 and thanks for the reactions of 2023...
Thanks, you too!
Happy New Year!🎉 Have you checked out their cover of "Mayday"?
Thank you, and you too! Not just yet, but it's on my list
Listen to David and hid daughter sing an aria from his cd “ classics” you won’t be disappointed.
You should check out Rob and Austin singing opera
Please concider reacting to Marcin! I would love love love to hear your thoughts on his newer stuff, like Carmen Habanera ❤
Marcin the guitarist? He's on my list for the future!
@@SirHairless Yes, the guitarist! Oh I'm so excited that you'll react to him! 🥳🥳❤️❤️
Happy New Year Sir! All the best. 🥳🎊🎉🥳
Thanks, and to you!
Happy New Year!
The more videos of your I see, the more I'm excited to see you react to Voctave. I'm sure you'll point out things I've missed in the arrangements.
Thanks, Happy New Year!
Bass heavy? Why not flaunt it if you have it!? Love your analysis. You point out things that most of us wouldn’t catch. Thanks. 😮
Exactly - and bass-heavy arrangements tend to be more difficult to pull off (in my opinion), which is why they're much rarer! Appreciate you 🙏
