This is an insanely impressive demo. I know how I’d accomplish most of these effects on the Amiga using copper lists or via brute force and mode x on the PC. How in the world is this being done on the C=64?!!? Also, Airwolf theme is awesome.
When I programmed the C64 I used to spend quite a lot of time assessing games, demos and effects as to how they could be made. There are always options and the skill here is the combining of different techniques both within one scene as well as from one scene to the next. Pre-generated look up tables for offsets and similar take a chunk of work from the effects, for example the waves where vertical offsets and are used to scale the graphics from 2:45 are clever and mean that the horizontal shifts are separate and therefore relatively trivial (the banding vertically is limited to 8 pixel/1 byte, i.e. character, widths). Likewise the 8 sprites used in the starfield at 5:15 are really well done with their re-use halfway down the screen only being noticeable when knowing what to look for. All great effects in this demo and very well done. These would have blown our minds when the C64 was current.
Is there a specific name for the color palette at 0:49? I noticed a lot of modern C64 demos use it, probably because it’s optimized for dithering to make it appear like there’s a lot more actual colors.

Looks like some mighty coding behind this piece of art. I wonder how much of this was prerendered on another hardware and what is generated on the fly. I doubt that C64 could handle multiple detailed 3D models with realistic lighting and cast shadows, or intricate patterns like the solar corona "dynamics" part.
the key is not how to generate the solar corona effect... but how to make it look like what it appears to be :) I spent a lot of time figuring out how to do this effect... I'm glad someone liked it :) Hedgehog/Nah-Kolor
Indeed really good, though largely inspired by censor design stuff, and especially by "We come in Peace" [made by C.D, Fairlight & Offence] . This does not prevent it from being a nice demo but at some point i felt it was a censor design demo ;)
