  • The chicken wing in your golf swing is not just making you hit the golf ball all over the place, it's also costing you a ton of clubhead speed. MyGolfDNA Instructor Chris Tyler shows you why this happens in your golf swing AND more importantly, shows you how to start getting rid of it today.

    The quick tip swing trainer ad in front of the video is only 3:40. This one is much longer. Hope you all enjoy the info.

      Awesome instructions!! I understood everything. I suffer from this swing.
      I went from a +2 handicap to a 7 because of it. Context. I'm a right-handed golfer and while deployed to Saudi Arabia, I tore my bicep tendon on the left elbow side(distol), the Rehab went well, but I lost strength in the arm and the mental hurdle of me trusting the surgery would hold, instead of pulling with the lead arm from the top and clearing through with the lead arm, I turned to throughing the club with my right arm to get my speed back and the only way to release it was to chicken wing. Post surgery, I went from 141mph driver swing speed to 75mph. So I compensated, creating bad habits and taking the bad swing from the conscious to the unconscious, no its habit. My swing speed is back, somewhat 131 mph, but I struggle with my driver because of it.
      I'm glad I found your video, I'm in the Tampa area, and you've been the only instructor to break it down to the micro level so I could understand it. If I'm in the area you teach I'd like to set up a lesson.

    That information about the humerus position is gold. I watched this and realized I was doing this wrong. Went to the range to practice this on Sunday and it was brilliant. Played a round today and had 79% FIR and 67% GIR. Massive improvement. Thank you! Love your instruction!

    I have been working on this move for a year without much success. It never occurred to me how trail side dominant I am until I watched the video.
    The drill immediately changed my swing thought.
    I’ll need to grind this out a bit, but I think I’m on a better path now.

      The trail side can cause a LOT of issues especially down in the hitting area and through the release. Go grind it out and let me know if you have any questions along the way.

    I picked up golf 10 months ago, I've watched hundreds of video and took maybe 5 lessons. You sir are teaching EXACTLY what I hoped my lessons would have covered. This is the best How To training of the correct movements for the right reasons. I will be going back and starting from the beginning with these lessons. I have to undo my tendency to hang back and top or miss hit. Thanks for sharing.

      That’s really awesome to hear John! It’s good that you’ve stuck with it. A lot of players give up too quickly cause they don’t see perfect results right away. Stay focused and committed and you’ll get there. Let me know if you need any help along the way.

    Another great piece of instruction Chris- I practiced this last 7 days and just amazing when you get it right - takes some time - getting the sequence right but - wow - how far it goes with a diddy swing and the strike feels amazing and so easy :)

    Focusing on the back of my left hand rotating over in front of my left thigh through the swing fills ALL the items on my checklist! This is the only tip that gets me throwing divots with my pitch shots like the Pros. Centrifugal force is increased so much more, pulling my arms down and out. All time best tip!!!!!

      Another observation…focusing on tucking your right elbow in on the downswing is so much more difficult than having the back of my left facing away from me. If left is correct my right is correct-simple.

    Awesome info. Is it good or bad or neither to have the lead shoulder internally rotated already at setup? I do that with a strong grip as well and now nothing is weak and right like it's been my whole life lol.

    • @MyGolfDNA
      @MyGolfDNA  11 місяців тому

      Glad you enjoyed the video. Preferably the lead shoulder should be in a neutral position at address as that will keep your scapula in position where it can help you transfer energy from the trunk and core. If you’re wider across the chest/shoulders you can allow for some subtle rotation. Hope that helps.

    i’ve watched several of your videos and have learned from them. I am 74 years old and have an arthritic left knee. I can stand my right side and hit my driver 240 yards at times. I really struggle to get on my left side. My irons constantly go left. 1:30 What can I do with a bad left knee? The doctor won’t do knee surgery on me.

    • @MyGolfDNA
      @MyGolfDNA  11 місяців тому

      Hi Jim, this is a really tricky one honestly without seeing the current state of your swing and without knowing where your pain threshold is at with the knee. What I can tell you is to make sure whatever weight you can move to the lead side is moving directly under the ankle joint and not to the forward part of the foot. This will keep the rotational stress off the knee. I’d also try your best to use the lead side obliques to rotate the hips open as much as you can stand. Keeping the ball from going left will force you to manage the clubface a little differently which in order for me to help you on, I’d have to see the swings. We could come up with something for you though.
