Doug: "You love the design... This is just our design!"
Jason: "Yes"
I could watch hours of those two talking about whatever.
nothing wrong with loving your own product. 😁
And, like they pointed out, it isn’t a simple copy. It has the dado slot for the divider
Lettering or images on a light/dark marbled surface will *always* be hard to read unless you go out of your way to outline it in a high contrast (to the lettering) color, because otherwise you can’t manage good contrast with the underlying surface throughout. Absent that, just make sure to pay attention to the surface you select for it, to minimize how much variation in shade there is.
I want to see them put this tray through a packing stress test (like they did in s1e10) and see how the dado slot holds up.
I am very relieved that most of you really liked the tray. Sorry the wood choice was a little crazy. I wanted to do something different. But black Limba is definitely hard to see the engraving. Thank you for the kind words.
Thanks for sending it in, Ryan! :)
You want a Quinn on your QA team. You need someone willing to be that savage.
The honest criticism was awesome. Not only did they offer honest criticism they expressed how it could be improved, what they liked, or interest in.
Thank you guys so much for the review! I made the Dragon at Heart box. Your review was spot on. I have been doing laser cutting for a few years and it is only in the past one that I have ventured into real woods and started to consider myself a wood worker. I still have a ways to go. For everyone who is interested in my stuff just know that the box with the Eolian design on it isn't one of my normal designs. The Eolian is from the King Killer Chronicles and those two boxes are going to be sent off to the charity World Builders for one of their fund raising raffles.
I did a google search for Dragon At Heart but the website was down, do you have an Etsy? It's a very inspired tray/vault concept
@@j.d.3597 Ya funny story about that. during quarantine I have been redesigning my website and when Friday's Wyrm Life didn't have my review I tried to transfer my domain to my new site hoping it would be up in time. Turns out that process takes a whole week to do. But until dragonatheart.com is up and running you can go to dragonatheart.squarespace.com in the mean time. Also if you have any comments on the new site I would love to hear them. Thanks
I loved your piece! Especially the pan pipes :)
I *completely* agree with Jason, the dice tray he picked as his favorite is the size Wyrmwood trays should be! The size you have is fine if you have a lot of space, but I know my main campaign in one where none of us really have that much space. And there's a lot of campaigns that are like that, where there isn't a huge table for space. Having a smaller tray option means that those of us with less space can get a Wyrmwood tray.
What this guy above me said. x2
not to mention it would go perfectly with the mini table they talked about last ep
@@Nonlinon This is an excellent point! Yes!
That's what the personal tray is for tho...
@@ThatRedHead717 which is even smaller, plus it's in system with the tower and vault. Doug and Ian are right the two trays they have are fine.
Thanks for the honest review!! I'm upping my finish game! Just started using Tried and True and can already tell the difference to wipe-on poly and waxing. Love you guys.
I have been doing woodworking for a few years and I do not have the guts to submit anything for them. I applaud you in your courage and willingness to put it out there. Well done friend.
@@edt765 Thanks. I was scared to death watching this. So glad Quinn came after mine was reviewed!
I am hoping to do a demo on how to properly sand/finish and get it on Wyrm Lyfe
Thanks for submitting your stuff! I hope you get some good press/sales :)
@@douglascostello2306 That would be amazing and much appreciated. Thanks again!
Every Episode with Quinn is a great episode. They never say anything nice and I love that about them.
I love how savage they are, more Quinn please!
100% Quinn is awesome
Everytime Quinn talks shit: ur doing amazing sweetie
I am glad they didn't give my tray to Quinn. Lol.
@@quickkill730 Great job on the tray btw : )
I claim the tiny plague doctor mask! I don't have a business to plug, but the pattern came from dieselpunk.ro. Thank you for taking the time to review it ❤❤❤
You did a great job with it. Well done
@@RecklessRobbie thank you ❤
Really liked that piece!
"I hope you didn't bring me over here to say nice things." - Me, every time somebody asks me for an opinion.
Loved the review of your competitors, fair and honest.
Let me return the favor. As a nurse, I feel obligated to say, for the love of god, put your face masks on properly. Make them cover your nose as well as your mouth and make sure they fit properly. Also, face masks are no substitute for distance. I don't want to sound mean. I'm just concerned for everybody's safety. I'm surrounded by this shit all day and have seen what it can do. Please, stay safe everyone!
Thank you for all that you are doing! Please be safe, yourself!
It drives me batty, thank you! I want to reach through the screen and fit the masks properly. 😆
This episode is the definition of constructive criticism. Well done, all!! Side note, I loved the concept of the fold out storage/tray, but the whole point of individual slots (other than ocd) is to protect fragile/expensive dice from chipping. But if you hear the dice rattle when you shake it, you have failed in that purpose. Perhaps have some foamy/spongy material lining each of the slots? Or just get rid of the slots entirely.
I don't think that WW should change the size, however, offering a smaller T-tray might be a good idea
I suggest looking up the personal tray. The tray in the video is basically a slightly smaller version of the table version.
@@jameswest6232 the personal tray is too tall on the sides for me - to the point where I even set my dice tower up onto the tabletop tray instead of the personal tray. I cant read any of the dice that are up against the walls without looking directly down into it. I'd LOVE if WW 1) implemented that join on the tray divider that they said they liked, and 2) made the personal tray have shorter walls.
I honestly don't know that much about woodwork. I know I like quality, but Quinn's QC shake and immediate eye for flaws, knowing they are in charge of Quality Control makes me that more confident in my Wyrmwood purchases
if there are enough submissions, can we just get a whole side series of Wyrmwood product reviews?
and can it be called the Wyrmwood Wyrkshop
I literally laughed out loud at the Quinn section. Wow, I thought Doug was a rough critic...
I think they were harsh but very fair and gave good reasoning for their feelings. They also were sure to offer what they thought would improve the products.
I love how totally Quinn broke Doug. He just crumpled laughing.
I've had a Dragon at Heart box for a couple of years and the folding design is nice for travel to group sessions. Gives a good rolling surface and storage while being compact. It's also very sturdy. Highly recommend it.
Quinn is just goals. Let them review the rest of the products and score them on the Quinn Scale. I imagine it ranges from "Awful" to "Passable".
Love the surprise Quinn appearance!
I absolutely LOVE the "book" concept of vault & tray combo. Keeping it all together, without needing to keep track of a lid is very satisfying to me.
Thank you very much
The criticism they gave of other dice vaults made me appreciate the perfection of the Wyrmwood one I have(Black Walnut
Quinn is Savage! That Vault Shake!
You beat me lol
Fyi 8:30 you are welcome
Quinn is definitely a must on the review videos lol. Dougs reaction to the Quinn Shake was the best.
QC Person needs to do these regularly. Even have a competition among all the craftsmen to see who can make the best dice vault/tray in her eye.
As a guy that would love to start making his own dice trays to sell, I loved watching this episode to get some ideas of what works and doesn’t work. Well done Wyrmlyfe!
Personally I think I'd have two to four alpha stages before saying I'm selling these items
I dont want to make them to sell, but I do want to make my own when I have space to work. It is neat hearing the things they look out for. Doesnt stop me from gawking at my homebrew purpleheart dice tray any less
As someone getting set up in the hopes of making resin dice, I'm hoping they start reviewing dice as well. I be here to take notes!
This is honestly one of the best videos you have done. I like these videos where you are talking about the products and what goes into them and how to improve them - not just competitors but also when you're talking about your own products as well.
As someone who sent them products to be review, I am in no way shape or form worried or stressing about if/when mine ever appear on a WyrmLife . . . no stress here what so ever . . .
Not even a teeny tiny bit?
Not even the tiniest bit. Look at my hands, steady as a rock!
@@ohlookitsmatty2982 Is that an earth quake?
Bright side, if they like the quality and design it could be your big break. 18k views worth of free marketing.
That is the dream!
The dice B-roll reads like a Bolly"wood" drug trip. I love it.
sebastian gallagher it does and I love to see it 😤😂
Dragon at Heart looked awesome, but a Flip case, I'm not sure I'd use. I have a laser cut Dice Tower that looks similar, and eventually the wood starts to separate from each other. I liked the Tangen Craft tray, if you ever gamed at a store, where the table space is a bit more limited, having a smaller tray helps, and I loved all the engraving that seemed to be available for it.
Thank you. It took me a while to finally decide on the smaller size. But I agree it works really well at a crowed table.
Hoping they do another of these as my handtooled tray isnt getting there till tomorrow! Really enjoyed the episode and those spalted dice. Lordy
I look forward to seeing their review of your stuff. I clearly made the mistake of rushing my finishing process to get it their early.
@@RecklessRobbie ya i feel ya there. I could have done a bit more but wanted to get it off cus doing stuff with hand tools takes a good deal longer than most lol
Quinn needs their own review show I would watch that savagery 100%
As a craftsman, I loved this episode. I was afraid it would be a "beat down" but it was fair and helpful. I may actually send you something after all 😅
You should. I loved seeing their review of my product and others. I would live to see this as a recurring segment.
I loved the whole "oh gods, they used __ tools"
Followed by the awe that the belt sander was done so well. XDD
Also, Quinn is awesomely honest
Man Bobby and JV you guys have upped your game ten-fold this season. I tell so many people about this channel because it is the MOST CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED CHANNEL TO EVER EXSIST. Love you guys!
For sure continue this as a recurring segment of Wyrmlife, assuming you continue to get product to review. It was fun, but also super informative!
Awesome, honest reviews! I am a MONSTER on the belt sander! :) My Vault was the only product that got it's own "Beauty Shots" that were in the video (at 10:08). Take away: Need stronger/ more magnets. :) Just confirming what I already knew. Thanks guys!
Michael Miller You saw the link in the description for the Google Drive link right?
Daniel Provencio I did miss that. edited my comment to be more accurate.
Lol im curious to see how nuts they think i am for using all antique handtools!
Loved this episode! The Criticisms were honest and straight up, that is something I respect so much! Kudos to all of the craft persons who sent their work to Wyrmwood! You are all as brave as you are talented! Cheers! Fun episode folks! (I won’t speak of the dice because to quote Tombstone...”I ain’t got the words...” WOW)
I want Quinn to do all future product reviews and that's with me sending stuff in. She tore that apart! but that's how we get better love it.
Quinn is a they/them
@@FaB-Bear I've seen people on here who supposedly have played in Quinn's games and they say quinn uses she, do you know if there's a video where they say Quinn's pronouns?
I think that the finish situation is somewhat subjective because they have a specific finish they go for and there are about 15 different finish levels I can think of. Aside from that it's fair, they don't seem to be fans of lacquer and it my favorite finish to use. I'm not a fan of how most oil finishes come out and they seem to exclusively love it.
I think there more pointing towards sanding scratches.
I agree they do lean heavily on the oil finish. On some woods it really makes the grain "holographic" qualities really stand out, such a Chechen. But I also tend to lean more towards lacquer or buffed shellac simply for the hard protective shell and the high shine. Plus, I'm mainly focused on protecting things that I know will get tossed around in a book bag.
Oil also helps it smell nicer.
Actually a pretty good review and criticism of the trays and vaults. Now if only their Homebrew crew knew how to do quality checks before they were sent home! Not trying to be negative. My personal dice tray came out great. My Master Vault however has a huge gap when closed. This is due to one of the magnets not being fully seated or flush with the surface. Should be an easy fix with a drill press or dremel. I'm sure Quinn would not have passed it. Either way, I wanted to support the crew being sent home. And these weren't the first items I bought from Wyrmwood. Probably won't be the last. Looking forward to what y'all have planned with those affordable tables and accessories!
New segment of wyrmlife Quinn’s reviews. Just one product per episode where they go over the product and provide feedback & letter grade
Quinn is the best Wyrm Life character and I wish they were in more episodes.
I DEFINATELY agree with Jason , I would LOVE it if there was like a dice tray mini or something that Wrymwood made, I live in a small studio apartment that is lacking in space, and having something that size would be wonderful. Part of the reason i've been put off buying a dice tray from you guys is how large they are. Dont stop producing your normal dice trays though they're great, just...space...
Try a personal tray, it's a very different aspect ratio but it works great on my friend's cramped table.
Oh, I just love that little plague mask key chain
I agree, lil tray! Jason isn't ALWAYS wrong 😂
"Look at this guy!" lol
Excited for these dice and the new tables, I'm going back and diving into some content I missed. Such a fun channel, thanks guys!
Kvothe would be proud of that case!
Amazing work!
Loved this episode. Its so refreshing to see people who know how to give constructive criticism. Good show!
Best episode yet. I absolutely loved reviewing competitors crafts.
I love Quinn. I just. They're so damn savage and I also love their glasses.
So happy the Spalted dice are available. Added those as soon as I saw them.
"Look at this fuckin guy"
haha I am loving Wyrmlife so much and how brutally honest everyone is but how kind they are as well!
Gotta agree.
I'm no woodworker so Ican't judge on craftmanship but I do love the folding tray+dice storage design originality, would be so awesome if it's solid hardwood and rather than laser cut and if it comes with foam lining for mini and dices.
Thanks for the complement. I have sold foam inserts for the mini slot in the past. I'm planning on adding them back to the store some time soon.
i do like the divider on that ugly one with the purple heard divider. when its done like that i have less fear of my dice vault breaking the divider.
rabbits like that are really sturdy, they really make a difference
I'm in love with the Quinn test.
Quinn is my new favorite person. 0 tolerance for bullshit. My hero!
This show has no right being this good. Quinn just dunking on those vaults was perfect
I gotta agree with him on the smaller size being better. I have a beautiful WW size tray which I never get to use because there's just not room at the table when I'm sitting around it with 5 other people. Sometimes its out as a tray everyone rolls into but when I'm DMing it just doesn't fit behind the screen and doubles the amount of room I need for set up
omg, i love Quinn! that was just brutally honest comments! that was an awesome segment and I love the honest compliments and critics!
Good points. I'm going to agree with Jason on the size of that tray. If Wyrmwood sold smaller tabletop trays I'd buy one to go with my personal tray. Give a nice medium range for when you've got some elbow room but the table's still pretty small.
Check out my shop I would be happy to make you a smaller tray
Fair and well received criticism all around. Needs a part 2!
Whaddya know, finished catching up on all the previous episodes just in time.
Very fair assessment of the products, I'd like to see more of this.
Seeing this makes me want to step up my wood working game.
I hope this idea continues!
I have to again agree with Jason - I like the size of the dice tray. I think he's right about this and about the percentile dice.
I agree I like the size of my tray as well.
This was fun. I'd definitely watch more of this.
Got to agree with Jason at the end there...that smaller tray is what the tabletop personal trays sizes should be
I honestly have to agree with the tabletop tray size, I’d like the option where it could be a bit smaller and still keep the groove to hold the dice I want to roll
Agreed. I've been working on an idea for a tavern tray for a while and keep from just a small sized tray to a carry kit with a small tray
I THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS MONSTER ENDING SONG!!! It is now one of my favorite songs on my workout Playlist!!!!
You guys talked a lot about the feel/finish of all of these products - is there any way we could get a deep dive into how Wyrmwood gets the silky smooth finish (with no sanding striations)? I was super impressed when I unboxed my tray and master vault a couple weeks ago.
I really liked that hinged tray with the space for your mini on the side, but it could go with some sort of padding both there and in place of the die cutouts. Different systems use different dice and it would suck to have that while playing a system that uses like 8d6 for all your rolls. I think you guys could do a take on that yourselves that would be even better with a few small improvements
I love this video giving people feedback on there work it's such a great thing that shows you're awesome people who have such an amazing company. Wish more companies had people who actually gave a shit about others great job.
Their QA is as amazing as they are terrifying as they need to be. The group said hey this is ok then the QA came in and said naw fuck that. I love Wyrmwood even more for the fact they obviously have one hell of a QA team that forces them to not screw around
I wish Wyrmwood would do the dice tray with a beautiful wooden cover, magnetically sealed, with the logo on top. I dream of that day.
Not only do I not want a smaller standard dice tray, I personally want a D-tray just big enough that I can fit my core rule book in.
Lol i made my wife a duel sided dice storage tray that fits her manual over the dividers as almost a lip
You're spot on Jason
I completely agree with Jason. I would love a dice tray of that size! Big enough to hold my dice sets while i use it as a rolling tray, but not so big that it takes up too much space behind a already crammed DM screen.
11:20 is a beautiful lil snippet 😂
Look at this fuckin' guy!!
Lolll I love the wood dice so much! I can't wait to get my hands on some purpleheart dice!!!!!
Also WHO THE FUCK SCREAMED HUFFLEPUFF WHEN JASON PUT THE MINI MASK ON HIS HEAD??? That shit made me laugh way more than it should have.
Honest feedback is so rare. Great video
I agree that the first tray was also my favorite, and I'm proabably color-uncoordinated or just bad at design, but I didn't think the material combination was all that bad
Thank you for saying that, I offer many wood types so I am not attached to the color combo but I liked it. I think Doug convinced them not to like it. Lol.
I know I ask this every video, but any updates with the blueprints for the Dice Vaults/Trays/Towers?
-
BTW I'm gonna need to make sure I get strong enough magnets whenever I get to make my vaults and towers.
I was impressed with all of those designs for (I assume) single makers.
Good feedback to.
i appreciate people like Quinn. She's not here to spare your feelings, she's here to make you product the best it can be!
Loved this episode, critiques are so much fun and I miss them from when I was in college. Oh, also: "Look at this fuckin' guy!"
Okay, I've just recently started watching these, and I just got to say. Quinn is my favorite person.
Being a QC tech myself, Quinn is my spirit animal!
My takeaway from this is that Quinn is a monster. It's a fucking good job she works in QC!
Thank you guys for the kind words. I didn't mean to cause an argument over small trays or larger trays. All sizes are welcome. I made many test samples and this is the size I landed on mainly because my gaming table regularly has 7-9 people at it. But again thank you for the criticism, you guys are too kind.
Whats your measurements? Mine are roughly 12"x9" been toying with a smaller version design. The crux is doing it all handtools with dovetails it ends up being the same amount of work for less money
Your tray looked great. It is the size I prefer too. From the look of it our boxes had a similar rolling tray size.
Wyrmwood: Not only are we going to give honest and helpful feedback to our competitors, but we are going to take professional pictures of their products for them to use on their sites.
Me: Wyrmwood's tagline should be "The Gentleman's Company"
I like the vault that flipped open most.
It wouldn’t be super *easy* to use, but it looks fun and unique, like a magic item.
Thank you for the complement. But I'm curious what you don't think would be easy to use about it. Are you talking about the flipping lid or the custom dice slots?
I like the current dice tray dimensions because (I measured this once) it will fit however many dice vaults perfectly. So if you were a crazy person that had like 5 or 6 vaults you could store them all in the big tray.
More reviews on fan made products please.
I got spalted for Christmas in the roll the dice a couple years ago. I need the matching set
I agree with Jason on the trays being too large!
As do I, I game at a crowed table and having the smaller tray really helps.
I’d love to see a review of the vault I bought a few weeks ago. Pencil slot is big enough to hold the iPad mini I use for gaming.
Look at this fucking guy! Making awesome dice and vault promo videos! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Awesome job.
The folding tray/dice/totally not an adventurers aresnal thing would be something that a wyrmwood development of would be very interesting to see, i think.
*grabs my dice vault and gives it a Quinn shake*
*nothing happens*
Huh.
I like my big table top tray. I don't want something small, I want something with space to roll.
