You’re an absolute madman going for the livery but I know you’ll pull it off and make me green with envy. It already looks amazing without a lick of paint present.
Lovely set up Martin, very inspiring as well. I just finished a Napoleonic command stand with a mounted Peck, and an ADC , apparently yelling over the sound of the battle, as the ADC takes a written version of the orders from a dismounted staff officer. I was concerned that with the addition of an officer with the colors & a Spanish casualty there'd be too much going on but I'm very happy with the results. I took a lot of guidance from the paintings of the era which invariably contained a casualty or two and lots of flags. So, it seems to me you've got all the makings of a command stand diorama. See you next time.
Thanks very much, a casualty is always a good way to go. I akways try and make my commamd bases feel like a scene like something is actually happening, it gives me more motivation to finish them 👍
I like the way you're going, but personally I'd lose the cannon and gunner and add a couple of subordinate commanders as the people for whom the point is meant. Of cours, that's entirely a personal preference and I'm looking forward to how your interpretation comes out..
That is a definite option, i have been looking for a couple of retainers whos coats of arms i could paint into their is coats. I like the idea that Warwick has moved his men ofnthe body to a position that have either been retaken or has been recently attacked, i did consider doing the cannon as a wreck. If i do use it, it wont be as far forward as it is here 👍
Great work Martin looking forward to this project progressing maybe if you didn’t want Warwick holding his weapon you could put a servant next to him holding or handing him a sword or poleaxe?
This will be wonderful, but I freely admit that (selfishly) I am terrified that completion will mark the end of an era. Do say it will not be so, though also, congratulations on this epic achievement. His troops await. Send him to them.
Haha thats a good point, this part if my project has taken me far further than i thought it would. I wouldn't worey though, the Kingmaker will always have men in his service who need painting. I do need to prepare for the next focus - My good Lord of Gloucester needs some attention 😁
Good god. That is absolutely GORGEOUS work Martin! I really love what you're doing for this project. You're inspiring folk to get out there and make some decent diorama commanders 🤘🤘
Inspiring , wonderful , brave, I would never have the skill to do a livery paint job ,I would el-cheto, and buy transfers if they are available, instead. Next year After my 1813 Napoleonic Leipzig Project , maybe BP or GDA , I,m going to get back into my WOTR project , Up the Yorkists, in 28mm Perry's., along with my book, North-eastern England during the Wars of the Roses, A J pollard., and see what rules are availble for this period. You give me so many wonderful ideas, keep up the fascinating work. I always look forward to your video`s projects.
This does look very good! I'd adjust the artillery piece so it pointing in more of a similar direction has Warwick's finger, I'd use one less standard in the back, and instead have another crew member of the artillery, so same number of figures, but just a swap the long banner bearer to the back, and have a 2nd crew member. Anyway, it your diorama, and it is still quite good as it is, congrats!😎👍
Cheers mate 👍 i see what you mean, hmmmm 🤔 i do love the cannon, i did consider wrecking it and have a casualty next to it so Warwick looks like he has found a lost position. I think you may be right about the standards, I'll olay about a little more. The great thing is they won't be stuck down until near the end so plenty of time to move things about 😁
That's really cool, i assume thats through his granddaughter Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury? That is a really aweaome lineage to have 👍 As as far as i can remember i think she's the only child of Isabell, Warwicks daughter who had any surviving children (her brother was executed without issue and Anne Nevilles only child Edward died without issue)
Is there a height limit to a command base? I believe if you use the cannon that pulls your eyes to it. Having your commander higher, maybe directing locations. Just kinda looks flat. The one for his brother(?) looked a little compacted, tight. Love all the hard work and beautiful minis. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome 👍😀Thanks very much for taking the time to comment. There is no height limit. As i say in the video i will be adding some undulation and height to the base to there will be a gradient - i was thinking of having the slope fall away to the right and having the cannon on lower ground, likewise the guys behind. As if Warwick had gone up a small hill to view what was going on 🤔 The base of John Neville (His brother) i wanted to be in the midst of battle so i intentionally blocked his men together behind him.
While I like the pointy finger. I actually think the hand which looks like it’s grabbing the visor work better. Having him in a pose of march, holding his visor up as a small gaggle or lower orderlies/officers stand to his side/front - as if he’s directing them to their posts while also walking along them/towards his objective
@@reecedignan8365 ah i see the one you mean its the 2nd hand for that axe, you would have to cut that quite sharply to get the angle and then fill in but would totally work 🙂 May use that on another base, thanks for taking the time to point that out 👍
@@7thson726 welcome mate. Just thought it look good with him holding up his visor, a couple men at his side as if walked out his way while asking question, another slightly more in his way but still off to the side, then you could have the priest and administer off to his left - the administrator slightly infront of the priest in a guard like position but not obscuring/to obvious guard position (just enough that if a stray shot/arrow comes he can body block slightly). Then for his banner men/loral men having them walking up behind him with his dogs interspersed between their legs as if following him through/weaving between his escort.
Grey stuff Martin as always! Have you done or thought about doing a “getting started with a wars of the roses army”? I know it differs between rule sets but I would be interest to hear your thoughts on a good place to start when purchasing minis and how to group/base them
Really enjoy these types of videos and watching it all come together. Can I ask where the metal spears were from please? They look perfect for a number of command bases I'm working on for my Agincourt army. Keep up the great work. Cheers, John
Hay Martin, I’m really excited for Warwick’s base, can’t wait to see it in a battle report. Also I have a question about the bases. What size are your normal command bases? I’m doing a 90mm base for King Richard but I’m not sure about a base size for John De Vere.
fantastic job. i can’t wait for the next video. just one little question, where can you find the normal banner with the ragged staff of warwick because i can’t vind that one anywhere
Awesome!! As always... Question: in the system of rules is there a reason why the base must be oriented in this way (ie with the protagonist in the center of the "long side")? I ask because the composition, which points to the battle, would (perhaps) be more dynamic if everything were longitudinally oriented. Am I talking nonsense?
Nope, it’s just a thing that represents the commanders position on the battlefield. Plays no major role in the actual game. It just comes down to personal preference - I see guys who have entire diorama’s for their commanders in Black Powder with some not even looking towards the battlefield but conducting in the opposing direction
Absolutely, the composition is important when im building the base up, in this case width for me takes preference as i want Warwick at the apex of the whole thing. In game, you can pretty much base them how you like.
I love listening to your thought process when constructing these. Cannot wait to see the finished project.
Cheers, i wasn't sure if it would work as its not a direct tutorial but more of a step by step report 👍
I love those WOTR videos ! 👍🏻
Cheers, i love making them 👍
You’re an absolute madman going for the livery but I know you’ll pull it off and make me green with envy. It already looks amazing without a lick of paint present.
Haha cheers bud, its certainly going to be a intresting one to try and paint 😅
going to look very good Martin looking forward now to see it finished
Cheers mate 👍
Really enjoyed this. The base is going to look awesome, looking forward to the next video.
Cheers buddy, really glad you like it 👍
It’s shaping up to be a fitting centerpiece for this army
Thanks 😁👍
HE HAS ARRIVED.
He's always late to the party 😁
This is going to look so epic. Keep up the good work. Take care. 👍👍
Cheers buddy, glad you like it 👍
A WARWICK A WARWICK!!!!!!
Exactly 😁 shout it loud 👍
Excellent! Not a period that I'm into but I really enjoy following your progress and passion for the project.
thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it 👍😀
A cracking project Martin. Looking forward to the next instalment and especially how you deal with the base.

Very nice Martin, great seeing your process and how you go about constructing these bases.
Haha cheers bud, glad you enjoyed it 👍😁
I just picked up my 1st box of of WOR infantry and a commanders pack. I try not to expand into more periods but you guys look like you are having fun.
Haha well done, they are great minis and its a fascinating period to game 👍
His various minions 😂 make him sound like Dr Evil 😂
😁 you're too far wrong there to be fair haha
What a brilliant project, good luck with the livery and I am looking forward to seeing the finished result. Thanks for the post
No problem. The coat of arms will be..... Intresting. May need a swear jar nearby 😅
Brilliant video and series start Martin. Always lovely to see how your bases come together.
Cheers bud, can't wait to get the time to sit down and start work on him 👍
You may need a bigger table!.... looking amazing already.
Always need a bigger table 😅
It's finally happening! Was really looking forward to seeing what you did with the big man himself. And was totally worth the wait!
Cheers, hopefully won't have to long to wait 👍
This is going to be awesome!
Hopefully, just starting the painting today 👍

Love your video on the war of the roses I’m doing an army for bosworth but am stuck on the livery for Jasper Tudor men
I think he was green and white with either a red dragon badge or a white greyhound 👍
Will look great when finished 👍
Hopefully 😁
Can't wait to see this finished!
Me either 😁 may take a while, cheers buddy

Is there such a hand on the sprue? 👍 Have I blinked and missed something
@@7thson726 think so.
At around 08:04 you can see one just beside the axe that if posed correctly could work as a hand lifting/resting the visor on.

Hello mate, glad you enjoyed it. I have indeed ua-cam.com/video/NhdmtIraMV0/v-deo.html
👍😁 Let me know if you need anything else, happy to help
Is this the way to madness? 😉 Stunning as ever. Is he coming to CrackCon? Not long now
Haha one of many ways 😅
He won't be coming with me, but his brother will be
looking forward to seeing the results dude
It'll be intresting to see how it ends up from the original plan 😁

Thanks 👍😁 these are alot of fun to make so glad you enjoy it. The metal spears are from North Star Games 👍
@@7thson726 ah, found them. Thanks so much :)
Time stamp 2.50.... Madness.....
The mounted figure?
The tabard.... ahhhhhh...... A thought occurred to me to take it further. Cutting the body from the mounted figure and adding the tabard body instead?
I think you definitely need a pavilion and a hog roasting on a spit, otherwise sweet!
He definitely needs a camp behind him 😁

Sorry, i missed this, there is a small one in one of the Perry kits and the Petes Flag set of flags has one on a swallowtail 👍
Where did the dogs come from ? Great looking project
They are from Steel Fist Miniatures 👍😁
I feel the cannon is not a fit . Maybe a horse representing that he has just dismounted have a figure leading the horse away. Just an idea.
I'm beginning to think that as well, am having a think 🤔
