I think I am in the very minority because I can't stand glossy lips. I'm autistic so the gloss usually comes with stick (even the non-sticky ones) and I cannot stand it. That's why I love liquid matte lipsticks like the Unearthly and Kaleidos, or even the Melt ones (both stick and liquid). I love your reviews, especially with lip products, your descriptions are very informative. Take care of yourself! 🤍
Thanks so much for watching today. It's so important to know your preferences and not get swayed by a review. It's taken me a long time, but I finally know what type of beauty user I am, and what my preferences are. I try to keep those things in mind when watching reviews or reading product claims. I don't want to purchase products that aren't made for me and how I like to wear makeup. Occasionally I'll get lost in the hype, but I try not to do that anymore.
@@zoilalulu3798 You're so right. A gloss need to have some tenacity to it, or it will end up all over the face. Some formulas are stickier than others, but they all have some stick to them.
My no no’s were those elf stick balms with the heart shaped core. Unlike you, I am not a fan of Jolly Rancher flavored lip products. I’m also not keen on anything that burns in order to plump. Also, I have yet to find a two in one cheek and lip that works well.
I love your honest opinions on products. A lot of influencers have been promoting the City Lips gloss as something revolutionary, but you confirmed what I already suspected---it's just a gloss. I have found over time that, while I am attracted to lip products with a good amount of silicones because they spread beautifully on the lips, the reality is that if you use them regularly the silicone can be very drying on the lips (hello Chantecaille!) so now I am more discriminating. Still searching for my perfect lipstick, so I'll keep watching for your recommendations. Thanks Lipstick Gal!
Amen. To pile on, I was influenced on YT to buy a couple of City Lips glosses…and they never arrived. I emailed and they said that they were out of stock (a fact never revealed on their site). After waiting 2 months…I asked for a refund…and now I’m waiting for that! Thank you for all that you do!
I feel like the City Lips gloss is a good formula. It's hydrating, and it lasts on the lips longer than any other gloss in my collection. My problem is the price and the claims. I was promised fuller lips after 30 days if I used it regularly, but I didn't experience that. It seemed like a way to get people to plow through a gloss and need another one quickly. Also the price is so much. 💸💸 It's a good gloss, but it wasn't life changing. At $35 a tube I don't "need" it. I'm always looking for comfort and ease with my lip products. It's very rare that I'll trade those two criteria for a high maintenance or uncomfortable lip product. I don't have time for that usually.
@@allisonbb716 I'm sorry you never received what you paid for. That's terrible. It's not a bad gloss, but it's not lip altering like they claim, and for the $35 price point I can't recommend it.
Hi Rebecca. Oh, how I luv your honesty. I was just reading a blog about reviewers raving & hyping products that just are not what they are cracked up to be. Luv your descriptiveness.
I only want to rave about what really works for me. I also think it's important to describe what I'm looking for in a product. That way, if we have a different preference, you know that it's not for you. Thanks so much for watching today!
I think it's very overhyped. It's not a bad gloss, but it's just that, a good gloss. The $35 price point is too much for a sticky, clear gloss. I like how it hydrates and stays put, but you have to like a sticky formula. I never had any increase in volume, and I wore the lip gloss daily for a month. I was always putting it on, and my lips looked the same after a month. It didn't work for me.
I can get it to work if I wipe out the corners of my mouth, and where my lips touch, but that's too much work. Then I have gloss on my fingers, and . . . yuck! I like how my lips looks so smooth, but I can't abide the stringing. It was a hard no for me.
Thank you for your honest reviews. I especially like to avoid any lip products that find their way to my finer lip lines and spread out as you mentioned with a few. I look forward to watching the next video on the best ones!
Thanks so much for watching today. I've really leaned into lip products this year, so I've got lots of faves. Friday's video should be chock full of favorites. ❤️❤️❤️
I agree with your assessment of the City Lips gloss - hydrating formula, but no plumping. That said, what do you recommend for hydrating and plumping?? Thank you for your fantastic videos!
I agree my least favorite I tried this year was the Revlon color stay suede lipstick, it went right in the garbage can. It dried my lips out it was terrible. Yikes
I tried this year one matte lipstick by Nabla, those in the white case that have been hyped..., It was drying on me like hell. And the glossy one was just ok. When it comes to pricey lipsticks I stick to LE, even more expensive than Nabla but they seem to work great for me and I use them with pleasure until the last piece of it. You know how many lipsticks I currently have? 2, kitten mischief and velvet blush, if I mix both I get a mauvey lip, so I can wear a nude, a plum and a mauve. I do not need anything else. From time to time I get a fuchsia or something punchy, catrice is my go to for that. It may sound weird but I am really pleased with only 2 lipsticks. I wish I could do the same with eyeshadow palettes. Have a great week❤
I love that you can cocktail products together to get your desired shade. I agree with you that LE makes the lipsticks I want to wear until the very bottom of the bullet. They're still my favorites. I"ve been curious about the Nabla Jelly lipstick. I haven't picked on up, but every time I see it, I have a little tug on my heart. It's described as the sort of product I would love. I wish Ulta stores still sold Catrice. I don't know why they stopped. I should just make a purchase from the Catrice website, but I frequently forget brands that I don't see in store. Obviously lipsticks and eyeshadow are my weakness. I have so much. That's ok, it brings me joy.
@@thelipstickgal you may like the nabla jelly, they are more moiturising than the kiko jelly. I am not a big lipstick lover, for a jelly finish I was ok with the kiko one and I bought it with a 30% discount so it was really cheap. But if you love that finish you may love the nabla one, maybe with a good discount is worth for you? I like some things from Catrice (some lipsticks, mascaras) or Essence (glosses are good) In Germany these brands are everywhere and are really cheap.
@@soniasobaro9127 I might be interested in getting it eventually. Right now, I'm pretty well set for lip products. I wish that Catrice was still available in store. 😔 I liked the quality and the affordability.
@@thelipstickgal did you look in their website if they are available in other stores in your city? Sometimes they end distribution contracts with some and initiate with others...
Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving an honest review of City Lips! Almost all of the other reviews by major UA-camrs are sponsored by them. The influencer swears they love it. Well it's a good clear gloss, so what's not to love but they wouldn't buy it over other clear glosses for $30 if they weren't getting it for free is what they leave out. It was very frustrating searching for reviews on that product.
It's not a bad product, but you can find a good gloss for much less. It's the claims (fuller lips in 30 days) and $35 price that make me unable to recommend it. I do like how it stays on for such a long time and that is nourishing. I don't think anyone would pay the price they're asking for a gloss that just did that. You can get great ones at less than half the price.
I would trade transfer proof for comfort any day. I just can’t do the dry stuff. On another topic, did you use lip liner with the products that feathered? Just curious if that would make a difference.
Yes, when products feather I pull out a lip liner. Most of these products were so emollient that they ate through my lip liner. 😬 I know that some formulas need a liner. I'm fine with that, but if a liner can't keep you in place or you advertise that the product won't creep, there's not much redemption. Thanks for watching today.
I love the Hourglass ones but did not like the Cover Girl oil glossy thing. My favorite was the Kaja Charm and the Charlotte Tilbury blur so much that I bought two of them. Oops. 💕🐾💕💜
Maybe the hourglass ones would be better in a different color. I was afraid to spend another $40+ after tax and not love the color. I liked how it felt on, but the hot pink was crazy on me.
Wow, I totally agree about Dior Forever. I was so excited because this lipstick got a lot of good reviews. I bought it, put it on and it didn't last for 2 hours. I tried using balm under it, but it doesn't work, I feel like I have cement on my lips, so dry, almost painful. I look at her in my bathroom all the time with sadness. As for Hourglass, there is something wrong with the formula for me. It's too buttery, almost melting. Every time the layer is so thick on my lips that I have to rub it out with my finger. I wanted to love her too, and theoretically she should be perfect, but I don't like her. I have in Flora shade.
I'm always especially disappointed when a luxury lipstick is a fail. It hurts my heart. I tried the Dior Forever Transferproof formula when it first released in fall 2022, and it was so drying. I got the red shade (999) and although I love the shade, I hate the way that it sticks to itself. I always find that I get a build up of product where my lips touch. I get a hard ridge of products that sticks to itself right at the center of my lips. It pulls all the color away, and builds up like a barrier. I'll end up with a bald patch in the middle, and drying prune looking lips after a few hours. It's just not worth it for me, especially at the $45 price point. I have struggled with the Hourglass lipstick too. It's such a shame because I like the shade so much before it turns pink.
I’m so sad to hear about Make’s lip mask! I love a ton of their stuff. I’ll just have to stick with my Laniege. Great video, you did a great job explaining the products!
You're getting more in the Laniege as well. I think that's important to keep in mind. Price per ounce. It's not a bad product, but not a lip sleeping mask.
Bad lip products break my lip stick loving heart, 😂! I also was mortified with the Dior Transfer proof formula. I got the 999 shade and two others (ADORE that red) but my lips literally hurt. I must say I LOVE the Merit Gelle lip oils - Marchino is gorgeous. I have them all except the sheer pink. I am sooooo glad you mentioned the City Lips. I’ve been hesitating getting it so bad as I thing if it more a a wonderful lip treatment - but also was turned off thinking it was too Hyped up
The pH adjusting products aren't for me. Every one turns my lips a crazy hot pink shade. Fuchsia. 😔 I'm so glad you like them and they work for you. Every pH lip product looks like a bad mood lipstick from the 80s on me. I love the shade 999 from Dior. I had that in the transfer proof formula, but it killed my lips. So drying and it also didn't stay on in the center. There's nothing I hate more than a bold lip that's missing color. After about an hour, I had a flesh toned ring of lip showing right in the middle where my lips touch. 😳 For the $45 price, I can't have that. City Lips are just a good gloss, but aren't worth the $35 price point. I also didn't see any improvement after 30 days. I need you to deliver on your claims or not make them at all.
@@thelipstickgal it’s funny because I did not know that the merit lip oils were pH adjusting at all. They don’t seem to do that crazy color on me which I’m glad for. The Dior lipstick in 999 did the same thing to me and I could not wear it looking like that, lol. It’s such a beautiful red color and when it’s patchy like that, and especially for that money, no way. It’s funny regarding the city lips, I don’t normally judge due to hype, but for some reason I just got a bad feeling about that. I’m not a total gloss person and really want a very good treatment not a clear gloss. I was tempted when they had that buy one get one and I’m glad I didn’t get it now. I hope you’re resting and that you’re having a beautiful week leading up to the holidays for you and your family my friend . Merry Christmas and happy new year. Here’s to healthy and pain-free 2024 for you.
Thanks so much Quincey. I hope for a better 2024. All the best to you as we head into the new year. Sounds like your body doesn't make a pH adjusting product turn fuchsia pink. You're lucky. I would love to wear the new Shade Slicks from Merit, but I can't handle the pH adjusting aspect to them. I love the Dior shade 999 so much that I picked up the Velvet Matte formula in that shade. I knew the Transferproof formula wasn't for me. The mauve one I picked up this year was a complete mistake. I should've returned it, but. . . time got away from me. I'm planning on a luxury lipstick video for early 2024. I've been buying lots of different formulas to try. I've purchased 2 Chanel lipsticks, and it's the first time I've purchased a Chanel lipstick in several decades. It's interesting to see how things have changed, and what's good. Thanks so much for telling me about how the YSL candy glaze wore in a bold color. I might have to grab a red shade. I love the Rouge Volupte Shine formula, but I'd love to have a bold shade in the Candy Glaze too.
I also was upset about the Revlon Colorstay Satin Ink 006 eyes on you and 001 your go to is the absolute perfect color but it stained my lips hot pink I was like what why how? Lol returned those and the Tarte maracuja ( I got the fig set) are beautiful colors but they just disappear in no time like where do they go 🤣🤦♀️ no telling how much lipstick I have ingested in my lifetime 🤣🤣🤣Nude Venus Pat McGrath lip gloss is just pink not muse at all 🙁 the lipstick I wear all the time one of my top favs! Same color 🤍🤍🤍 lovely to see you… you’re so sweet even when you dislike products 🤍🤍🤍🪴🪴🪴💚💚💚🎄🎄🎄
I try not to be too salty, but sometimes I can't help myself. I don't mind reapplying a lip product, but I need at least a hour or 90 minutes before it disappears and needs to be reapplied. That's why I didn't like the BP Lux Lipsticks. They completely disappeared in 20-30 minutes. NO! I really wanted to love the Revlon lipstick, but it reminded me so much of the Dior Transfer proof. I can't wear formulas like that. They make my lips look old and wrinkled, and they dry me out. NO! Thanks so much for watching today.
I didn't like the Yummy Gloss either. I have clear and i am trying to use it when at home. The Tarte cream lip isn't a favorite. I do love Juicy Lip. I really didn't buy anything new this year. I replaced some of my expensive lips sticks from Tom Ford and Valentino. I need to use what I have my lipstick drawer is overflowing. I have been doing some decluttering. Lipsticks are next on my list. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas ❌️ ⭕️
After purchasing over 100 lip products this year, I also need to do a declutter, but I don't have the heart for it right now. I wanted to love the Yummy Gloss. So many people do, but it just isn't for me. I know the type of gloss I prefer, and the CG isn't it. The Tarte Lip creme is ok, but for the $24 price, I'm not able to recommend it. It's not a bad lipstick, but it's just OK. There are drugstore lipsticks that cost less and are better. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones this season. Thanks so much for watching this year Lisa.
hi i can’t tell you how many times i have t a matte lip product matte lip product and me don’t get along i have learned my lesson so a few months ago i bought a flower beauty lipstick it was matte now i am sure flower beauty has great products but this was not good at all dry just 💄i t was one of the worst- happy holidays
I liked flower beauty's matte lipstick the first time I tried it a decade ago when it came out, but I'm not sure we'd get along any more. My lips have changed and I need more hydration now. It takes a special matte formula to impress me. One that's hydrating and doesn't make my lips look like a prune.
You aren't alone in your opinion of the Dior "Forever" lipstick. I have it in Cherie, and the color is lovely, but goodness it is drying and does not wear evenly. I know another creator I've watched has said the same thing. My worst lip products this year were probably the KVD Everlasting Liquid lipsticks. Right after application it leeches onto my front teeth and then it unsurprisingly but immediately begins to wear unevenly from the inside out. I got burned twice with this formula because they were on sale half off at Sephora and I bought two. FYI -- if you are looking for a good hydrating lip mask, I recommend Kiehl's. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much. I picked up one of the Dior Transfer proof lipsticks when they launched last fall. I got the shade 999. It's a bright red. Love the shade, but the formula and I didn't get along. The problem I had was that after about an hour, I had a spot right in the middle of my lips (where they touched) that didn't have any product on it. The lipstick started to stick to itself when I was talking, and built up a ring of product right on the edge of the lip where they touch. Then I was left with a bare patch right in the middle. It's so obvious with a bright color. It was also unforgivably drying. I picked this one up by accident. I thought I was getting one of the Dior Velvet Mattes. I do like the shade, but the formula is too much for my mature lips. I haven't tried the Kiehl's lip mask before. I've been sticking to the Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask and my trusty Balm Dotcom. When I'm in need of another one, I'll try it out. Thanks!
I love this kind of video. Lipstick is by far what I have the most of... and from which, I get the most disappointment. I take a lot of time deciding color, but once I love a formula, it feels safe. I have way too many glosses (need to declutter some) but recently I have been trying some drugstore lippies. 😒 I have not had a lot of luck. Revlon, too waxy, not enough color, elf... packaging feels cheap, and I just don't like the watered-down feel. I don't love Nars lipstick. 😮 but I haven't tried all the formulas. ❤
I'm really picky about my lip products. Up until the last 2-3 years, I haven't been a lip gloss kind of person. I used to prefer bullet lip products. Recently my preferences have changed. I still love a traditional lipstick, but I've been getting into more gloss and lip oil formulas this year. You'll notice that in Friday's video. It's the best lip products of 2023. I always struggle at the drugstore. It's hard for me to find formulas that I like. If I do find a formula that I like, I don't like the colors. I want a nuanced color, but those are hard to come by with affordable brands. Most of the colors are the same across the board. After falling in love with a luxury lipstick it's hard for me to want to try drugstore products. The experience is just lacking. I'll admit it, I'm a lipstick snob. I'm not a NARS girlie. I tried the brand again this year for the first time in nearly a decade. I started with the lip balms. The glossy one and the matte one. I prefer the glossy formula, but the matte one is nice if your lips are perfectly hydrated at the beginning of the day. I need to dive deeper into the brand, but it's been a while since NARS pulled me in. Thanks so much for watching today.
My big fail was the Makeup by Mario matte lipsticks...pricey and made me look much older. I even tried adding gloss to make them work...pretty colors but not for me and I don't have that many lip lines..lol. To the trash they go this year.
I hate having a product fail completely for me. I can always pass it along to one of my children, but there are very few that end up in the trash. I always hate it when that happens. I thought the Makeup by Mario lipsticks wouldn't work for me which is why I stick to his lip serum in the click up only packaging. Thanks for watching!
I'm disappointed in ALL of the glossy balms, such as the Maracuja, even the YSL Candy Glaze! Everyone has gone on about them being so moisturizing, but they actually make my lips more dry if I don't reapply frequently. They also can migrate easily into the lines at the corners of my mouth unless I'm very precise and heavy with lip liner application. They end up being high maintenance for me because of the careful lining I must do to keep them from migrating and the reapplication to keep my lips from drying out. I kept one YSL Candy Glaze, but that's it. I also ended up not liking and decluttering my Lisa Eldridge glosses for the same reason (shocking that I don't like a LE product!). I think I am going to stop buying glosses of any kind in 2024 and just stick to satin lipsticks. I think my favorite formula that I discovered this year (though it's not new) is the Armani Lip Power satin formula because they stay on longer and don't dry out my lips, though the color selection is problematic for me because most are too warm-toned.
I really like the Armani Lip Powers. They're such a great satin formula. I have one shade, but I want a few more. I struggle finding shades that I'll wear in the line because so many of the colors are either very nude (and peach leaning) or a bold Armani red. I have more red lipsticks than I know what to do with. It might be great to have one in that formula, but I need more red lipstick like I need another hole in my head! I'm a fan of the Candy Glaze. I know we all have different preferences and needs, but it's been such a favorite of mine over the last several months. I know a glossy lip/balm isn't for everyone. I tend to be in a season where it's exactly what I'm craving. This time last year I was on the hunt for a perfect matte lipstick. I kind of still am, but I've been distracted with lip oils, glosses, and shiny balms this year. I've never been a fan of the LE glosses. I have a problem with the applicator, and I always end up getting gloss outside my lip line when applying it. I just never reach for the 2 I have, and haven't purchased another one since they initially launched. I know it's not the sort of product I'm likely to wear. I am obsessed with Lisa's bullet lipsticks, and lip liners. I don't mind the velveteen lipsticks, but it's not my favorite formula from the brand. That's OK. It's good to know what type of lip product person I am. Thanks so much for watching today, and have a wonderful holiday season.
I know it's very popular. I like how it looks and feels on the lips, but it's so stringy on me. I need to apply the thinnest layer, and I never do. I'm a chronic over applier. I can't help myself.
Btw, RMS usually has great customer service. I ordered wrong shade in a product & they sent me a new one. Didn’t have to send back the incorrect shade. Liked that!
They might have been overwhelmed with emails, or mine got lost in the shuffle. I was disappointed that they never got back to me, but I still have ordered multiple times after the fact. I do like so many of their products, but they're not creating lip products for my preferences. I also think the $35 price point is a lot to ask where there are discrepancies in the formula.
Hi, love a worst format😅 so important to know what to avoid... from the ones you mention I only know the etude house and I did not like it either. Nothing about it really

City Lips..... It is a nice gloss, it is hydrating but it is NOT a plumper for me. It is not worth the price. Most drug store glosses will do the same thing. Try Milani Plumping gloss for 1/3rd the price.
Yes, it's not a favorite of mine. I feel like it's over hyped. It's just a gloss. It's great at hydrating, but so are lots of other things. 🤷♀️ Too expensive. 💸

I love your reviews , I like the City Lips glosses but they are overhyped and overpriced, this is coming from someone that gets PR from them and has an affiliate code. Honesty above all else.
Yes, honesty above all else. They're a good formula. I'm sure the colored glosses are nice, but I've never had "results" other than hydration from the formula. They don't decrease my lip lines or plump my lips. the $35 price point for one gloss is a lot. I know there are more affordable and just as good glosses out there. If I had the gloss deliver on the smoothing of lip lines and wrinkles as well as the plumping claim, I'd be shouting from the rooftops. It's not a bad gloss, but certainly over hyped. I can get hydration from other places that aren't $35.
I’m glad I found someone who hates the random hot pink after party as much as me 😅 I’ve moved to brown based reds and deeps red just so I 100% know I’ll never end up with pink lips. Maybe it’s an olive skin tone thing, but hot pinks make me look like a clown
I'm not a fan of the hot pink stain, but I hate it in pH adjusting products. No! I don't mind it as much in a red lipstick, but only if the lipstick is pigmented enough to cover the red stain. My problem with the Hourglass lipstick was that it turned my lips hot pink, but then the lipstick wasn't pigmented enough to cover up the pink. If I wanted a magenta lipstick, I would've purchased a magenta lipstick. I purchased a pink leaning mauve lipstick that turns bright pink, and looks crazy on. Not what I was going for especially at the $38 price point. Thanks so much for watching today.

I don't get much into plumping formulas. It's not something that I'm always looking for. Someone else might have a better perspective than I do.
I agree my least favorite I tried this year was the Revlon color stay suede lipstick, it went right in the garbage can. It dried my lips out it was terrible. Yikes
I had high hopes for it, but it wasn't very good. I was so sad. It's just not the type of product I like. Thanks for watching today.
@@soniasobaro9127 no I haven't, but I will. Thanks for telling me to check the website!
@@thelipstickgal exactly!
I ordered a set of the Tarte Juicy lips from QVC. No pigment at all. I may as well have been using Vaseline on my lips. I returned them.
I like the juicy lips, but it depends on the shade. Some are better than others, but it's a gloss in stick form. Very sheer.
I love the Yummy gloss !
I know it's very popular. I like how it looks and feels on the lips, but it's so stringy on me. I need to apply the thinnest layer, and I never do. I'm a chronic over applier. I can't help myself.
@@thelipstickgal yes it is thick but I notice that a small amount is perfect and it’s so cushiony somehow.
if I could only apply a small amount. I do like it, but I know myself. I put on too much. With almost every formula. : (
Btw, RMS usually has great customer service.
Nothing about it really
the Etude House just isn't for me. I couldn't even get one of my kids to take it. The idea is good, but the reality isn't.
