I purchased just because of your video, but all the other countless videos all seem to love it. I really like the Sound you got for the Have a Cigar solo on the video. This is my first multi effects pedal. as I have a Positive Grid, but am looking into a 5 Watt Hiwatt Combo, and a couple pedals, and it was between this and the new Darkside of the Moon Pedal by Keeley for Gilmour sound, which I'm sure I will get someday. I'm hoping it lives up to all the reviews I've read and what I've heard. I do have a strat with the SSL5's on the neck and bridge pickup, so I'm sure that helps. I'm hoping to find a good setting on my Positive Grid to use the pedal, any suggestions welcome, I did see the settings in the video also for the Pedal.
For those of us who use TC Flashback delays (both gen 1 and gen 2), Andy Martin (Andy from Pro Guitar Shop) uploaded a bunch of old TC delay effects on the TonePrint app. One of which is an emulation of a Binson Echorec 2.
I was so impressed with how accurate (to my ears) this pedal sounded with that Laney amp that I bought both the pedal and the Laney Super Cub 12. With that 1 watt input, it's got a great volume for a small room. Very happy with how that worked out. Thanks for demo'ing the pedal!
I bought this pedal couple weeks ago and its simply amazing ! I love the Hi Power side of it 🎵🤘! This video really convinced me into buying it lol haha
I got this pedal like a week ago, can't stop playing with it. Best OD pedal I've ever had, and I've had a few. Impressive versatility, you can use it as regular OD, as a preamp if you're ampless. Impressive tones from low to high gain, full EQ functionality, headroom adjustment, huge volume boost if you need it. Can recreate any classic tone you want regardless if you're playing at low or high volume, regardless of what amp you plug in (with bad EQ, no EQ or whatever). The colorsound section is really powerful. The amp section is phenomenal, just improves and rounds off any distortion you run before it. I've replaced a Fulltone Full-Drive 2 mosfet with this and apart from being able to recreate those tones, it's opened up a shitload of further possibilities. I would pair together with a BD-2 (BD-2W not necessary as you can round it off with the hi-power) or a good TS clone before it, like the JAM Tubedreamer depending on your amp, and you can play 95% of rock tones ever written. Add a traditional fuzz for those super deep fuzz tones (the lighter ones the hi-power can recreate) and you go to 100%. I'd also add after it another clean boost with mids EQ (e.g. TC Spark or something similar) for added versatility in jumping between tones. At the same time it has a small footprint, width is only like 4 inches.
Great video! This pedal sounded great in these tunes! I think that for the 'Gdansk' sound you'll need a compressor before the muff, it can pushes some gain and cuts some harsh frequencies, and make the muff sound better.
I’ve had this pedal for a few weeks and I LOVE it!! It’s one of my top 3 pedal purchases. I’ve always wanted a vintage DR103 but never had $4,000 plus to throw down and could never quite nail the tone with other amps and modelers. Might buy 2-3 more of these to have easy switching at different settings. Does the Gilmour & Townsend thing extremely well and more!
You do the best Gilmour covers I have ever heard. Are you in a Floyd cover band? With that talent, you should be. Thank you for the tutorials. Got my HiPower today and I’m very excited.
Sorry I keep posting but OMFG.....It sounds just like the album/studio tones .... I'm more cooked about this pedal now than ever. Wonder what the sound is like with the DG20 setup (EMGs).
I recorded with EMG's at the last part. I'm very, very impressed with EMG sounds as well. Especially on neck, it sounds very close to 2006 Gdansk Shine On EMG sound.
Mustafa what are you doing to me my friend bought lots of pedals on your recommendation, now I have to sneak this pedal in to my setup, just ordered it today lol
Would love to see this pedal working with Keeley's Dark Side Pedal in tandem. Very curious to see the best order and techniques to yank the best Gilmour sounds! NOW,.. that would be amazing as they offer to different approaches covering two different areas yet some of the same. If you ever try that,... please let me know. I've had the Dark Side for a year now and it's fantastic but that Hi-Watt sound and drive!
The Cub is a killer amp. I gave it to my little nephew as he was starting to learn to play guitar. I recently found out that they just shoved it in storage. I don't wanna be an a-hole, but Id love to have it back and use it as a practice amp now.😅
Hot damn I never knew that, I knew that Roger played rhythm on Pigs but not for Sheep. Searched it up and you are right, but Gilmour is also credited for lead on Sheep but seeing as most of it is just rhythm, I wonder who wrote what part of it? Also great job to Waters on part of the Rhythm as it is some fine work
That is a good idea that I considered as well before I fiddled with the left side. But I'll be using the left side very often now that I heard it, so I would get this version even if there was an only Power Boost pedal.
If you've improvised this, you're actually the next Gilmour. Okay, I hear some licks in there Gilmour played on serval versions of ABITW on the Division Bell tour, not just the Earl's Court recording, but if you came up with all of the other stuff around it, that's really awesome!! :O The phrasing, the bends, the SOUND; etc. Everything's Gilmour about it and hey... also Gilmour repeated some of his previously improvised stuff on TDB tour, I noticed. :) Great job! Now, my alltime favourite Gilmour sound is the sound he got on the A Momentary Lapse Of Reason tour. He used Mesa/Boogie Mark series amps as an "expensive" overdrive going into the power end of his Hiwatts. You'd immediately recognize the "Boogie" sound if you'd listen to Pink Floyd Live In Venice 1989 or the Delicate Sound Of Thunder release. I love all of Gilmour's sounds, but I really miss the sound he got on that tour and nobody talks about it. It's always "Pulse, Pulse, Pulse", haha. Maybe Crazy Tube Circuits could also create a pedal that mimics that main overdrive section: a Big Muff/Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal into a Mesa/Boogie Mark type circuit, all in one pedal. That'd be great!! I've never EVER heard a pedal that sounded like an actual Boogie Mark series amp, not even from the pedals Boogie makes themselves. Hearing the above makes me wanna think that CTC can actually make it happen. The Hi-Power pedal sounds INCREDIBLE!!
I agree delicate sound of thunder is some of his greatest tones ever. I've always wondered how a mesa boogie style preamp pedal such as the Mooer cali pedal would sound replicating that kind of overdrive.
Crazy Tube Circuits make amazing pedals! I have the Super Conductor boost and the Constellation Fuzz. Unfortunately I won't be getting this one, at least in the foreseeable future 😂.
It would be better into the fx loop, if it doesn't have one then clean channel. If it has a fender blackface TMB tone stack like the twin, princeton or deluxe then bass and treble at 0 is a flat eq
I have an fx loop that I have never used. I use it straight like an overdrive, maybe there are better ways to do it but I'm very happy with the outcome. I'll try DI recording and using the left side as an amp. Pedal offers so much and I want to try everything it offers :)
@@mustyguitar I am really curious and looking forward to it! As you know I am mostly going direct when recording... Via CrazyTubeCircuits HI-POWER manual: "AMP section does not feature a speaker simulation circuit. It is intended to use as a preamp or overdrive pedal with another amp/speaker cabinet. We recommend using a separate speaker simulation device when going direct."
If I'm running into a WEM Fane IR, not an Amp/Cab, should my Hi-Power be going into the Flashback & RT-20 then IR? Or does Flashback go into Hi-Power? Glad you got the Hi-Power, I've been waiting for your video on it. ;)
my guess would be flashback in effects loop of hipower then ir then rt20 because gilmour's rotarys where cabs mixed in after everything. (for gilmour tone)
There's send/return option on the pedal, I haven't tried it. I haven't even tried DI recording and using the Hiwatt side as amp. But I'll be experimenting with the pedal more and more.
Regarding the power boost stage of this pedal, as you stated on the video that most overdrives lacks something.. it got me wondering what does the past fx power boost lacks that this hi power doesn’t??
It would be interesting to see you stacking this pedal along with your Jam Phase Germanium Fuzz, in order to know how well or not they interect with each other. Would you consider this ? Thx
Man those licks are fkn awesome i thought i was listening to Dave himself especially up to the 10 min or so mark on the video sounding more Dave than Dave himself the playing is so good it must've taken many hours of practice to get to that level & if they're ever searching for someone to play Dave in a movie or to emulate his sound then look no further i say you're the one supreme guitar playing
Hi Mustafa. You’ve really gotten inside the style, tones, and phrasing of David Gilmour! I am sooooo envious of your ease at nailing his playing, while at the same time respecting the level of hard work and commitment it took on your part, to reach this level of mastery. I hope to someday do the same. Between your and Bjorn’s (Gilmourish) reviews on this HiPower pedal, I bought it and it just arrived. I’m sorry to put you on the spot but, I have a question I’d really like to ask you: The tones you were getting in your reviews last year of the Pastfx pedals (TD-Y, Revolution, ColorSound), I think that they were the closest tones I’ve heard to the recorded songs, and was wondering how you feel they compare with the HiPower?
Thank you for your kind words Lee, So all of these pedal serve different purposes actually. colorsound is for 70's, td-y for tube driver, revolution for g-2 sounds and this, hi-power for again, 70's sounds mostly. I try to get all the tones from each pedal but in the end, a colorsound powerboost clone will sound best for colorsound powerboost tones and tube driver clone will sound best for tube driver. It wouldn't be logical to compare td-y or hi-power or revolution because all of these sound different. Honestly, there's no better tube driver clone out there than td-y probably. I think my favorite g-2 clone is custom fuzz from devtech audio but revolution is a great g-2 pedal too and it can sound extremely good for tube driver tones too, on low gains. The only comparison we can do is pastfx colorsound and hi-power. in terms of colorsound tone, they are very close but both have ups and downs. I would have hi-power in my pedalboard but not because it's "better" per se. It's a bit thicker, it has more feature on it, it's got hiwatt simulator which I use a lot with my other pedals. but hi-power is the exact clone of the colorsound, so it has that last %5 fuzz thing on it that's really annoying but, that's the colorsound pedal :D pastfx have mild or hot modes, gain is diversified all over the knob, it's on a smaller enclosure... What YOU want is more important than what anyone else says. I can't lead anyone on to any pedal. I'm not affiliated with ANY brand, I don't get paid, I only want to get Gilmour sounds out of them so anyone who wants to get the pedal or already has can learn my 2 cents. Maybe this will help you though: I wouldn't get pastfx colorsound if I had hi-power, but I'd still get hi-power if I had pastfx colorsound because hi-power. As for the revolution or td-y. I don't use them often because my favorite tones are mostly from 70s, but for tube driver, td-y is no brainer. revolution is insanely versatile, I get great hendrix tones with it too.
Let's say I want only 3 pedals. Two of them would be the Keeley DarkSide and this CTC Hiwatt, what would be the best drive pedal to stack with the CTC? Thanks very much for your awesome work 👍
I think you should get delay pedal for the third one. without a doubt. IF you have delay, I'd get blues driver bd-2. in front of hi-power. sounds perfect!
@@mustyguitar Thanks ! Well to be honest that is exactly what I want to do, the Providence Chrono Delay in last position. I'm trying to figure out a 5 pedalboard configuration and it's so hard to make up my mind, so much options 🤯
thanks ! can i ask you an advise? i really love the keeley dark side demo you've made and the great sounds it can produce. i know they're different pedals but I can't afford them both so which one do you think will be the more versatile in terms of gilmour boost/OD/distortion sounds ? (i think the hi power but do you think I'll be able to get Animals and final cut sounds with the BD and a russian big muff i already own?) i'm not very interested in the modulations the keeley offers. if you could help me with this choice that'll be too kind. all best
@@robertogiangrande6163 dude you already got the most versatile big muff! don't even think about it. green russian can of course cover animals tones. it would get you pretty close and you only need ram's head or something else for that last %5 tone. don't even think about it! get hi-power and you're all set!
Great review. Following your recommendations, a few months ago I bought the past fx power boost, so if I may ask how would you compare the power boost circuit of theses two?
They are quite similar, I've done A/B test, the great thing about PastFx is that there's a mild switch, you get the same gritty, fat sound and sustain but you can play cleaner stuff easier. With this one, you need to find the right setting on the knob for some cleaner stuff because the last %5 of the gain is extremely sensitive. I believe this pedal to be the closer to power boost Gilmour uses but with that annoying %5 problem xD Though, it's not a problem for me, I absolutely love that this has the same authenticity. If you're ALSO looking for hiwatt sound, this will be a good addition, but PastFx would do about the same job!
@@fenderp63 they can cover similar eras. Hi-power will get you OVERDRIVE tones from the 70's and actually can cover later stuff too as you can hear from the video, dark side can cover BIG MUFF tones, almost all of them, can do a bit fuzz too. both are needed for certain stuff, one can only try to cover the other one, never fully replace. I'd get hi-power and a skreddy p19 and a delay.
@@mustyguitar Thanks, I was leaning that way. Now the hard part is finding one in the US. None of the larger shops have them, and the smaller shops seem to all be sold out.
Wow you weren't kidding. A lot of these tones sound better than the actual studio albums imo. I like the Irish Racing Green color of the pedal as well.
Hi!!! I just buy a hi power after ser your video. My unir is extremly noise if you out power booster section with the gañí at Max level. Is normal or my unir have a peoblen? ( I try with diferente power suplies, amps, guitars, cables)
Hey Jose, it's not a "problem". It's the way the gain pedals work. Powerboost is a 3 transistor, very high gain overdrive pedal. It would be correct to say it's a fuzz actually.
@@mustyguitar thanks. I have some vintage fuzzes (tonebenders, zonk, buzzaround, etc) but they have less noise I go to continúe trying the pedal, amp section is awsome 😃
Hi Musty, great Sound, youre a beast! I‘ve two questions: Which Kind of laney amp do you use? Does the pedal work well with a clean Tube amp like Vox AC15HWX?
Thank you! I'm using Laney Cub 12r, it's fully clean I think it will work with any amp, since it has a hiwatt side and mid control. The right side only however, I'm not sure how it would react.
Your recording is sometimes a bit distorted on the highs, I can hear it in the beginning of this video when you talk, but I've also heard it on the guitar in some of your previous videos.
Hi Mustafa, what a coincidence !!! Today I did some research on this pedal and you released a video on it. Should I take this as a sign? Is it reasonable to order it right away? 😂
Hi, what pedal and amp would you recommend for this guitar sound from 3.29 onwards? ua-cam.com/video/A_uTbNk_a28/v-deo.htmlsi=EyTDxTwU3U7B716r? Sorry for all the questions 😊. Thanks
there's a wah pedal on one of my turns, it's like the only pink floyd song with one lol, maybe there's a few early ones (echoes doesn't count) actually, I kind of suspect he used a wah during the funky part of echoes to get the feedback, I need to restring my guitar to check though
Picked up one of these recently and I have to say I'm disappointed. Low notes all fade out with a sputtery, farty sound -- kind of low but audible. Sounds like a bad transistor to me. I made an audio clip with several examples and sent to CTC but he said he wanted to hear it in person so send it in... to Greece. Not paying for all that. I guess I'm returning mine. The other issue is that this pedal blows any semblance of gain structure out of the water. Emulating Musty's settings in the video, when you turn the pedal on, it jumps like 20dB. The masters (on both sides) have to be turned way way down to match gains -- and when you do that you lose those magic tones. So without leaving this on all the time, I don't see how it would be possible to use it live. I'm not a live guy but not being able to gain match pedals to some degree kind of drives me crazy... Having said all that, the sounds are pretty good. In some cases, I can get really close to what I'm hearing on the video. In others, not so much. Not ruling out a defective pedal. I'm going to look into some other ODs, perhaps The Engine or PastFX. It's a shame because I've been chasing Hi Watt tones for many years. I have a WIIO and it does Townshend quite well, but I can't wring the Gilmour out of it. BTW for all this I've been playing a Squier Strat with SSL5 bridge pickup, amp mainly Egnater Rebel 20 on a clean-ish setting.
What's funny is David didn't need this pedal at all and used jut amps and some pedals...but no pedal will recreate his tone because the variables are too numerous, one main one being his playing style.
"David didn't need this pedal at all" Are you conscious how stupid this comment is ? I mean, it's just so.... well don't mind, I wonder if it's worth asking 🤣
you hate crazy tube circuits? well then I hate YOU XD joking of course man but now I gotta buy this pedal 🥲 man WHAT A SOUND on that have a cigar intro...

Thx
SEI UN GRANDE BRAVISSIMO 🙏🙏🙏
Man those licks are fkn awesome i thought i was listening to Dave himself especially up to the 10 min or so mark on the video sounding more Dave than Dave himself the playing is so good it must've taken many hours of practice to get to that level & if they're ever searching for someone to play Dave in a movie or to emulate his sound then look no further i say you're the one supreme guitar playing
So are we looking at the actual pedal settings or no?
Awesome!
Thank you for your kind words Lee,
So all of these pedal serve different purposes actually. colorsound is for 70's, td-y for tube driver, revolution for g-2 sounds and this, hi-power for again, 70's sounds mostly.
I don't use them often because my favorite tones are mostly from 70s, but for tube driver, td-y is no brainer. revolution is insanely versatile, I get great hendrix tones with it too.
ok seriously dude stop already im spending fortunes on boutique pedals cos of you lol.great reviews btw
Mustafa eline saglik. 4:43'teki bolum hangi sarkiya ait?
teşekkürler, atom heart mother'ın funky kısmı ama ben farklı çaldım çünkü albümde yavaş akıyor
What model of Laney amp are you using? Best amp for this sound? I have Fender twin copy...Lanley better? Thanks
Its on my way...sold the pastfx powerboost instead..... i hope its good my friend 🎸🎸🎸
Will be great to hear you cover Comfortably Numb with this pedal
This is an overdrive pedal, Gilmour used a big muff for comfortably numb so it wouldn't be quite right to cover it with this pedal :)
Buying one today. Sold!
¡ Hola ! Grandes los videos !!! Pregunta : mejor cabezal Laney 12 ó hiwatt t40 serie
Hiwatt is going to crush this comparison but it’s a ton of more volume to deal with
i just got it its def hiwatt vibes now i tamed my gas a bit dont have to order an amp head
I scrolled to where I heard some demo playing and I think you have too much gain and treble at 2:39 to 4:00 in the Shine On lead.
To each is own I guess, I can’t be the first guy to want different sounds
You could have gotten there sooner with the Kernom Ridge Overdrive, man.
But this one is really good too.
Huge video, best video review !! Thank you!
one of the best pedal demo i've ever seen! do you think I can get those sounds with a fender amp
thanks! Probably, I don't see why not.
thanks ! can i ask you an advise? i really love the keeley dark side demo you've made and the great sounds it can produce. i know they're different pedals but I can't afford them both so which one do you think will be the more versatile in terms of gilmour boost/OD/distortion sounds ? (i think the hi power but do you think I'll be able to get Animals and final cut sounds with the BD and a russian big muff i already own?) i'm not very interested in the modulations the keeley offers. if you could help me with this choice that'll be too kind. all best
@@robertogiangrande6163 dude you already got the most versatile big muff! don't even think about it. green russian can of course cover animals tones. it would get you pretty close and you only need ram's head or something else for that last %5 tone. don't even think about it! get hi-power and you're all set!
@@mustyguitar thank you! i'm gonna get one. can't wait to give it a try! kindly
@@robertogiangrande6163already have it?
damn dude no joke that pedal is a beast
Where is the best place for this pedal in the pedal chain...thanks a lot 👍
Wherever you want man! I use it right before my modulations because I want to use hiwatt side after all my drive pedals
I get all those tones from my zoom g2. 😀🎸🎸
@mustyguitar How about a vid with the Hi Power vs the Keeley Dark Side? I'd like one pedal to cover Meddle thru WYWH tones.
They are both different types of pedals. It’s not logical to compare them
@@mustyguitar Fair enough. Which one for covering that era, then?
Now you need to go steals Gilmour hands, brain and soul and you’re on your way! 😅
@crazytubecircuit keep doing (non conventional, what players wants) stuff that is missing in this golden age of pedals
Is the Hi Power powerbooster side as good as Past FX Powerbooster? Just curious because i just ordered the Hi Power and already have the Past Fx.
They are very similar, but hi-power is closer to Gilmour’s power boost because of that last %5 fuzz edge. I use Hi-power these days mostly
Wow you weren't kidding. A lot of these tones sound better than the actual studio albums imo. I like the Irish Racing Green color of the pedal as well.
I guess green is the colour of our kind cause the color hooked me
Pity you can’t have any colour you like.
Hola 👋 que modelo de amplificador Laney usas ? Gracias 👍
It’s Laney cub 12r
@@mustyguitar tiene sonido limpio o siempre rompe un poco?? Sonido limpio para sumarle una distorsión apagar y tener limpio sonido
Do you place it just after your compressor ?
No, its right before my modulation pedals
I have some vintage fuzzes (tonebenders, zonk, buzzaround, etc) but they have less noise
I go to continúe trying the pedal, amp section is awsome 😃
Hi Musty,
great Sound, youre a beast!
I‘ve two questions:
Which Kind of laney amp do you use?
Does the pedal work well with a clean Tube amp like Vox AC15HWX?
Thank you! I'm using Laney Cub 12r, it's fully clean
I think it will work with any amp, since it has a hiwatt side and mid control. The right side only however, I'm not sure how it would react.
Your recording is sometimes a bit distorted on the highs, I can hear it in the beginning of this video when you talk, but I've also heard it on the guitar in some of your previous videos.
This or the tech21 english muffy ?
I don't know that one but it doesn't look like it's gonna do the job. this one for sure.
Unrelated question, but what brand is your guitar strap and where did you get it?
I don’t know, milady got it for me
I’m gonna need another vid of you with your preferred pedal board or something, because damn it, I got decision paralysis…..
This Sunday, I’m assembling my pedalboard, but I’ll do ANOTHER Pink Floyd and Gilmour pedalboard too
Are those stock images, or are they your settings?
They are the settings I use.
@@mustyguitar Thank you. I did try them but through my setup it was overly bright.
@@CrazedFandango Yeah it's only natural, these are guidelines.
What Laney amp is that?
laney cub 12r
Hi Mustafa, what a coincidence !!!
Today I did some research on this pedal and you released a video on it. Should I take this as a sign?
Is it reasonable to order it right away? 😂
Hey Eric, I missed this comment, honestly, I can’t think of a pedalboard without this pedal :))
Hi, what pedal and amp would you recommend for this guitar sound from 3.29 onwards? ua-cam.com/video/A_uTbNk_a28/v-deo.htmlsi=EyTDxTwU3U7B716r? Sorry for all the questions 😊. Thanks
I prefer my Keely Darkside v2
Review coming next week Wednesday but they are both totally different pedals, one is overdrive, other one is big muff
@@mustyguitar true. And the darkside is both modulation and fuzz.
Why is this better than the Keeley Dark Side pedal???
It’s not better than that, they are different types of pedals. This is overdrive and that is a big muff
there's a wah pedal on one of my turns, it's like the only pink floyd song with one lol, maybe there's a few early ones (echoes doesn't count)
actually, I kind of suspect he used a wah during the funky part of echoes to get the feedback, I need to restring my guitar to check though
there's a wah on the rhythm part, not on the solo
yeah you're right, my bad. I havn't listened to it in a while@@mustyguitar
Wah wah can be heard on the Obscured by Clouds LP. Listen carefully . It is there!
The ultimate…😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What’s so funny about that?
@@mustyguitar the bullshits you say in the video
@@davidleerotharmy get the f*ck off of my channel then David, why are you here?
@@mustyguitar hey…Gilmour wouldn't talk like that…😂
What's funny is David didn't need this pedal at all and used jut amps and some pedals...but no pedal will recreate his tone because the variables are too numerous, one main one being his playing style.
"David didn't need this pedal at all"
Are you conscious how stupid this comment is ? I mean, it's just so.... well don't mind, I wonder if it's worth asking 🤣
Why bother
Too much distorton. Fail.
???? Sounds poor to me?
Thats not right, those sheep triads are off. Youve overcomplicated them
You're right but it's way more important.
Lol
Should have gotten a guitar player to demo…..
WTF?
To me, it does not sound good.
Good pedal ... meanwhile playing is not precise..lacks the feel
Is it better/closer to Dave's sound in your opinion than the PastFX? @mustyguitar
you hate crazy tube circuits? well then I hate YOU XD joking of course man but now I gotta buy this pedal 🥲
man WHAT A SOUND on that have a cigar intro...
