But while the limelight largely focuses on Wemby, another star is rapidly rising in the Spurs’ ranks.
146 million US dollars. That is what the San Antonio top brass agreed to pay for the services of 22-year old NBA starlet Devin Vassell to keep him with the Spurs till 2027. But only a couple of years ago, Devin was an unknown high-schooler who was hardly given a second look by NBA recruiters.

The fact that he is in Wemby's shadow can be a huge advantage too, as he has less pressure on his shoulders
Devin HAS been a star for a while. He was injured and sat out last year so they could tank effectively, and since then he has been on fire. Yeah he's not 100% consistent YET. But he's 23 years old entering his prime and he will get better as he's working with KD in the off season
I’m sorry I gotta shoot this down though. He has not been a star and still isn’t now. He’s on arguably the worst team in the nba he’s not scoring 20 a game if he was on like any other team in the league

First off the Spurs are no where near the worst team in the league. Second of all, he scores more in other teams. But in the Spurs he plays a team game where he gets virtually 0 iso plays called for him. He is a developing star and if you can't see that, then just watch the games and tell me why teams can't stop him when he gets going, oh he's also just 23 years old so he just getting started@@jaggeragnew

Vassel, Sochan, and Wemby are the foundation of this team, add 2 good players in the other positions and spurs are solid
His progression this years has been awesome to watch, this young team will cause trouble in couple of years if they can add couple of good guys.

That 2020 draft class got some legit ballers and Devin is top 5 in that class. And Devin missed an entire season to injury. His trajectory is on par with ant edwards, maxey and haliburton etc...
Devin left fsu after his sophomore year. It takes two seconds to find that out. Also he doesn’t guard the opposing teams best perimeter player every game, that would be sochan.
Part of the reason he doesn't guard the best perimeter defender is because they want him to save his energy for the offense where they depend on his shot creation
prime vassel sochan and wemby with other great players is going to be amazing to watch, many chips are coming.
He will be a super star and lead Spurs Championship with Wemby

Spurs are becoming a force to be reckoned with in the future. Wemby as the next great spurs center, then we got vassell who is a big threat from mid to long range, sochan as the next rodman and KJ who can be a 6MOTY contender scoring threat of the bench. If they stay healthy, another spurs dynasty incoming
DEVIN is on his way to be a super star .perfect spur.
The money is actually amazing. He’s not making 30 mil a year during his extension and is scoring near 20 ppg on 37% from 3. That is what we call good business
Crazy devin has an elite mid range game and I haven’t seen him use it all that much this season like he did in 2022-2023 season don’t believe me search up his mid range highlights from last year he has that penny hardaway spin fake down…👀

he should be grateful that he was overshadowed by Wemby coz he will not carry the weight/pressure of expectations on his shoulders.
What do I think? The Spurs would have beat the Warriors today (4 straight) if Vassell had played. Just an opinion.

he still takes some really bad shots though, and does a lot of ball watching from the 3pt line on offense most games, far from a star yet and very overpaid atm... lets hope he grows or he'll be another murray pretty much.
