  • Part three is all about getting the fuselage seams dealt with, scribing, replacing rivets, fitting panels to the tail area and then getting stuck into the undercarriage and working on the sponsons. If you would like to contribute to the channel.. please look here.. / nigelsmodellingbench

    Nigel, you are having fun with the instructions. At times, it's just funny😅😅😂

    Have this kit. Was hoping for better production/engineering of sprue connection points, etc.
    Your output of videos is phenomenal. Thank you for your meaningful content.

    Hi Nigel, the AH 64 is coming along nicely, you don't let and issue get you down, well not on your videos, nice work as per normal, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍

    In this day and age with the price we pay for these kits you would think the manufacturer would get it right. I would have put this back in the box by now 🤣🤣

      I agree 100%, kits these days should fit almost perfectly, I know the moulding process will always leave small issues, but the kits should have better fitting, we are not in the 60's now, bests regards from Australia.

    Coming along beautiful Nigel, quick progress on this one. Even at 1/35 it's an impression size. Well done

    Great video and tips! As always you're the best. Nigel, can you remind us what those clamps are (the red friction F-clamps) and where you got them from? I know you have shared that in previous videos, but can't find where you shared that information. Thanks Nigel!!

    You would have thought for the price these little issues would have been picked up, did they ever build there own model after they created it

    Great video series Nigel am learning alot about this kit, I have the D kit on order, is it me or does it look like they rushed the instruction plans to meet launch date, keep up the great work mate.

    Nigel, I'm a little worried about the fragility of the tail rotor shaft. I thought I remembered you saying something about putting something over it to protect it from being broken.

      It actually gets a support later in the manual Tron. Takom should have added this support much earlier.

    where did you get those red clamps from, Nigel?

    Nigel, I'm curious as to how one should decide to bin a kit that one has invested time in. What are the criteria you would use to reach that decision? Clearly the Takom Apache has some serious flaws; could it be a candidate for binning, and, if so, what would be the key factors in its case to cause the launch into the trash?

      Hi Tron, this kit is nowhere near the binning stage... it is actually quite enjoyable to build kits like this.

    I'm not one for nit picking, but have you thought that there may be an engineering issue that stop sprue tabs from being located in certain areas? You keep on saying "not very well designed" etc and that may not be the case at all. You're a modeller, not a click builder. I understand that you were also an engineer and have a point of opinion, but I'm also an engineer and always believe there may be a reason things can't be achieved.

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  Рік тому +1

      I have been involved in mold tool design in my engineering life, and I fully understand the restrictions in molding with regard to flow, cold fronts and filling. I see no reason why the sprue connector needs to run onto the front face of the part when it could easily go onto the back. if the edge of the part has a stepped shape, make a solid area where the tab is and put a relief in the mating part? Takom are the only company that do this so there must be another way.

    • @geordie_mech
      @geordie_mech Рік тому

      @NigelsModellingBench I'm aware of that as I mentioned in my previous comment. The point I'm making is that just because you can't see a reason why, doesn't mean that the actual designers haven't looked. You can't keep knocking the staff these companies employ. They may watch your videos and think 'oh yeah, we could have done that....' however, they may also watch and think the complete opposite. I like watching your videos mate, I really do, but I don't like the jibes at the engineers.

      I'm sorry, but if I think something is poorly designed, engineered or made I'm gonna say so. There are plenty of you tubers out there who say everything is wonderful, but that's not me. Takom have been doing this sprue gate thing for years.. no one else does??

    • @geordie_mech
      @geordie_mech Рік тому

      @NigelsModellingBench I totally understand where you're coming from, but mate. This kit is absolutely stunning. We're seeing things modelled more accurately than ever before. Even the hinge points are a masterclass in scale engineering. There are reasons for everything, and I'll iterate my point again. There may be reasons why SOME of the sprue tabs are placed where they are. They aren't producing Bentley's, it's a model kit for SKILLED modellers to model, and you are one of those. Maybe others don't go on about it because is not an issue?

      @gunman479 Рік тому +2

      The kit costs almost £100, making it quite expensive. Consequently, it is unacceptable for sprue connectors to overlap detailed parts. I am glad that Nigel is vocalizing his concerns. He is an absolute gem for doing so. This hobby requires more people like him. Ultimately, if the engineers were to consider his criticisms, they'd be able to create significantly improved products in the future.
