  • In part 2 we get the cockpit together and painted , using the Red Fox set, make some seatbelts from an old Eduard set, fit the tail rotor spindle and get the fuselage halves together with the main rotor head and cockpit installed. An there is no painting guide, specially needed at the cockpit and the engines. How did you decided the actual colors, for example the green inside the rotor section?

Looks to me like the tail rotor issue is the exact same thing as what Kitty Hawk did with their MH-60L Black Hawk helicopter....
I think that I'm going to put something in the interior of the rotor shaft to hold it stable so it will continue to rotate..

As it happens, there is an assembly that goes over the shaft and supports it. Takom should have put this step in earlier.

I flew several helicopters in the US Army and never had the chance to fly the Apache but I can tell you...the cockpits are all flat black, some grey and some green. That's it...helps with finding dials and stuff when flying (plus no reflections on the canopies). In your experience, who do you think makes the best 3D decal sets? Do you find one brand better suited for your building techniques or is it a case-by-case thing based on the model/scale/etc?

red fox makes the sturdiest, but quinta seems to make the more detailed cockpits. Im using the quinta studio set for my AH64E build and the only thing that irritates me about them is that they seem more like decals and a lot less like pieces. red fox stuff are more like pieces than decals.

The dark gray seats on the Apache are actually dark gray sheepskin,

I've seen images of a chequer cloth pattern, black material but never sheepskin?

I still find the instructions very confusing and some parts mismatched

Hi Nige. You are correct with your Takom rant! I got the big Jeep and it’s now back in its box. Huge seam lines and steps in parts. Huge ejection pin marks in visible places or that interfere with fit. Very poor design and instructions. Put me off future purchases of Takom. Life is too short for that nonsense!

That's probably because Takom is a Tank model outfit, and they're selling Tank Killers...
      Go figure 😆😆😆
