- GIRARD TOWNSHIP, PA - Last night at around 6 PM, multiple west county volunteer fire departments were dispatched to assist Platea Volunteer Fire Company with a reported structure fire on Meadville Road at Langer's Elk Valley Automotive LLC. Pennsylvania State Police were first on scene and reported fire coming through the roof and hearing multiple explosions. Platea's Chief, when arriving on scene, asked dispatch get any and all available tankers that they could find. When fire fighters arrived on scene, they had a purely exterior attack due to the heavy fire load when crews arrived on scene. Crews had to set up two portable ponds for a water supply to feed engines on scene. Water supply operations consisted of a water tanker shuttle service with crews tapping from a water supply in Girard.
Once the fire was under control, crews performed extensive overhaul operations to put out hotspots on the fire grounds. Lake City Fire Company's rehab trailer was requested to bring our rehab trailer which has drinks, chairs for rehab, and quick snacks. In addition, their thermal drone was used to find hotspots and assist with overhaul operations. Some fire fighters were on scene for over five hours.
Multiple fire departments from Erie County in addition to Crawford County.

Thank you all for watching. For continued support, and to see additional videos highlighting first responders and what they do, please consider subscribing.
If the owner puts up a GoFundMe I will donate to it monthly until he's rebuilt, if he rebuilds at all.
Incredible shots of them silhouetted in the first few mins
Thank you!
Now....THAT'S A FIRE!!!! Great video coverage of this event! Thanks to all of the first responders who fought the blaze. You are amazing! Keep safe. Catch you at the next blaze!
WOW! That is some serious flameage!
My hugs and prayers go to the firefighters, they are amazing people
The owner is thinking of rebuilding a new mechanic shop but he’s not sure as of yet.
I hope he does. We’ve been customers of his since he had a place on 20. He’s a good man and an honest mechanic. We’re just heartbroken for him and his family. He worked hard to get that place.
If he starts a GoFundMe we can show him how we feel.
Loved the HD sharpness.
not enough GPM for that fire! WOW
Master Streams? Deck Gun? Was it a water supply issue?
God bless those men
I really don't get why they didn't put deck guns into service once they established water. That would have been a much stronger initial attack
This fire was in a rural location and heavy fire was through the roof when crews first arrived. There was no hydrant available connected to a city water supply. Deck guns would have ate right through water available in the tanks and thus would leave no water to contend with exposures. Tanker trucks had to bring water in and dump into portable ponds. A master stream from a ladder truck and multiple blitzfires were used once the tanker truck shuttle service was fully operational.
@@eriewx I saw the truck streaming, but not the blitzfires - essentially the same effect as a deck gun. But you will note that I said "once they had established water"... I am aware they had no hydrants, and saw the tankers and 3 pools in use. It pays to fully read a comment before you respond and flame-spray it. I do know what I am saying.
@Rona Matlow it isn't a question of them nit reading your comment, it's a question of your comment being nothing but bullshit.
@@eriewx So use small lines and let it just vaporize without doing a damn thing.... SMH BASICS!

"I do know what I am saying"
-You have proven time and again that you do not
Garages are so dangerous when they burn. So many explosive substances in there.
That was a bad ass fire . Just a thought here with all the stuff going on in existence why can’t someone come up with a agent that can help in fires like this! Fires are not going to be going away but sadly going to get worse, there needs to something made , I remember when there were chicken parts used for plane fires but they stopped that , foam is used in some fires, maybe get a scholarship made up in this area if there isn’t any
Thank goodness the fire had already vented itself.

Deck guns, Deck guns, Deck guns!!!!

@@eriewx obviously there are more who think like me. You were there so you saw things (like the blitzfires) that you did not show in the video. But the fact remains that the deck gun is the most under used tool in the fire service, yet it is extremely effective. As an initial salvo, it can knock down exposure fire in a way that no hand line can. With water established on a fire like this, it would be just as effective as a truck in suppressing the roof fire, and there is nothing to set up. Pull the pin, the engineer turns it on, and away you go. So yes use deck guns here!
@@eriewx The best way to protect exposures is to put out the fire...

Proving once again you know nothing about firefighting
Terrible loss for the owner, but from a firefighter point of view small handlines and lack of master streams, gpms put out fires

@@eriewx I've operated under those conditions for 38 years I'm familiar
@@richardtackentien2161
Clearly you haven't and are not familiar... otherwise you would have noticed
Any cause released?
Itll be ruled undetermined due to extent of damage. Fire Marshall can't rule anything besides area it is believed to have started.
WHY the fuck would you pull a 1 3/4" line on THAT??????? That's a 2 1/2" line MINIMUM!
Everybody that says a deck gun will run the water supply down in the truck in a minute, don't realize that it only takes seconds to knock the legs out from under most fires to reduce extension and the radiant heat that goes with it. You don't need protection if you eliminate the threat!
I have to agree with you, a couple of deck guns would have been more than appropriate to get control.
Fully agree. Hand lines don't pack the PUNCH needed on this Jaab.
You're not going to get that stopped with a deck gun in a few minutes, way too much fire, unless they have a dozen tenders running it's not gonna happen
@@asbestosfiber You'll slow it way down though, and give the tankers time to show up.
Proving once again that you know nothing about firefighting and have never worked a fire in your life
I do not get it, I just don't get it, period !!! This county government can afford millions of dollars in firefighting apparatus, equipment, and other essentials for fighting fires within the county, but the county government cannot seem to afford a paid Fire Department. It just does not make any sense to me. Albeit, the county government in my opinion is selling the residential and business taxpayers short on their return for what they are paying taxes for, really short.
Girard TOWNSHIP has less than 5,000 people in it. It's NOT the county that funds it. I Guarantee you that you can't run a full time dept. with that small of a tax base.
Another town with no hydrants
No shit, most rural towns don't.
