    It's great that they led off with a ground monitor, but they need to ditch the combination nozzle on it, it should have a straight tip so they have the reach to put out the fire. That combination nozzle just wasn't doing it.

    I do not get it, I just don't get it, period !!! This county government can afford millions of dollars in firefighting apparatus, equipment, and other essentials for fighting fires within the county, but the county government cannot seem to afford a paid Fire Department. It just does not make any sense to me. Albeit, the county government in my opinion is selling the residential and business taxpayers short on their return for what they are paying taxes for, really short.

      Girard TOWNSHIP has less than 5,000 people in it. It's NOT the county that funds it. I Guarantee you that you can't run a full time dept. with that small of a tax base.

    Apparently, they don't have a foam unit. All they're doing is filling up that containment area with water. The internal pressure was forcing diesel OUT of the system until the top separated. So many things done poorly here.

    I am pretty sure I would fire one of those two. The possibility of a fire was high, the likely hood of gas having spilled in that accident was extremely high and they proceeded as if it was stone they where working around. Very reckless.

  • @hvfd5956
    @hvfd5956 Рік тому

    Training and pre-plan. Focus should have been on keeping the two tanks cools. (butane in front of the skid-steer and the large tank of whatever it was). Thoughts should have been around keeping both tanks cool until the butane tank burned itself out. I'm not sure why the one guy kept putting water on the driveway unless he was trying to keep it out of a drain. I realize rural departments don't always have the manpower to do everything. Planning and drilling on what they would do when this happened should have had more priority. It wasn't an if, it was a when. So they should have been ready. This could have been a lot worse if the large tank had ruptured. I am guessing it was a few thousand gallons of Diesel. Company should have followed proper rules for this size of tanks. Butane tank should not have been that close to the other tank. Both tanks should have had a moat around them, so the fire could be allowed to flow into the moat. Then you get to treat it like a pit fire with fog nozzles. In this case, the area around the tanks wasn't level which made fighting the fire much worse. I hope the company's insurance required them to upgrade the fuel station with proper moat and pre-piped fire protection. With what these guys had to work with, they did a pretty good job.
