A friend's sister had a pure breed cat that was named Darrell. It was by far the dumbest cat I've ever seen. It would get its claws hung on the living room carpet at least once a day, and would make a yowling cry until his sister would get the stupid cat unstuck from the carpet. I like cats, but this $400 pure breed cat was almost brain dead.
Bob Newhart probably did much of it. His humor was really "dry." I played a few shows with him, and his material was just like this. Some people in the audience didn't get it! LOL
We just played him on, and played him off the stage. There really wasn't much to it. We used to have "live" shows at the Hilton Hotel. That doesn't happen anymore!

Dad would almost be in tears watching the original Bob Newhart Show, Carol Burnette, Mash, etc. All a bit before I was old enough to stay up and watch them, but 40 years later I understand what he saw in all of these comedians. NOTHING today holds a candle to the talent of this calibre of actors

Have you ever watched behind the scenes about The Three stooges? They actually went through a lot of hard times and they worked for very little money. It's very sad how they were taking advantage of and they didn't even know it so if you ever get time research that it's on UA-cam

If was ever able to collect on that, I would NOT still be working. Comedy GOLD, delivered for ZERO out of pocket cost, for the masses. His character was a genetic designer who created his own living “friends” and was a chief scientist for replicant manufacturer Tyrell Corp, the genetic equivalent to Intel or Nvidia today. He delivered a fantastic performance in that film, and we all love him as Larry, too!

Kinsella set on a Native reserve (later turned into the excellent movie Dance Me Outside) where one family has two Margarets -- Big Margaret and Little Margaret. They had so many kids that when they got to the hospital, the dad was a bit drunk and didn't remember they already had a Margaret at home (slightly more tragic ending to that story, though).
This show was no BOB NEWHART SHOW. I never felt the same about it. But Larry, Darryl and Darryl were a GENIUS idea! Couldn’t wait to see them walk through the door. 😄

This was one of my late Dad's funniest show moments from classic 80's TV. I got to watch this episode with him and it became a running joke in our family when weird stuff popped up.
I remember that episode. I laughed for a long time behind that. It's a good thing George Foreman wasn't on an episode of Newhart. All five of his son's first names are named George. He even has a daughter named Freda George and another one named Georgette!

You get that sounds in a lot or rule areas. You go into northern Wisconsin or Minnesota you would swear you were in the Deep South. Some of the really secluded areas in those states along the Mississippi it gets even worse.
Would watch as a kid just waiting for these guys, but as I got older, for the female members of the cast also, plus the whole cast was great, and the humor was just so that it wasn't above the heads of younger viewers. I remember that you couldn't go a day to school without hearing someone referred to as or acting as these three!

@Srd1126 Season 1 was videotaped. From season 2 onward, the series was filmed. This was done b/c Bob Newhart wanted a more realistic visual feel to this series.
I just had to find this clip tonight. I met a guy at the local bar and he introduced himself as Darryl, so then I said, "Oh, what a coincidence, my brother is named is Darryl,...and so is my other brother." He didn't think my line was very funny. I guess he had some hope that all the people that ever watched this sitcom, were dead.
First season was shot on tape. They switched to film for the next season. (Or maybe the change took place during the first season. I am not 100% certain of when.) I don't know if they have done this but the 35mm film episodes can be scanned into HD video and shown that way on cable channels or released as Blu rays. Not much they can do with the video episodes. Upscale and pretend but it won't truly be HD.
Many years ago I worked with a guy who had a brother named Darrell and our boss was also named Darrell and he used to call The boss is the other brother Darrell.

@Srd1126 Season 1 was videotaped. From season 2 onward, the series was filmed. This was done b/c Bob Newhart wanted a more realistic visual feel to this series.
I prefer the film to the videotape. Excellent decision by Bob.

I just had to find this clip tonight. I met a guy at the local bar and he introduced himself as Darryl, so then I said, "Oh, what a coincidence, my brother is named is Darryl,...and so is my other brother." He didn't think my line was very funny. I guess he had some hope that all the people that ever watched this sitcom, were dead.
My husband's name is Ben. He's pretty tired of "Whatcha Ben Doing?" and "Ben Dover".

This is the first season of Newhart, that's Leslie, not Stephanie.
First season was shot on tape. They switched to film for the next season. (Or maybe the change took place during the first season. I am not 100% certain of when.) I don't know if they have done this but the 35mm film episodes can be scanned into HD video and shown that way on cable channels or released as Blu rays. Not much they can do with the video episodes. Upscale and pretend but it won't truly be HD.
