How much does your truck and trailer weigh that makes you able to haul 17,500. Your truck and trailer together has tk weigh more than 8,500??
Great video! Only question is when you say CDL. Is that a CDL-A or CDL-B? I ask because CDL-B has a 10K lb weight limit on trailers where CDL-A does not. So, can I run non-cdl even though I have a CDL-B? I noticed a couple others had the same questions with no answers so here I am.
The Greatest Advice. much appreciated
How heavy can you go with cdl hotshot
looking for a lease on?
Hey bud, I want to start doing non cdl hauling do you know where I can get training?
Been eyeballing hotshot for some time now and have the opportunity to get my feet wet. I have a 2004 Ford F-250 crew cab full size, starting with a 16x8.5 enclosed and have a one car dovetail. I have loaded up uship to start running mostly local. Currently living in central Fla and run up to middle GA a lot. I will say this about your videos so far, you have it all simplified for everyone. You give your take and experience on the subject.
I figured uship would be a good place to start without needing MC and DOT #'s working my way to eventually CDL with the appropriate setup. I especially liked the break down on the CDL NON-CDL in this vid, don't overdo it tearing up your equipment. I would def stay NON-CDL in my truck, CDL with an F-650 or bigger with more weight capacity.
Thank you Craig for what you do.
Matt
Ive had my cdl since 2020, does that mean I can run any hotshot set up I want or does staying under 26K make a difference in cost and paperwork etc. sorry for the rookie question I just wanna get a complete understanding of the hotshot world
Thanks for the information
So your saying if your weighs 13,14k you add that to your trailer weight for example 9,990lbs = your only left with 2,2.5k lbs to haul ? To stay under the 26k mark ?
His truck not 13k maybe 5-8k if it’s a swd. My dually is 9k. You don’t go by the sticker you have to run over the scale for your weight
do you use a broker or just load boards , and what should i be looking out for out of both options
Thank you for always being a professional, not take sides, and just provide valuable info.
Truly appreciate you saying that! At the end of the day, I just want to see this industry operated by professionals at the top of their game!

I did not understand about how much you take per mile?? It is on the 1:20 in the video .. can explain that please..
Alex wrote the book. Read it 🙈
What about a class B CDL? I’m stumped on how much I can haul.
Hello Sir good day I want to get into CDL but i want to go into non CDL first like you say just to know everything the right way so my question is excuse my ignorance but one thing I want to under stand is if my truck and trailer meet the 26 k lbs just like yours how much weight on the loads should be if your truck and trailer alone are 26 k lbs and under sorry for my ignorance but it's better to ask and learned from the best in the business and experience have a good day .
No cdl in 2022 will still work? Does the February new laws affect the non cdl drivers??
What CDL is best for Hotshot? A or B
That really depends on what you want to specify in.
Just Hotshot with a 3500 truck and 40 trailer. Cargo
@@davidtarver715 class A
I have a 22 l5p non cdl although I have a cdl i do paper log it is legal which is why i pay a dot compliance person to keep me up to date
A Men brother, I am a CDL Hotshot, Good Utube / Well Said, I know that there are let's say some “less than” brokers out there, but many brokers have been burned by some “less than” Hotshot operator’s, this hurts all of us. Show Up on time and professional and take care of your equipment. You will get used a little but keep your eyes on the big picture “U/we all make more”. It's great to get calls from brokers that like working with you, or you can call brokers to see what is moving. RELATIONSHIP BUILDING. PS take lot's of pictures of your loads before you depart, you never know when you need proof. Be blessed / Safe travels.
got question my truck gvwr is 12200 my gawr front 5200 rear 9350 my scale ticket empty with trailer hooked up 5120 front 6580 rear and 7340 trailer axel does this mean i can only load 500 on the truck as a payload?
Good job well done
Really appreciate the feedback!
I dig the video my guy!
Greatly appreciate it!
Straight to the point thank you.
What insurance should I get if I'm doing vehicles and fright with a 24ft hotshot gooseneck trailer
Call (844) 235-9449 and ask for Ryan. Tell him I sent you. He will take great care of you.
Love that you’re teaching professionalism. Respect
Really appreciate it!
I’m looking to break into hotshot. Any advice on where to find these classes you speak of? I’m located in Oklahoma. I want to do things the right way but it’s sorta hard to get all the right info…
What do you think of 2 car hauling
I honestly don’t work with cars almost at all so I wouldn’t be the best source for that information.
@@shipleytransport3211 thank you sir safe driving
If you have to follow "95%" (@7.11) of the same thing as a CDL, just get a CDL. Getting a CDL gets harder as time goes on. I heard in MI they are changing some things of the skills test in August 2023. In MI after you got your CLP, before Feb 2022 all you had to do was pass the Skills test to get a CDL, now training is required. That can add a few thousand $$ and have a few month waiting list, at least for class A.
Do you know how to register/file to be able to run CDL? My husband already has his CDL, but doesn't know what he needs to do to operate as so for hotshotting. I already email the DMV etc if anyone could give me information, but its the weekend
Hey man, so I'm non cdl but I can't find trailer and company to derate the trailer to 10,000 lbs or less. Can you help I'm in California.
Just got a 2014 Ram 3500 kinda thinking it’s going to be wise to just do a cdl set up. What are your thoughts? Which this truck choice should I just go ahead and get my cdl? Authorities are going live soon but obtaining my cdl will set me back a few weeks. Thank you for your help and videos.
hey Craig thanks for all the content. so helpful with everything man. Keep it up and be safe!
my one suggestion is could you make more videos or a video on how to book loads. How to find loads on DAT, Truck stop, etc. or whatever apps you use or sites you use. which ones work best in which geographical locations. because i paid for DAT yesterday just to use it and i cant find anything on here, its like everything is posted with no price, no description, no dimensions and nothing. literally a pickup drop-off and a phone number. Am i doing something wrong??? Im in Michigan also btw. idk if that matters.
That is absolutely something that I will look into! Appreciate the feedback Stephen!
I have a cdl now for 10 months now and I’m really looking into in hotshot. Will having a cdl get me better loads?
Will you make a video on how to book loads
It’s coming very soon here!
How much is insurance monthly. For box trucks 26 feet 1500 monthly. Thanks
Unfortunately there are far too many variables for me to ever be able to guess at that for you. I’m sorry.
Amen brother! You’re a wealth of information and I certainly appreciate it. You hit the nail on the head over and over again. There is so much to learn, even before so much as dipping your toe in! Like you said, DO THE RESEARCH FOLKS! I have researched for years prior to making this move, and talking to you for 10 mins showed me there’s more one can always learn! Appreciate you brother!
Also, for those looking to get into the industry, more than doing your research, don’t be afraid to ask questions!!!
I really appreciate it man. Just try to pass it forward and help the industry become as strong as possible!
When you say electronic logs, are you required to use an ELD or can you just run an app like keeptruckin?
The actual ELD connected to the truck through OBD2 and the app through Bluetooth.
Great point about not hauling Max truck weight!
Appreciate it! Just seems to make the most sense to me. Time will tell though.
Amen brother
Appreciate it!
Good afternoon sir, quick question I’m currently 25 living at home with my parents, no wife, no kids.. currently making about 50-55k a year with an office job.. lookin into getting my cdl and getting into hot shotting locally here in AZ as I’d like to be home a bit more vs being OTR.. my question for you sir is, how likely is it that I can make 60k my first year.. I’m really not aiming to become rich or anything just would like to make a decent living doing what I enjoy. Appreciate the response!
Well as I’ve said in a lot of my videos, I’m never the one to promise anyone a specific amount of money. This industry really does reward effort and efficiency. The more you put in, the more you’ll get out! Good luck man!
How did you learn load securement?
I was lucky enough to learn from someone when I leased on with their company. Also, there is a load securement handbook that you can buy and look through for reference as well.
@@shipleytransport3211 ok cool appreciate it dude...
@@AlonBashan absolutely!
Is there any less chances of a non cdl driver finding jobs than a cdl driver?
So not having a CDL will limit you yes. Once you find a way to start though, the sky is the limit!
I've been watching your videos and a quick question for me is how long do you stay out? Is there any home daily non cdl jobs?
Bro. Quick question.
Looking at a Ram 2500 regular bed crew cab. Tow capacity close to 20k. What do you think?
Also, got a trailer in mind for that?
No CDL
Sounds like a good truck. Check out my couple of videos regarding trailers!
Scales aren’t always a thing with pick ups! Some states say all commercial vehicles- some get pisssd off if you plug up their scales with pick ups….
Cost effective no! You can buy a class 7 or 8 truck for less than a good pick up diesel!! Pick ups are stupid high priced right now.
I have some questions. Can I email you or Dm you?
