My authority just reached 3 months. Getting started, we were told we need 30 days. 30 days in, we need 60. 60 in need 90. When I talk to a new broker, off the bat it’s how old does my authority need to be and can I fill out a carrier packet anyway. The guys out here scamming are worse than the fuel prices. If you get into this, validate a brokers mc and ask your factoring company if they will factor a load from so and so. The faster you can get a mc checked and verify you will get paid the better. If it takes you 10 minutes to find out, you likely lost the load but definitely avoided the chance of getting scammed by just seeing a load and taking it, not vetting the company. As Stone Cold used to say, DTA, don’t trust anybody.
Hey man, I'm looking to lease on somewhere. I'm in SE Oklahoma but I'll go wherever I need to. I'm taking your advice on not getting my own authority too. You sound very knowledgeable and I would really like to work with you if possible.
My plan is to get my CDL through my current company,Pepsi. I'll drive for them a 1-2 years gaining experience driving day cab semi with up to 48 ft trailer. All the while getting extra equipment for hot shot. Tarps straps chains safety equipment etc. then once I have about two years on my CDL I'll seek to purchase a truck( dodge 3500) and trailer(40 ft gooseneck)and lease on with a company. Let me know if this is a decent plan or not. If not what could I do differently?
Great plan boss . Pepsi is a Good company to start , and to get experience with . I Just got my CDL , any advice on how to get in the door with Pepsi ?
@@QueTrucking803 You're best bet is to hop on indeed and search your local Pepsi jobs, or abroad if willing to relocate. I work out of Knoxville,TN and we're pretty much constantly looking for drivers.

I drive for a semi company. I have my llc, dot, mc, but never was active. I been driving 20 years. I want to buy hotshot truck and trailer. Would it still be better to lease with a company? Can I build my authority while leased with a company? I want to dispatch myself. What’s your advice?
@@jamesdavis6275yep what he said. If you cant open your own wait till you can. Leasing on sucks. Using ur own equipment to make the owner more money leaving you with little to no profit. You probably wont even make enough to pay your equipment. It’s already hard enough as an owner op with your own equipment. Goodluck
@sebastianvazquez9967 I have my own authority LLC dot etc already . I was saying I wouldn't recommend leasing on with another company because that's extra money out of your pocket . I started my business by buying everything out of pocket while working a regular job to stay out of debt to better my chances of success for when I get out there on the road
@@jamesdavis6275 I meant that my authority would be new and I hear that it takes 1 year active for brokers to deal with me? Is this true and how I get around it? I was wondering can I lease with someone while I’m waiting that year?
@chrisdamian3824 I know when I first started my phone kept ringing several times a day calls texts emails . However I haven't personally dealt with any brokers as far as hauling a load for them yet so honestly not sure . I have heard another of people saying 90 days or older and I've also heard of broker's dealing with new authorities right away so it depends really . I got my authority active a couple months ago so I'm new to this as well . I kinda jumped the gun and got active before I got a trailer , bought the truck 5 yrs ago that I'm gonna start with when I get a trailer . However in the mean time I have a wrecker I can run to make a few dollars on top of my normal job ( truck driver delivering concrete ) while I search for a trailer and also while letting my authority age . Personally I wouldn't lease on with a company because that's less money in your pocket and you'd be doing the work . Also I would avoid dispatch services too as much as possible . All of my information is based on my own opinion after watching several videos from different people out here doing hotshot and other research . Take everything I say for what it is MY opinion and create your own judgement for what is best for you in your situation. Best advice I can give is try to keep your debt low and make as much money as you can for the work you do . Be safe out there
I'd recommend staying out of debt as much as possible to better your chances of success. You don't need a brand new truck / trailer with high monthly payments on both . I'd personally recommend buying a good used truck and trailer and grow from there
I own my own my equipment outright f250 with a gooseneck and a 40ft 22gen trailer I have 2000 in monthly bills but I work full time as a crane operator doing 115k a year I wanted to start a hotshot business and have a driver run the loads while I dispatched with owning my own equipment already could it work ?
@GalaxyShotShot do you think I can make more dispatching myself rather than having a service keeping me on the road? I’ve heard the first year is hard dealing with broker’s so I was figuring if I had the service deal with BS for me it’d make me more!
I started my authority and hit the road day 1. U get a lot of no’s but freight has to move. Either way it’s a tough market right now . Ur best bet is to hit the road in march when freight typically picks up but we all know trucking is at an all time low. I jumped into trucking when the markets where down years ago and made it work. It just comes down to what ur willing to sacrifice to make it work. I’m single no kids no x wife’s so I’m free to leave home w no worries.
Thanks for the video! Question. Do you think owning a truck and hiring a driver would be overwhelming while working a 40 hour week at a different job?( I know nows not the best time for that thanks to you)
It’s possible if your job is in the evening and you’re still able to talk to your driver. Things happen and when they do that driver needs you on top of your game. Don’t leave him on the side of the road
Don’t come on here and start telling people why getting your own authorities a bad idea because I’m getting it and I’m gonna be your competition so get ready buddy.

How do you find a company to lease onto? Is it companies like walmart or ford?
I already make over $100k a year and work 4 on 4 off. Is it worth trading in for a dually and doing hot shot car hauling my 4 days off.
