I agree with Carlito! Lack of communication will be the downfall of any company. Maybe you don’t have to do Everything for them but you could explain things a little better across the board. That’s my biggest pet peave is lack of communication.
I use to tell my boss, if we aint communicating, we aint doing nothing.
Well said
100% ! All of which could be avoided with a SET OF DRAWINGS !!!!!!!!!!!!
Even a simple hand sketch, showing lengths, heights, etc. Then no one is guessing what the other one wants !!!!!!!!!!!!
Fire eric
I understood the communication. As did others. He mis-calculated and needs to own up.
Ryan, you are the captain of the ship. As a first officer told me when I was new captain, "I can't know what you are thinking, tell me and I will do whatever you want". I think Carlito's request to know the day ahead of time and the number of blocks is a reasonable request.
And honestly, if the math is so quick and easy as Ryan showed... why not just do it and tell Carlito to get X number of bricks in the morning? He can still go pick them up and bring them to the job and build the wall. You're just losing the 30 seconds it took you to do that math, and you know it will be done right.
@kenfresno2125 oh because nobody can think for themselves especially when they are so-called professionals at their jobs! You people are soft
If you’re going to micromanage a business, then don’t expect anybody to make a decision, note you do treat good on the other end, 5 min meeting before they leave at the end of day would help and thanks for the content

Good on Carlito for standing by and defending his opinion, and not being a yes man like Fran.
Exactly. Carlito is a man. Franny and Eric and Ray are yes men. This video was just everyone pointing at fingers at everybody
That’s exactly what I came down here to say, all they like to do is point fingers at each other.
Yo we love Franny but he is most definitely a yes man. 😂
I don’t think a yes man. Good workers. Good people. Ready to work. With no complaining. Hard to find
Your the boss Ryan. It's not upto your employees to order materials. That's on you. If you want project managers. Pay them accordingly
This is the best comment so far, well said
How do you know what he pays them. Maybe he is paying accordingly.
Project managers? Say what?? He's looking for someone to step up and be a lead guy/foreman. Carlito supposedly does walls on the side. He gave him height length and size of block. That's all the info to figure it out. U can't pay someone as a foreman until they show they can do the job
@@blairdohmanyeah but doesn’t want to pay they accordingly like the comment said Carlitos is my uncle he gets paid 19 and hour with no benefits they work shirts hours makes roughly 5 to 6 a week he works side jobs ti make ends meet the only guy making money is Ryan on top of that he doesn’t give them nothing of his social media
Ryan, you were wrong here. I don’t like to make negative comments, especially when I’m not part of your business, but you asked. I think the number one thing you could work on is setting articulable goals and expectations for the crew. If you expected Carlito to do the order you should have given him the time, set the expectation, and open the door for questions and clarification. Carlito is a good worker and is extremely responsible and on this day you did not treat him as such.
He deserves a shrimp cocktail apology.
Yeah Carlitos has always been a above and beyond employee and if he was given the right conditions he would’ve ordered the right amount of blocks 100%
He was simply going to pick up block. Not planning or designing the job, just picking up block. You need a days notice for that?
💯
He needs extra shrimp in that shrimp cocktail apology.
@@cknorris3644yeah, I think people are misunderstanding it. He was asked to go pick up blocks with measurements but didn’t know how to do the math to see how many blocks were needed that was it. You don’t need a days notice to do a basic math
In all fairness to Carlito, the conversation you had with him should’ve been done before the season started, not in the middle of the job. He probably believed he was just building the wall, not having the responsibility of ordering the blocks as well. So his request of having a discussion about the job the day before is very reasonable. And he’s relatively new to the crew too, so he probably didn’t expect this much responsibility this soon
He’s not new, this isn’t his first season. He’s helped out in the past.
@@roberts6644 Its his first full signed on season. In the past he'd only been called in for a couple jobs here and there, none of which involved doing anything more than operating a skid steer and setting forms.

As a supervisor for many years, I have found it's just easier to tell someone exactly what you need or want done. If you need 76 blocks just tell them to get 76 blocks. It took you less time to do the math than to explain to them how to figure it out on their own.
This is how Biden's America was built. I prefer Trump's America where we teach others, and let people learn how to do jobs properly. Is telling someone 76 blocks easier? Yup! Will they learn? Nope! I’ve been watching you over the years and notice Micromanagement at its finest here, you’re always giving them step by step instructions and then expecting them to think on their own! 😮
Try delegating or convey what your expectations are from your employees.
At that point you will see a leader emerge, who will actually take the initiative and lead, one who will think-ahead and get things done, and you will also see who is just a follower. If a leader doesn’t present themselves, you will need to keep looking.

At my previous employer, we had a white board of upcoming jobs for the month. Even if they all got rescheduled or didn’t happen on the expected date, the crew at least knew the type of work that was coming up.
Exactly
We had a similar setup at a landscaping company that I worked for. A white board had all the jobs listed for the upcoming week with the location and a general description. If any speciality tools were needed for that job outside of what we usually carried that was also listed.
Heck, there is probably an app that can share the upcoming schedule with everyone.

The block should have been loaded, ready, the night before they are needed. Sometimes they don’t have what you need then you are chasing your tail.
Take time every day and learn to delegate stop micro managing and let the guys get a sense of achievement.

he obviously did that on purpose because he makes sure to cut when he talks down to his employees. typical boss behavior, pitying them against each other so ray thinks his job is at stake and works harder and vice verse with pat. he creates resentment and competition between them and he ends up with both of them working harder than needed
None of these guys are working “harder than needed.” Especially Ray and Pat.
@@nosads5849 The problem with creating resentment is that you take away any feel good factor. Some people work harder if using a carrot rather than a stick. At the end of each day there will be no job satisfaction.

Each job should be ready to go first thing in the morning. It has been surveyed and notes taken. Blaming others will never create harmony.
Although these guys build walls they would have never priced or measured the materials they work for other people.

Now going forward, you can tell them length and width of a wall and they can figure out the materials required. If they can’t do that, then you can give them the “POW”
Communication is key. Just because it's clear to you, doesn't mean it's clear to all. Take the extra time that you are trying to save.
@@projectpat47 it makes me mad that when carlito told ryan hed like to sit down and talk to cofirm all this stuff ryan just says "i dont want to talk" ... i think ryan was just throwing a temper tantrum to be honest, he wasnt making any sense at all .. someone give ryan the POW
@@ilovepizza8263RELAX CRAAPER! DON'T WORRY ABOUT EVERYTHING IT'S OK😂😂
He claimed to be very experienced. . . .
I do not know....Carlito installs walls/works with blocks so that is basic math for doing that kind of work...If Carlito really did not know what he needed, they should have told Ryan before hand they did not know how to do it.... That is like hiring a guy to drive the dump truck then having to give them the CDL class... I would expect to tell a cabinet maker a (draft) drawing with size and shape, and type of wood so they can find out how much wood they would need to make it... Then again I may just be old and expect tradesmen to know there trades....
Ray being aggressively with new guy.
big ray, you need to drop that ego. youve changed alot in this video soon as Pat is working.
I think I'm seeing that ray is getting scared that Pat is going to replace him.
The more responsibility you want to deflect, the clearer you have to be upfront as a boss
Carlito is an employee not a project manager you as the boss need to have material order ready for them to just say “pick up for victory “ we as owners have to take all the heat. Now if you get a project manager you can be upset at him. My opinion
Agree 💯
I really feel bad for Pat, he looks like such a great guy and so down to earth and ray is power tripping over him. Please protect Pat.
It has the same vibes as when Mike got hired and Daryl Sr. got put on the hot seat cause there was another CDL driver around other Ryan
I agree Ray is extremely jealous of Pat. This could be bad.
@@waynefreeman8682how so? Can you explain or are you just going to make assumptions?
Facts, Ray is getting realllll cocky. All the nice compliments he’s getting in the comment section is really getting to his big head. I don’t know why he’s acting like a big shot especially to Pat considering he is a new employee. Ray’s ego is increasing dramatically
Ray has like 1 brain cell he annoys me so much especially now his ego is grown he’s terrible
Ryan saying in front of the whole crew to carlito, “you do walls on the side.”
“I thought you knew how to figure it out.”
Unprofessional and put carlito in a position where he had to defend himself.
I bet Ryan wouldn’t take kindly to it if a customer talked to him in that way in front of his crew. It’s the same thing when the foreman is talking to an employee. Pull them to the side or if it can wait till later then wait for the time to have that discussion. It’s the same way in the military, you don’t just call someone out like that in front of the crew unless they are doing something unsafe or otherwise uncalled for.
I couldnt work for a boss like you , no offence .
Lovr your vids
I think it's the bosses job to procure the materials and the workers job to install them. You don't have them figure the amount of concrete you need why is it their responsibility to order block? Unless one of them is the project manager.
Bingo
This is a solid point. Probably the best one I've seen so far.
he wants them to do work that they're not paid to do. "here take these extra responsibilities on that a manger does but I'm not going to pay u extra"
Great point. Ryan this is the point that matters. In your head you wanted to extend responsibility to the great Carlito but you didn't communicate it fully. The problem with being the boss is thinking the crew is on the same page yet they aren't in the conversation in your mind. A great learning lesson and we doubt we'll see this happening again.
Shouldn't Ryan be able to at some point trust that he doesn't have to hold his employees hands and look over thier shoulder on every job. Maybe he needs a foreman.
Ray would have a black eye talking to me like that.
I know the Ray type. Nice on the outside but a little snake on the inside when it comes to getting ahead when the boss is around.
You wouldn’t do shii 🐈
You need a stock pile of gravel at the yard for the jobs where its expensive. Anything left over from jobs just dump there, then its ready. Topsoil too. Love the videos!!!
Cmon Franny, throwing Carlito under the bus.... xD
Ray trying to explain something sounds like a 5 year old telling you how they did something, "You gotta push it, just push it, oh no you gotta pull it."
🤣🤣 i would have fired him at mistake 20 already 😂 but ryan likes his big smile 😃
@@Lakersmamba2423he's a good dude . Just needs a little bit of direction.
Ray is aggressive as heck…
He’s useless
I was getting frustrated with Ray on that one. I hate people that doesn't explain right
You can see the mood shift with the guys. Disagreements can affect ppl in many different ways. I’ve found on job sites after the dust has settled, a simple hand shake man to man & a “we’re all good” away from the others can really go a long way.
I agree with carlito. You should have trained him on square footage durning the winter. Never assume they will know. That gave me headaches when I first started. Now I can go on fishing trips for two weeks straight and the business will run itself. It’s all about taking the multiple hats off and giving them to the right right person
As a small business owner, personally I wouldn’t expect my employees to figure out the amount of materials needed. Maybe my expectations are to low though lol
Honestly, I don’t know how Ray get his shoe’s on every morning and now he starts to get bossy, wow
Yeah when he said he would go meet him he was talking to him like a chikd
His wife dresses him 😂😂😂😂
Ray also giving his opinion on new driver
Saying eventually he’ll figure it out
Ray your a year in and still need to be told how to do everything
Ray needs to step up his game. He's slacking while the old-timer carries the load. If he's just here for the ride, he might as well drive the truck. Time for Wreck it Ray to shape up and hustle like a star.
Ray does NOT like the new competition
