The yellow things are blank adapters. They partially block the exit of gas from the muzzle so that blank ammo will cycle the rifle action, used in training.
They also by partially blocking he end of the barrel stop any accidentally loaded live rounds exiting the weapon. If I remember correctly they're designed to take at least three rounds before failing. Thankfully never saw one tested the army's pretty OCD about keeping blanks and live ammo separate. Any supply officer or range controller who screws that up is in a world of cack and if it should result in an injury he might as well find a new career because the army is not for him any more.
@@ianjardine7324 At the depot and Catterick we used to put the muzzle against ammo cans with the muzzle plug and fire a few blanks, there was always some gasses come out, we would show why we never have a muzzle close to the body of your mucker. The amount if recruites that never quite understood the rule of keep the weapon down range at all times never failed to surprise us. Sarg my weapon jammed was the norm for waving them around. Astounding what people they used to send us
@@justintime1307 agreed very few things caused the pucker factor than some Muppet waving a loaded rifle around on the range. We had one idiot who managed to put three rounds into a corporal's helmet by tripping as the were entering a building. The very lucky very large and understandably very angry Fijian corporal once he'd calmed down took the prat behind a building to explain his displeasure while the whole group looked the other way.
@ianjardine7324 Our weapon of choice in the 80s had been an L1A1 SLR others would call a FAL with a 7.62 round. Enough to make a mess at a distance forget the recruit next to him around 10ft away. I can honestly say we had difficulty hearing his repeated name rank and number each time he entered our gas room, CS is not a nice experience. His TAB with the gpmg wasn't to bad by the end of his 26 weeks. I do believe my jnr drill instructor at the time did do a fair attempt at a field goal, to this day I still believe the recruit left the lrone position and cleared the ground. He did make a complaint yet no other recruit seen anything, as one would imagine he wasn't to popular after that. Nobody ever repeated that during that selection

Glad you liked it!!... I'm not typically an horror fan, but I do like the classic Universal & Hammer movies, always liked the Wolfman as a kid and find it had to resist a werewolf venture... Love this movie, one of the best of its type... Add in Sean Pertwee, Kevin McKidd , Liam Cunningham & the rest of a great cast... One word 'classic'... Thanks for making my night... Sean Pertwee is in a more recent UK werewolf movie 'Howl' from 2015, though not for very long.... 'Howl' is more than worth the time also....🙂🙂🙂
Sean Pertwee who plays Wells is one of my favourite actors. he has been in quite a few movies and played Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred Pennyworth in the series Gotham. Sean comes from a famous acting family. his father was Jon Pertwee who was known for playing Dr Who and also Worzel Gummidge. while his uncle Bill (fathers brother) was the Air Raid Warden Mr Hodge in the TV show Dads Army. the "yellow thing" on the rifle barrel is a BFA (Blank Firing Adaptor). it is so none will get hit with any wadding or loose metal when firing blank rounds at close distances in training exercises. 40yrs is the recommended shortest distance to aim at someone from when using standard NATO 7.62 blank rounds with a BFA.
Alan you played an excellent game in keeping this quiet. Dog Soldiers was the last thing I expected. An brilliant choice of film and even with the edits, you do a great job of conveying the storyline to the viewer. Good job man.
I've loved this movie since my dad made it the first horror movie I ever watched alone...age 9 :/ The Little Red Riding Hood line is my favourite movie quote of all time, I get weird looks saying it with my "proper" way of speaking. I hope you plan to share this film with your friends and family, not enough people know about this film. The actor that plays Cooper played an inexperienced Priest in the Father Ted Christmas Special. He also plays one of the mains in HBOs Rome, he plays Vorenus. A more family friendly role is in Disney's Brave, he voices the a Lord and his son that no one can understand because his accent and dialect is so strong. He actually got to speak in Doric, his grandfather used to speak it, they wanted something no one could understand and were going to make something up until he suggested speaking Doric to them* :) Just found out he was in Greys Anatomy :) Edit* sorry if my comment was too much I got excited by the movie and went on a rant about the actor since a lot of my family spoke Doric growing up.
When Sarge gets punched a second time while they were fixing him up, the blow actually connected and sprayed blood all over one of the camera operators.
This is without a doubt my fave werewolf movie. Love that it is all practical effects, the banter and chemistry between the cast is amazing too. And like you the Little Red Riding Hood line is one of my all time favourite movie lines 😁

Great film to react to, the military banter is brilliant. So glad you enjoyed the film that much, it's was great to see this. As someone has pointed out, Sean Pertwee (Sarge) is John Pertwee's (The 4th Dr Who) son, Sean appeared in another film "Event Horizon" which was a lot of fun. Sometimes at certain angles Sean really looks like his father.

The football match they keep mentioning and shown in a newspaper at the end of the film in which England beat Germany 5-1 was real and was played on 1st September 2001 which is the date this film takes place.
I'm not a horror film fan but, this film makes my top 10 favourite films everytime, I love it because it's not wholly serious, the banter is spot on, the "Red Riding hood" line is brilliant...
I know 'The Descent' is Neil Marshall's more popular and accomplished film. But I definitely prefer this! For the budget, it looks great... especially the werewolf design which they don't over-expose. Lots of great banter and it hits the ground running, never slowing down.
Definitely one of my all time favorite British movies👍 Was always sad Marshall never made a few more mid budget UK horrors like this or even a sequel if they could come up with a good story. Maybe Cooper could have joined a new SF team looking for other monsters in UK
I'm Scottish, in the highlands its totally normal to find empty homes like this, there will be supplies like gas and water and porridge, the doors are never locked. They do this in keeping with highland tradition where strangers are welcome in from the cold and harsh weather. It gets lonely so company is welcome im sure, mostly the homes are empty because weathy people live rurally and its their second house they leave in the winter. Sometimes the cottages are little more than wind breakers with rickety old doors more like old sheds, some are used to shelter sheep and livestock, the better ones like old cottages are called "Butt an bens" (phonetic spelling to pronounce right) they're often factored in when route planning to stay over in. Its important everyone restocks the supplies if possible.
In NZ it is huts, you can take shelter, get dry, warmer, and get a feed, you might have to share with others, and some on the great walks are so busy they need to be booked in advance. I guess it comes from their the early Scottish settlers.
1 of my favourite movies ever, not just in horror. And definitely my favourite, even more than American Werewolf in London. It's been a popular movie in UK since was released, but I think it slowly starting to get a bit more attention in the US thankfully
There was talk about making a sequel involving the American special forces (which would be Hollywood fied) and ruin a really good simple story line, so am grateful they didn't in the end.
Oh Alan, talk about a flip-flop. Straight from one horror movie I never cared for straight into one of my top three of all time. Outstanding! I really hope you like this movie as I love it - it's violent, funny, charming and silly, and the cast is excellent. The effects are great and the characters make sensible decisions. It's everything you could want from a horror movie.
Yeah, this is a classic of horror/comedy. Really well done, a really good setup with the team and making you care about the characters - if you can accept the universe it's in, then it's all gravy. Worth seeing American Werewolf in London, Tucker and Dale Versus Evil, Brain Dead/Dead Alive - just a bunch of stuff with really good tension/release
New subscriber from the UK 👊🏼 , loving the content so far . This was and prob one of my favourite horror films , fun few facts I found out about the film .. the sgt was actually drunk during that scene 😅 the wolves were played by pro dancers on stilts while inside the costume , my mind was blown 🤯. Also when they found Cpt Ryan just before they leave you can hear a human scream quickly turning into a wolf's howl which is pretty cool
Great reaction to a great movie. Loved how your facial expression remained calm and collected right up until that sword contacted Coop's teeth 🤣Definitely worth a like and sub.
4:15 - it’s just introducing the principle characters. He was supposed to be on SAS selection. Which they wouldn’t make up the hunter force in real life (the potential squadron / troop you would join) - that’s budget related. He gets RTU’d and is now on a training exercise in Scotland with his unit again. And yes, it’s very plausible as RTUs depending on unit, you’ll be back at work within the next couple of days.
The sarge was Sean Pertwee, Son of a very famous british actor John Pertwee, he was also appeared in Gotham,Event Horizon,Doomsday and has many voice acting credits, Coops was played by Kevin McKidd, from Greys anatomy, trainspotting, and the incredible show "Rome" Capt Ryan, the SF guy was the Onion Knight Davos Seaworth from game of thrones otherwise known as Liam Cunningham...
This has always been a hidden gem of a movie BUT as a Scotsmen I HATE the ending and I know Kevin Mckidd (cooper) hated saying that line you think it's all over, it is now! That's from 1966 world cup final England beating Germany and they still don't shut up about it, but during filming England beat them again 5-1. I think he actually lost a bet so had.to say it against his will.
So the faces you probably recognise the most: Sean Pertwee was Alfred in 'Gotham', Father in 'Equilibrium', and he was also in 'Event Horizon' and 'Doomsday'. His dad was John Pertwee, who's best remembered as the third Doctor ( as in 'Dr Who'), and the children's TV show 'Worzel Gummidge'. Kevin McKidd was in 'Trainspotting', 'Grey's Anatomy', 'Rome', 'Kingdom of Heaven', and he was the voice of both MacGuffins in 'Brave'. Liam Cunningham is probably best known as Ser Davos Seaworth in 'Game of Thrones'. He was also in the remake of 'Clash of the Titans', 'Hunger', 'Harry Brown', 'War Horse' and he was the voice of Duncan/Man-At-Arms in Kevin Smith's 'Masters of the Universe' series.
One of the best werewolf movies, evah! Love the start- 'Coitus Interruptus via Werewolf'! (Gotta love Brit./U.K. humor!) Being 1/2 Native American, a USMC Veteran, I've spent most of this life 'Outside/Camping/other,' so found your joke about why people are so into 'Camping' when they carry their worldly belongings with them! Too true!!! I'm the opposite. I carry the bare minimum, aside from my truck and if needed, water/fuel supplies (For extended camp/hiking trips WAY out in the boonies). Those devices you noticed attached to the ends of their rifles indicate they're using 'Blanks' (Training), and that keeps the muzzle blast tamed down (For close quarter safety, but it's still dangerous.). Military humor/satire is usually dark. That just goes along with the M.O.S./Job. The effects used are outstanding! Pure 'Practical Effects' (ie, REAL), instead of the C.G.I. we're now suffering under. The acting is also amazing, and some of the jokes (Esp. the one Spoon throws at the Were he's boxing!), had me rolling when I first watched! Nice reaction! It's always fun to sit back and enjoy movies! Now we can do it with the entire world! :-)
Little trivia when Pertwee (Sarge) was supposed to be drunk he actually got himself hammered to play the scene and you missed the line ""sausages" which made me choke with laughter. It is my favourite horror movie ever. If you want another good film watch "Cockneys vs zombies".
Yeah that's another barmy film An absolute riot The f*cked up cockney rhyming slang. It's supposed to rhyme but it don't. Even the other cockney old folks in the home don't understand him! And the Zimmer frame chase 😂😂😂 On a more serious note, wasn't Richard Briers' last part in this film?
Wales ,the area that Cooper was undergoing special forces selection, likely meant to depict the Brecon Beacons and Sennybridge........the only part of the world where it can be blazing sun, howling winds, horizontal rain, driving snow and blizzards, gail force hail, thick fog and back to blazing sun within 1 day. Just as likely to collapse from heat exhaustion and exposure as well as hypothermia. I work there. It's incredibly beautiful but a tad temperamental.
The yellow things on the end of the rifles are call blank firing attachments (bfa) it allows the rifle to cycle when firing. It also prevents all the crap that come out from traveling far enough out to cause injury.
The yellow things on their rifles are BFA's. Blank Firing Attachment's. It directs the gas back the re-chamber the round. Otherwise you have to pull on the cocking lever after every shot. That means they ain't got live round's. 🥴 Good movie.
Those yellow what names on the end of the rifles are BFAs, Blank Firing Attachments. They're used for the continual firing of a weapon and to stop bits of the blank flying too far, something to that effect anyway, I'm sure someone can clarify that or correct me. Cheers. * Great film by the way! I've not seen it for ages and might just have to procure a copy.😁
The yellow thing on the rifle is a BFA... Blank firing attachment. It basically allows the weapon to cycle blanks in semi auto and auto as without it there is not enough gas pressure in a blank to cycle the action.
Sarge was played by Sean Pertwee (son of Jon Pertwee - Doctor Who) And Cooper was played by Kevin McKidd, who was in Trainspotting and was in the US Hospital Show Grey’s Anatomy for a couple of seasons.
love the fact the full moon should have ben a giveaway and not the arm that drags the woman from the tent then the silver letter opener, I'll get back to watching now as this is my favourite movie
The yellow part on the SA80-A1 is the BFA Blank Fireing Attachment, only used with blank training rounds. They are dogs soldiers just becauze they are soldiers basically hunting dogs As a 16 year old soldier in 2003 this film was shown so much and its so accurate of how squaddies are.
This is one of my FAVORITE movies, any genre. I watch this at least 2-3 times per year. The ending is crushing...but realistic. Sean Pertwee outstanding performance; same with Kevin McKidd. The entire cast was good, all professional, talented actors.
Excellent film I saw this in the cinema at release the amount of people that jumped out there seats, including me was hilarious. If I have one problem with this movie is how the knife got from a tent in the middle of nowhere to the basement of the house? The wolves certainly wouldn't touch it. Other than that brilliant film.
I think the point is the people who disappeared *properly* disappeared because all of the camping gear was in that cellar. i.e. the werewolves went and cleared away the campsite to get rid of evidence when they're back in human form.
@@RonJames-rb7eg They also wouldn't have had to touch it. As thinking human beings they could've wrapped it up in the tent or the belongings or something. 🙂

Any supply officer or range controller who screws that up is in a world of cack and if it should result in an injury he might as well find a new career because the army is not for him any more.
@@ianjardine7324 Not to mention a charge of negligent discharge for the poor crow who loaded the magazine and pulled the trigger.
@@ianjardine7324 At the depot and Catterick we used to put the muzzle against ammo cans with the muzzle plug and fire a few blanks, there was always some gasses come out, we would show why we never have a muzzle close to the body of your mucker. We also used to put flash bangs under an ammo box, the box would go aroumd twenty to thirty foot in the air. Everyone made sure they were thrown far enough after that.
@ianjardine7324
Our weapon of choice in the 80s had been an L1A1 SLR others would call a FAL with a 7.62 round.
My mate, the inscriptions on the silver opener are a Bristish hallmark for the standard of silver in the object and used to be required back in the day.
Glad you are reviewing Dog Soldiers Alan, it's a cracking film ; British army ,he was trying to get into special forces- you'll see why they are called dog soldiers! Also two other gems, British fims, The Trench and Deathwatch, both set in WW1 🏴🇬🇧
I still remember the scene in Deathwatch where they notice the wounded soldier on the stretcher is moving his legs...
Deathwatch was brilliant, it's pretty much disappeared these days though.
@@paidwitness797oh God yes! And Andy Serkis getting more and more psycho!
'Howl' is more than worth the time also....🙂🙂🙂
Howl is amazing.
So glad you picked this one! I loved this when it came out
Sean Pertwee who plays Wells is one of my favourite actors. he has been in quite a few movies and played Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred Pennyworth in the series Gotham.
He also voiced masterchef uk
And Liam Cunningham, Game of thrones etc
Love Sean Pertwee
Jon Pertwee was also in the radio comedy series The Navy Lark. 1950's I think.
He was also in another amazing film, the sci fi horror "Event Horizon" as Smitty, he was solid in that movie too
Alan you played an excellent game in keeping this quiet.
He actually got to speak in Doric, his grandfather used to speak it, they wanted something no one could understand and were going to make something up until he suggested speaking Doric to them* :)
Just found out he was in Greys Anatomy :)
Edit* sorry if my comment was too much I got excited by the movie and went on a rant about the actor since a lot of my family spoke Doric growing up.
My favourite horror film. The fact that it’s set in Scotland is just a bonus. Glad you enjoyed
It made me so happy and excited to see you so happy and excited watching this. Good actors and good writers make good movies if they are given the chance. Great reaction!
And gotta say probably one off the best lines in movie history...i hope i give you the shits...what a way to go...also notice alot off rawkes drift zulu references in the film..i must have watched 50 times..this film..
Have you seen the picture of Sean dressed up as his dad? I think he did it for a Halloween party a few years ago.
@@MarcusBurkenhare No I never knew about that, but that is cool, I have a look out for it. Thanks.
John was one of my favourite Doctors and brilliant with voices.
The football match they keep mentioning and shown in a newspaper at the end of the film in which England beat Germany 5-1 was real and was played on 1st September 2001 which is the date this film takes place.
One of the best UK horror films. 👍
I missed out because a few years back, one of the werewolf costumes came up for auction. I think is sold for $1000. I would LOVE to have that costume!
Sean Pertwee is the Son of John Pertwee who played the Third Doctor (Original Series).
He's starred in so many great films notably as Mace in the underated Soldier with Kurt Russell and as father in Equilibrium.
One of my favourite films. I watch it at least once a month. So glad you enjoyed it.
There was talk about making a sequel involving the American special forces (which would be Hollywood fied) and ruin a really good simple story line, so am grateful they didn't in the end.
Love this film it's hilarious the humour reminds me of when I was in the force's on exercise.
I love your enthusiasm and your reactions. Your narrative is excellent.
Still got this on video cassette. 😂
I remember watching this on the SciFi channel back in the day when I was a kid, had no idea what to expect and was blown away. A very fun movie
One of the most underrated British movies as they all are.
You made me laugh Alan with that little Red Riding Hood👌😂😂
Cooper is the original OG Soap McTavish from MW2
I remember seeing this movie at the cinema, and the super glue bit has stuck with me ever since.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil is such a good, and often overlooked film. It's a pity they never made any sequels, as I think they'd be great.
@@simonwatson5299 Tudyk's great in everything I've seen him in + the other guy's underrated too. It could totally work.
@@wulfgold Yeah, Alan Tudyk in Firefly, brilliant scifi show.
+Death at a Funeral is excellent and Resident Alien's alright for gentle humour.
Daily Mail "Werewolves ate My Platoon" 😂
Noticed straight away the attachment on the SA80 they've not got live ammo
Wouldn't matter if they had ammo for the 80 it probably wouldn't work anyway, it's a peice of rubbish weapon!lol.
The attachment is a safety feature, it heavily reduces the range and damage of live rounds, removing it will make the weapon live
@@daverutherford6401 yeah.... no.
the yellow attachment is a BFA= blank fire attachment to get recoil with blank ammo so the TA unit had no live ammo.
Great reaction to a great movie. Loved how your facial expression remained calm and collected right up until that sword contacted Coop's teeth 🤣Definitely worth a like and sub.
Been years since I've seen this movie. Forgot how amazing it was
I like the Matrix "There is no spoon" reference makes me laugh every time
4:15 - it’s just introducing the principle characters.
Great reaction! I love this movie. 😊
OMG, thank you so much
Loving the subtitles around 24:37 - "Christmas!" "I don't mind, you?"
Subtitles be wild sometimes.
Hi Ian from Scotland I watched this when it came out it scared the shit out of me .a well crafted movie .
I haven't played D&D for over 30 years, your references to D damage brought it all back!
i also agree the banter etc that was us but hey love Spoonie
The sarge was Sean Pertwee, Son of a very famous british actor John Pertwee, he was also appeared in Gotham,Event Horizon,Doomsday and has many voice acting credits, Coops was played by Kevin McKidd, from Greys anatomy, trainspotting, and the incredible show "Rome" Capt Ryan, the SF guy was the Onion Knight Davos Seaworth from game of thrones otherwise known as Liam Cunningham...
Yeah I realized Davos after I finished when I was editing. I knew I'd seen the other 2 and had to look on IMDb.
Pertwee has always been one favorite chap of mine in movies. Nobody does officer roles better.
the yellow things are called BFA's Blank firing attachments, used on exercises where blank rounds are used, loud bangs, no bullets....
Oh, by the way, the sequel was going to be called Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat.
You need to watch an American werewolf in London my friend 👍that's the best werewolf film ever
@@ryandowning9396 agreed
It is a fantastic film you are spot on
@@elaineshakeshaft2830 you've got great taste 👍
@@ryandowning9396 thank you
Yep, although I personally live The Howling and the recent Howl, also with Sean Pertwee.
So the faces you probably recognise the most:
Sean Pertwee was Alfred in 'Gotham', Father in 'Equilibrium', and he was also in 'Event Horizon' and 'Doomsday'.
He was also in the remake of 'Clash of the Titans', 'Hunger', 'Harry Brown', 'War Horse' and he was the voice of Duncan/Man-At-Arms in Kevin Smith's 'Masters of the Universe' series.
one of the best movies i have watched, great show with lost of uk humour
My favourite British horror film has to be the wicker man, the ending is truly shocking 😮
Luv ya dude. The subtitles to this video are hilarious.
One of the best werewolf movies, evah!
Love the start- 'Coitus Interruptus via Werewolf'! (Gotta love Brit./U.K. humor!)
Being 1/2 Native American, a USMC Veteran, I've spent most of this life 'Outside/Camping/other,' so found your joke about why people are so into 'Camping' when they carry their worldly belongings with them!
:-)
That is probably the best werewolf movie ever made, so glad you watched it and enjoyed it.
At some point you'll have to check out the 1984 docudrama Threads about a nuclear apocalypse. It's very old now but it is still shocking and relevant.
Think it's getting another mainstream tv airing over here soon maybe.
@@wulfgold The BBC have put it up on their iPlayer uncut and in full. It's still still harrowing.
I've got to edit it. I reacted to Threads before I reacted to this. This instantly become one of my favorite reactions so you seen it first.

Yeah that's another barmy film
An absolute riot
The f*cked up cockney rhyming slang. It's supposed to rhyme but it don't. Even the other cockney old folks in the home don't understand him!
And the Zimmer frame chase
😂😂😂
On a more serious note, wasn't Richard Briers' last part in this film?
Probably the best werewolf film ever
Wales ,the area that Cooper was undergoing special forces selection, likely meant to depict the Brecon Beacons and Sennybridge........the only part of the world where it can be blazing sun, howling winds, horizontal rain, driving snow and blizzards, gail force hail, thick fog and back to blazing sun within 1 day. Just as likely to collapse from heat exhaustion and exposure as well as hypothermia.
I work there. It's incredibly beautiful but a tad temperamental.
Haven’t seen this movie in such a long time. Forgot how good it was. Thanks for bringing it back. Think I’ll have to buy it now.
You can now see Coop as Dr Owen Hunt on Greys Anatomy.
I loved this reaction 👍🏽👍🏽
Those yellow what names on the end of the rifles are BFAs, Blank Firing Attachments. They're used for the continual firing of a weapon and to stop bits of the blank flying too far, something to that effect anyway, I'm sure someone can clarify that or correct me. Cheers.
* Great film by the way! I've not seen it for ages and might just have to procure a copy.😁
one of my favorite werewolf depictions, if not #1.
The yellow thing on the rifle is a BFA... Blank firing attachment. It basically allows the weapon to cycle blanks in semi auto and auto as without it there is not enough gas pressure in a blank to cycle the action.
Absolutely love this movie
Sarge was played by Sean Pertwee (son of Jon Pertwee - Doctor Who)
And Cooper was played by Kevin McKidd, who was in Trainspotting and was in the US Hospital Show Grey’s Anatomy for a couple of seasons.
Classic movie 👌🏻🔥
love the fact the full moon should have ben a giveaway and not the arm that drags the woman from the tent then the silver letter opener, I'll get back to watching now as this is my favourite movie
It's a very British black comedy/horror film. Love it.
The yellow thing on the barrels of their rifles is a blank firing attachment (BFA) used when firing blank rounds on training exercises.
The yellow part on the SA80-A1 is the BFA Blank Fireing Attachment, only used with blank training rounds.
They are dogs soldiers just becauze they are soldiers basically hunting dogs
As a 16 year old soldier in 2003 this film was shown so much and its so accurate of how squaddies are.
@@grrgoyle_uk Good point, I suppose in human form the silver didn't hurt :)
