@Cousin Dan Draisaitl has more goals and points. McDavid is superior in every aspect of the game and Crosby has dominated against Ovi in head to head. Ovi is an elite goal scorer, like top 3 all time but when all is said and done he's behind Crosby and McDavid probably surpasses both.
Thanks for putting together this hockey superstar list. Was not aware of Young guns until last year when opened some packs and watched Zeeree on UA-cam. Have collected some rookie patch autos of current Avalanche stars and vintage greats.
Forgot to mention this in my last comment. Out of all the Young Guns on this list, the Henrik Zetterberg might end up having the lowest graded POP count permanently, due to it being a Super Short Printed young gun. The rest of the Young Guns on this list were in sets that got 6 young guns per hobby box. The set that Zetterberg is in, "2002-03 Upper Deck Series 1", SSP Young Guns were only 1 per hobby box. They were not found in retail boxes. Glad to see more hockey on this channel. Would love to see a Top 20 list on SP Authentic "Future Watch" rookies. But obviously, it would be a lot harder to get the data, due to the fact that they are all serial numbered to /999 or less.
THANK YOU! I love all sports but hockey was my first sport I really got into both watching and playing. So of course when I realized they made hockey cards as well as baseball cards which was about 2 years after I started collecting lol... I went big into hockey cards thankfully just for a PC and not for investing, aside from hockey being the least valuable of the "big 4" this time period was smack in the middle of junk wax. Anyway I've been watching the hobby on UA-cam and rarely see much hockey as expected but glad you are jumping in for at least one video so I can see where the sport is at in the hobby from "the best UA-camr in the game" lol... you really have the best channel for facts/tips/current info in the hobby, and appreciate your channel very much. Thank you again Chris.
Zetterburg & Datsyuk surprised me a bit, but they call it hockey town for a reason. Not to mention the rust-belt has some of the best collectors. Of course I am a michigan kid who's dad was a dealer so I'm going to have some loyalty.
I have a lot to check... I just bought a bunch (almost 700) of brand new hockey cards all mixed (years, brands, etc.). That is without talking about the 1000+ brand new hockey ones that i bought in the last 2 months... And then all the baseball and football ones also... 😊😉 Thanks for sharing all that research.
The pop report on PSA 10 Marc Andre Fluery RCs is very low, doesn’t come up for sale very often. That’s def why recent BGS 9.5 sales have bumped it above PSA 10 sales. I sold my PSA 10 a year ago for $1700 & I don’t think there’s been a sale since. Even back in the day when Crosby PSA 10 was going for $300-$400, the Fleury PSA 10 was also in the high $300s
Let me know if anyone can name a better rookie crop than the 1990-91 Upper Deck High Series? For me this is going down as the greatest NHL rookie card set of all time! It includes 11 Hall of Famers with possibly two more to add to that list. The eleven Hall of Famers are, Jamomir Jagr, Mats Sundin, Pavel Bure, Sergei Fedorov, Scott Niedermayer, Mike Modano, Rob Blake, Ed Belfour, Mark Recchi, Igor Larionov and Sergei Makarov. The other two players that should be getting in at some point are Jeremy Roenick and Alexander Mogilny, for a grand total of 13 Hall of Famers. The rest of this list are rookies who were really high quality NHL players that came in this set, they are, Mike Richter, Peter Bondra, Owen Nolan, Petr Nedved, Keith Primeau, Rod Brind'amour, Curtis Joseph, Mathiew Schneider, Kevin Stevens, Adam Graves, Mike Ricci, Trevor Kidd, Darren Turcotte, Jyrki Lumme, Bobby Holik, Robert Reichel, Felix Potvin and Pat Falloon.
@@paulsmith5150 I know, he is an absolute HALL OF FAMER. I was a kid in Winnipeg when after a game during his rookie season, he was about to load on to the team bus when my brother and I come running after him to have him signed our hockey cards. Mogilny's translator tried to hurry him on the bus but told he told him NO, I SIGN FOR THE KIDS! I will always respect him for that!
@@collectorinvestordealer Absolutely ridiculous that the low pop 90-91 UD French rookies of some of these greats like Bure and Fedorov and friends do not currently command the higher values that they deserve. This should change over time as hobby respect for Hockey cycles back into the collectors mindset soon as the sport revives on ESPN and Ovechkin marching toward Gretzky. Do people realize that Pavel Bure was the most "electrifying" hockey player of all time.
Need to make a Top 30 List.... Amazingly missing the cut... Rick Nash . Patrick Laine.. Steven Stamkos.. Tyler Seguin.. Phil Kessel.. John Tavares .. Mitch Marner

I have a lot of these cards in a storage locker. Time to start digging them out. I love the Towes 2007-08 OPC Micromotion card (I believe it’s number but I’m not sure).
The biggest surprise is how much the value for all these Young Guns have dramatically increased the past 2 years. Even more surprising is huge gap between PSA 10s and BGS 9.5s now. That value gap was a lot smaller in 2019. For a very long time, the hockey market had preferred BGS over PSA when it came to modern cards. Now that's completely changed, at least when it comes to Young Guns. I owned most of these Young Guns over the years. I'm cringing at the Young Guns I sold before 2020. Wish I could have kept the McDavid, Ovechkin, Zetterberg, Fleury, Bergeron, Burns and others on this list. Most of the were sold in 2017, when I definitely needed money. Was hoping I could buy them back again, but was unable to. Now, it will definitely cost me a lot more to get them all back.
Thank you for covering this sport! I never knew the modern Young Guns series went as far as 1990! I forgot about the early 1990s ones too. I recently added vintage Hockey to my pc when I got a few thousand 1973 to 1983 cards over a 1 year period. Upper Deck hockey is such a great product design wise too!
another great video! hockey is the sport i know the most about by a very long margin so it was nice to know that fact of most recent stars to have played for only one team. very cool! thanks for posting and all the best to you. regards from Portugal
Its amazing to see Marchand at #15 being that aside from Boston fans he is one of the most hated players in the league. You don't earn the nickname "the rat" for nothing
These are the type of cards someone could have in their collection or garage and not even know it. Some amazing grading arbitrage even at $150/card on the top 10.
I don't know many people buying hockey packs who aren't following the sport and know the players they're pulling. Young Guns are the definition of chase cards in hockey collecting.
Very interesting video and great information. Three bruins in top 20 and all play on the same line. Guess that makes the name the "Perfection Line" live up to expectations.
Another great list Chris. Wish I still had 5 or 6 of those. I am shocked that Ovi out sell's Crosby. That is a bet I would have lost (you did just fine with the names this time around)
Thanks for this video chris. I’m a huge supporter and I’m primarily a hockey collector so it was nice to see a video dedicated to hockey. Keep up the great work
Thanks for the list and hockey content. Top 3 wasn’t a surprise. The one that surprised me was the Patrice Bergeron that high on the list. Very good player, but not flashy and more a good two way center. Probably more rare and harder to find than cards from the last 5-6 years.
Malkin is considered the 4th of the big 4 of his era (Ovi Crosby Kane Malkin). If it gets cut to 3, Malkin does get dropped. Kane edges him out for various reasons mostly involving the insane clutch playoff work, dynasty, and point streaks. Interestingly Malkin and Kane are the only two players in history I believe to meet the following criteria: 3 or more Cups, Calder, Smythe, Hart, Ross, Lindsey. So Geno is generally respected as an all time great. He is underrated I agree but that's bc of Crosby being there the whole time. Overshadowed by both Crosby and Ovi.
Hockey players (and teams) place value on loyalty, as evidenced by your research. Hockey fans take loyalty to another, nearly obsessive, level altogether. Baseball and hockey are my two favorite sports. Football is a distant third, and I can barely see it in the rear view mirror.

Great topic as I’ve been looking for something like this to compile my modern Hockey card want list. Question for anyone here: Do you think modern Hockey cards are overpriced? Modern NBA and NFL cards have been steadily declining for the past 9 months, while MLB cards are declining but not as much. How are hockey cards holding their value in the post Covid era for this hobby? Or is there less transactions for Hockey cards so it’s harder to track trends? For example, a Luka Doncic Prizm rookie continues to fall cause you get so many transactions a week.
Hadn't bought Hockey cards since around 1992, but with the lack of baseball cards in retail stores throughout 2020, I decided to buy a blaster of 19-20 UD Hockey. Ended up getting a Jack Hughes Young Guns which since then has hovered between $60-$100 raw. Don't know that much about the sport but I figure its a card to hold. Would love to hear any opinions on this.
As a Canadian who could skate before I could walk maybe I could chime in a bit :) Jack Hughes in his draft year was said to be the next Patrick Kane (who was featured in this video). He is a very creative and fun player to watch. He also has a very likeable character and represents a shift in the younger hockey generation for charisma and being more outspoken. He also recently had his younger brother Luke Hughes drafted 7th overall to NJ devils this past draft. For his overall play, Jack was looking like a bust in his rookie season, having one of the worst rookie seasons in points for a 1st overall pick in NHL history. However this year he seemed to have turned a corner and was a key reason why NJ was having such an impressive start and was undoubtedly looking more to form for a 1st overall draft pick. He then got injured and is slated to return pretty soon here. Overall it’s a little bit of a risky hold but defiantly has the upside and hype to warrant taking a shot at holding it! Take care !
ouch that hurts to see....sold a few of my mcdavids around 2017-18 for 150-200 each. Sold a couple marchands I had for 30 bucks each back then as well.
Too bad that OPC Premier 90-91 didn’t include Bure(UD High) & Eric Lindros (Score had exclusive rights)(UD was allowed to use his WJC image on a checklist).
I’ve been out of the hobby since pretty much those first Young Guns came out. This is the first time I’ve seen rookie cards of some of hockey’s greatest stars. I’m hoping to put together Red Wings team sets. I hope raw Zetterbergs and Datsyuks are considerably lower than graded.
@@collectorinvestordealer Thank you! It's certainly a lot different than when I was in it before, mostly in a good way. Channels like yours are one of the good things that didn't exist back in the early 1990s when I was still in it.
I love hockey and hockey cards, but I refuse to pay crazy prices for Young Guns cards, so I make sure to buy a set that includes the rookies as part of the base set. These days, that's OPC Platinum. The year with Crosby and Ovechkin rookies, I bought an Upper Deck MVP set for $100 that has both of their rookie cards, instead of paying $300 just for a Crosby Young Guns, which was how much that card was selling for when it first came out. But watching this video didn't cost me anything, so I liked it!
@@GuyIncognito575 I haven't bought a hockey card box of any brand for years because they all cost a fortune and you can never complete the set, so I just buy complete base sets. It's so much cheaper that way. I don't care if I don't have the opportunity to find a rare insert.
Thanks for making this video Chris! Currently have 12 of these 20, most of them in SGC 10s, which I feel are underpriced while SGC gains traction with hockey. The hunt continues...
@@spic0li You are welcome to your opinion, but the money I am making on SGC's stellar service speaks far more loudly to me than the opinion of some random person on the internet who brings up vintage hockey as an argument in a Young Guns conversation.
I don't mind Young Guns but I prefer numbered rookies such as Artifacts, the Cup and Trilogy. I understand the hobby considers Young Guns the official RC. Thanks for this though, hockey is my favorite.
Young Guns will always be the most iconic desired non-auto rookie card imo. A bit like Topps in Baseball. The Cup and SPA are the auto cards that are the equivalent of the 1stBowman Chrome auto. Absolutely love UD Hockey and SP Authentic( The Cup is too pricey). Hockey has become my favourite hobby in the last 18 months. Great looking cards.
You will regret saying that if he breaks Gretzkys goal scoring record (looking good right now). His cards will seem cheap at these prices!! Pastrnak, Marchand and Bergeron all seem high to me, but for different reasons- Marchand is so hated around the league- surprised his cards are worth anything outside of Boston and his hometown.
I appreciate the Hockey upload. Hockey is my PC. I'm excited for this. Thank you!
One of the things I love about hockey are the stars stay loyal to the team that drafted them. I thought Crosby #1 & Ovechkin #2 😂
“Johnny T begins sweating nervously”
Just a FYI, even though Crosby and Ovechkin YG both came out the same season, the S1 Crosby has about 1/3rd the print run of the S2 Ovechkin.
@Cousin Dan Tell me you don't know hockey without telling me you don't know hockey.
@Cousin Dan yes, hitting is so important. Keep proving my point.
Thanks for putting together this hockey superstar list. Was not aware of Young guns until last year when opened some packs and watched Zeeree on UA-cam. Have collected some rookie patch autos of current Avalanche stars and vintage greats.
Zeree is probably the best hockey card channel on youtube. He's a riot, too.
For the best long term investment, I would go with Young Guns, OPC Platinum, Clear Cut, The Cup!

The Luongo Young Guns card is actually a 3rd year card, so that's probably why. His RCs are from '97-98 and his YG is from '99-00.

@@collectorinvestordealer Thank you! It's certainly a lot different than when I was in it before, mostly in a good way. Channels like yours are one of the good things that didn't exist back in the early 1990s when I was still in it.
Very surprised to see Burns and bergeron on the list...
Bergeron is a future hall of famer and he’s from Quebec
Surprised by Bergeron? Is this a serious comment?
The Connor McDavid PSA 10 is only going up. I wouldn’t be surprised if that card reaches $10k if he wins a Stanley cup and another Hart award.
Awesome video!!!
I'm like you. I collect Artifacts. Young Guns are overhyped; they aren't even numbered unless you get the high gloss/exclusive.
Thanks for making this video Chris! Currently have 12 of these 20, most of them in SGC 10s, which I feel are underpriced while SGC gains traction with hockey. The hunt continues...
My god what are you smoking SGC is not a place to send hockey cards to be graded especially vintage. 🙄🙄🙄
@@spic0li You are welcome to your opinion, but the money I am making on SGC's stellar service speaks far more loudly to me than the opinion of some random person on the internet who brings up vintage hockey as an argument in a Young Guns conversation.
@@Lashwine. lol so your triggered over my opinion on your SGC recommendations & take it out on me for a YG argument?
Thank you!
i was stoked to pull a lafreniere young guns but i think that will end up selling for 5 bucks in the near future lol
great vid
psst. hey. here's a tip fellow hockey collectors. Huberdeau and Barkov young guns are cheap af rn.
When the Panthers are in the final 4 this playoffs or next, people will wish they acted on your advice.
@@toblujay you know the drill
I don't mind Young Guns but I prefer numbered rookies such as Artifacts, the Cup and Trilogy. I understand the hobby considers Young Guns the official RC. Thanks for this though, hockey is my favorite.
Very true the young guns are the cheaper route though
Depending on player of course
@@WestSideWill1 Sure, compared to the Cup, but Artifacts and Trilogy are cheaper.
@@starscream5263 again depending on player I pc a player that doesn't have a young gun but has everything else
Fantastic video
Good interview on Saturday man! I thought Austin Matthews would be higher on the list, but agree on most, also I think Ovechkin is a bit OVER-RATED
Overrated?? You know nothing about hockey
