I agree with you point. However, it should be stressed that manufactures do as much as they can to make things unclear. It seems they take advantage of this grey area cause it would be so easy to clarify who worn that jersey and when
Thank you for this exploration into the ambiguities and nuances of game-used memorabilia. I really enjoy listening to drops like this. Purposefully misleading language is not unlikely; and, I have also wondered if different iterations of word-smithing accounts for variances in what kind of patch they are including in each and every card, thus absolving them from having to stay mindful of each and every context/player/item... A more general statement allows for a wider swatch of swatch 🤓
What's your opinion of Topps relic cards? Same issue? Since Panini is losing licenses, I'm wondering if the same thing is or will happen when Topps starts making basketball, football, etc. cards.
I like the Topps baseball relics with holo, but I know they've also been vague on a lot of their stuff in the past, too. They did a good job with the Wemby Mercury relics, but I don't think the stuff in Topps Midnight etc is even player-worn (I will need to verify when I see more). This shows me that they can do a good job with relics when they want to.
Panini left the wording open-ended on purpose. Some lebron relic cards that say the material is game worn are worn by other players other than LeBron James. If it was actually worn by LeBron James, they would have stated it was and not try to hide anything.
Steven Adams. Pictured in a Pelicans Jersey, the card says Memphis Grizzlies, and the back of the card says the relic is from a Thunder jersey which it's obviously not...and you're defending them
The sandwich company has set up the perfect opportunity for Topps to get game worn/used stuff from top NFL players and, if they start putting holograms on top patches/players like they do for MLB, bring back value to jersey patch cards for football. I haven't trusted anything in football products since Donruss/Playoff stopped with the actual photo of the jersey on the reverse of the cards. If Topps gets Mahomes game used patches, and authenticates is somehow, it will help immensely in the NFL market.
I’ve always assumed: Game worn/used - Worn by the depicted player in actual game Player worn - Worn by the player depicted in an event for Panini Not associated with any game/event - Off the rack from sporting goods store, never worn by player I absolutely think Panini has used game worn LeBron James jerseys in their relic cards. These jerseys didn’t carry a ton of value before the COVID boom. If you look back at old auctions, you could get a game worn LeBron jersey for $1500-3000 pre-2019. Even if they are paying up for current auctions, a single box of Flawless or National Treasures sells for more than an entire game worn LeBron jersey. They could spend $15,000 on a LeBron jersey and cut it into 800 pieces and use it across multiple products
I have some 2008 Upper Deck Game Night Souvenir Game-Worn relic cards. My Kevin Garnett card says specifically “worn BY KEVIN GARNETT as a member of the T-Wolves”. The same year and set card of Lebron James only says “certified as being used in an NBA game”. No reference to Lebron at all. Frustrating and sneaky. Upper Deck says all information for these cards have been lost. 🤷♂️
really don’t understand the point of destroying the card 😂 like what were they expecting? It’s non-associated lol they need to put down the Sherlock Holmes pipe because there’s no mystery here 😅
My personal opinion is if they put a certain player on a card then it should be from that player. That's what drives the value up and if it's a LeBron jersey card but not from any specific player or game and it turns out LeBron never wore it, that should make the card worthless. If it's him on the card then it should be his jersey. For the price these boxes sell for and the cards sell for it seems like a big profit scam for card companies. They're obviously not paying high dollars for the jerseys so then why are the boxes so so expensive? It's a big scam and should be stopped or put the actual jersey in the card of the player indicated. It's worthless if it's a jersey bought from Amazon or Walmart.
@@Sportscardangler I stay far away from the stuff that says it's non-associated. The only reason I even have that Thompson is because it came in a Rockets lot I bought at a show! Thanks for weighing in!

I actually like this phenomenon….it means there are fewer jersey cards in the pop, so now my common jersey cards are more valuable…. LESS GOOOOO!!!!!!
Quality video and take as always
@@rugbyrocks5 thank you for taking the time to watch!
Great breakdown! I wonder if the fad of cutting relic cards up and the following discussions about them will prompt any change from the manufacturers?
At this point, I doubt it will. But we can try! Maybe Fanatics will try to court collectors like Panini did early on.
Great insights.
So what you’re telling me is there is a chance!!!!!!!

That happens a lot. A player can be pictured in a new uniform, but the back say game worn from a previous team. As long a it's game used
