CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Della (Kerry Washington) lectures Ray ("Jamie Foxx":javascript:void(0)/*259*/) about his drug addiction in a way she knows will get through to him -- by putting it in terms of his music.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Directed by Taylor Hackford, this biopic profiles the life of legendary musician Ray Charles. Despite humble beginnings and the loss of his eyesight due to glaucoma at the age of six, Charles, depicted by Jamie Foxx, would nonetheless become an icon in both the music industry and the civil rights era. While the film delves into his problems with drugs and women, the bulk of the story details his career; among the highlights of that career are 12 Grammy awards and 11 R&B chart-toppers, such as "Unchain My Heart," "Hit the Road, Jack," "Georgia," "Doin' the Mess Around," and "Hallelujah I Just Love Her So." Also among the cast are Larenz Tate as Quincy Jones, as well as Regina King, Kerry Washington, and Clifton Powell. Charles' son, Ray Charles Jr. helped produce the film.

"Blind but still afraid of the dark" wow that's deep... fear is a mf.
You are misinterpreting. He was saying how fast he went blind while still being young enough to be still afraid of the dark.
@@blackwomanorangecat nope you just slow 🤯everyone else seem to understand but you 🤪🤣🤣
@@blackwomanorangecat Right lol
@@blackwomanorangecat The only thing that was more upsetting to him was losing his brother due to the accidental drowning.
@@blackwomanorangecat No. He interpreted it correctly. The next phrase goes with it.
Phenomenal. Love the fact that she's aware his music is his first love and wasn't afraid to admit it. Some women would rather put themselves first.
@Notre Aira No gender needs to prioritize another gender. Both should work equally for their earnings. Sadly women, still can't seem to grasp that. Still marrying and divorcing men to take their crap.
@@axxne6068 And men still can't understand it either. And women still getting paid less.
Plen122 Link your sources to where it factually displays women being paid less.
@@axxne6068 just search for wage gap statistics. You'll find it.
@@kbanghart Not everything is true.
That’s the type of discussion only a real woman can say
And if your lucky
That woman loves you
If she didn't love you, she wouldn't say it
I love this movie, Jamie Foxx and Kerry Washington stars Django Unchained and Ray 2004. They both great actors/ actress, and because they look so good together.
She got his arse alllllll the way together!
If a man's woman can't tell him the Truth, even when it hurts he has a no good woman by his side .
BEST STATE MENT EVER ,
THANK YOU MS. THUNDER.
Some men would cut the woman loose if she told the hurtful truth. Glad Ray didn't.
🎉well Put. Clear as Crystal
Shes a wonderful wife
For every drug addict: "Is that poison worth losing everything?"
Speak on what you know
lowkey
addicts don't care. it's a sickness
I used to shoot dope. And guess what, It is. It really is worth losing everything. Thats how bad it is.
Nothing is worth going back though.
@@castlehill6717 theres good dope in castle hill. Next to the old navy
The writing was just fantastic in this scene. The phone ringing as to wake up Ray and he shuts it down is a great symbol of his Wife telling him to put down the needle as it is indeed a wake-up call. Perfect!
"Look at this"
Well..
Tabloid Junkie LOL
Yh but you could see the way he felt it almost in an observational way, as touch is probably a much larger sense for him to rely on to “see”. Obviously he can’t use his eyes, but it still wouldn’t impact the way his wife and family spoke to him in an everyday manner so she could’ve easily just said it by accident but still not literally telling him to use his eyes to look at it, but rather take a moment as her husband to pay attention to his achievements and the many ways that heroin did him no favours.
Tabloid Junkie 😂😂😂 shush
LOL gag
Woman! How can I look at this, when I cant even look myself in the eyes!?!?
Underrated performance by the lovely Kerry Washington she should've won an Oscar or Oscar nomination smh
Agreed
Well she didn't Maybe she wasn't as good
Well she didn't, get over it. Nobheads.
mezalong relax it’s not that serious...🤡
ABSOLUTELY! 💯
Hands down one of the best films ever made. So many lessons for all of us, so beautiful... a classic
That a real woman. Definitely a keeper.
"you ever look at this?!"
....he's blind...
I swear, this movie set up so many jokes🤣
He can picture shapes in his mind. She forces his hands more around the trophy, so he actually "sees" it better, gets a better picture. By asking if he ever looked at the trophy, is if he understood how much it really means to him
He sees with his hands. That's why she forces his hands to touch it.
He can feel it. I laughed fora millisecond but I immediately surfaced
He can feel it, and know what it is. That was not a joke!
"You ever look at this Ray? Really look at it!"
Lmao, I cant help laughing even under all that seriousness xD

DENVER FOWLER
But notice she says “really look at it” while shoving it in his hands.. because in the beginning of the movie his mother taught him to use his hands as his eyes. And that’s why she still tells him to look while she’s putting it in his hands because those are his eyes.
"you dont know how hard it is to go blind, and still be scared of the dark?" that made me sad....
I cried on this scene. Especially the part when she handed him his sons trophy.
She did so well. I love how she cuts him off everytime he starts conjuring up excuses. She really made me feel this scene.
"Do you ever look at this ray, I MEAN REALLY LOOK AT IT?"
I'm gonna guess no on that one.
Do you ever look at this ray Ok how is a blind man gonna see anything expecily a trophy.
@@ashleysmith8402 Yeah... unless it is figurative and not literal.
Because it _is_ figurative and not literal.
no, ray can see it with his hands, its a little term with blind people, he felt the trophy the same way a normal people would "look at it". and she also gave some context of what the trophy meant to his son.
That’s why she tightened his hands around it so he could “see”
I looooooooooove this on-screen couple, Jamie and Kerry...They're just like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslate who also have often been paired to act as a couple on films...They both great actor/tress and really look good together...
Seeing Kerry Washington's acting here, especially in this scene, I think she also deserved to win or just to be the nominee of Oscar for Best Actress category...
ironically Jamie Foxx won best actor for Ray over Leonardo DiCaprio for The Aviator that year.
I personally feel that was the wrong choice.
I believe that someday Leo will win an Oscar too...Just keep supporting and believe in Leo...
Both Leo and Jamie were great actors...
Beatrix957 I hope he wins for The wolf of wall street
Yeah...I hope so...
Beatrix957 His character might be too controversial for the academy to give him the Oscar.
One of my favorite scenes from this movie. Kerry killed this. Very dramatic...
She deserves her flowers for this scene. Everyone talks about Jamie, but Kerry definitely was his supplement in this movie.
Phenomenal acting from Kerry and Jamie great movie.
As a young father myself I’ve been in this situation too many times I was young and dumb I’m glad I got that wake up call too cause when my babymom left with my son it really open my eyes and I became a better father and man after that
glad to see you're doing better
God Bless 🙏🏾
🙏🙏🙏
"Did you ever look at this?! LOOK AT IT RAY!"
...Married so long and still hasn't got a clue why the glasses, sheesh...
I can't breathe😂😂😂💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀😂
czolgistta you know that you are wrong for that! ! Lol
He "looked" at things through his sense of touch
"slow much"
Married so long that the glasses don't matter.
uh...it was a joke. "slow much?"
Kerry Washington was outstanding in this, she didn't even get a damn nomination either. smh
Psycho She definitely had a Oscar type performance.
That's the Oscars for ya
"If you don't stop using that needle, they gon take away your music and put you in jail. Is that poison worth losing everything?" That hit home and woke him up fr.
KERRY WASHINGTON DESERVED AN OSCAR, REGINA KING DESERVED AN OSCAR AND CLIFTON POWELL DEFINITELY DESERVED AN OSCAR, ALONG WITH JAMIE FOXX.
Yea love her and she's beautiful 😍
When she grabbed that trophy, I thought that she was gonna use it to defend herself against Ray.
Funny how he's tired about hearing god but when he hears about his family it actually makes him think twice
Django and Broomhilda, i just noticed that
YO FOR REAL HOW DID I IGNORE THAT FOR SO LONG
I KNOW WHY BEVAUSE JAIMIE IS SUCH A GOOD ACTOR I BELIEVED HE WAS RAY CHARLES IN THIS MOVIE NOT JAIMIE PLAYING HIM
His wife ♡♡♡♡'s him told him abt his affairs he tried to play it off.
That got to him. That really got to him. Putting that trophy in his hands, and asking him what is more important, his music and his son, or the dope. He needed to hear that.
This scene is sobering for me to watch because my stepdad is an alcoholic and I have a hard time understanding why he seems to love the drink more than mom, me, and my siblings. I know the reason is addiction is a terrible disease but my mind can’t seem to comprehend why we aren’t worth it.
I’m so sorry for your pain, when you addicted to drugs or alcohol your personality changes to the extent That the substance almost possesses you. I’ speak from experience I’m addicted to prescription painkillers and the last 8 years had made me not care about much at all. I’m really sorry but addiction is so strong that addicts would sell their mothers for a fix. I don’t think that I’m probably explaining it well, it’s hard, only users/addicts know how it effects the mind. I can understand why you can’t comprehend the way your dad is too you all, buts it’s not that you mean nothing to him, his just consumed with his addiction.
I’m really sorry I really wanted to help explain but I don’t think I’ve helped at all. I hope that your dad gets help and that things improve for you. Take care
It's a helpless feeling when someone you love is caught up in the junk.
Jamie foxx did a damn good performance on this movie💯💯💯💯💯💯
I’m suprise that the movie didn’t win a Oscar for Best Picture
too real. men need more women like that.
You mean more men need to appreciate women like this, because we are here, just not appreciated

@GhettoKidSwag:
People of African decent DO have a different dialect when speaking 90% of the time. It's called diversity and it's not a bad thing. To pretend that doesn't exist is just as insulting. Why get mad at someone for pointing it out?
We're NOT all the same and we do not all speak the same, look the same and act the same. And that's what keeps the world interesting.
the world would be a boring place if we were all the same...most languages have any number of different dialects and as you say, that's cool...but if you go out into the business world and you can't speak proper english there are consequences...
Juliana Brown People of African descent???? PEOPLE, full stop, have different dialects when speaking. For example, white southerners from Mississippi have their own dialect. Cockneys in England have their own dialect. Etc. etc. ad infinitum. It's the nature of humanity to speak like those who surround them. Nothing to do with "African descent". The ignorance is real, even among those who think they are so knowledgeable.

They bail quick AF....
Mike Bryant u right even over the stupidest things !! Everybody lost
Mike Bryant she has every right to leave a drug addict that neglects his kids and would do anything to get high, AND cheats on her while on tour. But she didn’t because she wanted to
Great performance between the both of them
“What you talking bout, God? You have any idea how it feels to go BLIND? And still be afraid of the dark….” Real asf !
“Look at it, really look it”
....oh?
She saved Ray in this scene
Supreme acting by both of them.
It’s tragic that people have to get to utter ruin sometimes before they finally turn in the right direction. I’m glad that he got off the drugs.
I cry Everytime I watch this movie it's very hard to watch 🥺💔
She did this scene good.
The acting in this movie was incredible.
this is so moving
Jamie Fox looks like Ray
Hollywood made it that way even ray Charles made shure Jamie act like him.
Happy Father's day to you ray
That is a phenomenal wife
Do you know how it feels to go blind and still be afraid of the dark 😓
I wonder if Jamie Foxx can do the same comedian film like Horrible Bosses with Jennifer Aniston, Charlie Day & Kevin Spacey in 2011 of the scene!
she knew damn well he couldn't look at that trophy 💀
Ray: della how the HELL I'm going to see that damn trophy you know I'm blind.
@@ashleysmith8402 🤣🤣🤣

That is not what she meant!
Look at it, Ray, LOOK AT IT.
Ray was a damn good additic think about being blind and shooting up. He could literally feel the difference between the needle being in a vien and not because he wouldn't be able to see the blood flash into the syringe he had such good senses that he could feel the difference between being in and out.
Great point!
Best performance
I feel sorry for heroine users because they can't help it but everyone else sees it as an excuse
you CAN help it.
Mmmh It IS an excuse. They can help it. They just don't. They say they do but if they really did want to get sober they would be sober by now.

god is good great at all times
I've lost someone kind of like this that wrecked a large part of my life, this scene hit me hard out of nowhere in my recommendations, wtf youtube 😒 😭
Kerry Washington born in The Bronx
Tough love is hard, but extremely necessary.
1:15-1:18
1:22-1:54
is my favorite part of the video ‼️
Damn, everything about this was emotional
I find that no one ever wants to communicate with people with problems they just wanna yell at them punish them an say your wrong an it's all your fault it's your fault an you don't fix your problem then it's only on you it's you you you you vs how can we help you vs hurt you
Classic Movie
i love her
Damn this scene really got to me.
This Oscar winning movie
my older brother passed away from heroin needle drug addiction after he was better from 6 months after 2020.
Did she ask him have he ever really look at it
Do you have any idea how fast you can go blind? And still be afraid of the dark..
That’s the definition of a damn good women right there. Saluted
Damn😢
This is a good movie
How you gonna tell a blind man to look at something when he can't see that is like telling a paraplegic to get up and walk
This is hard for any women to have to deal with her man using zany drug it's a serious demon and I know off hand and have been in a similar situation with my baby daddy who was snorting cocaine it was so hard he change stop being in me and he girls life valid to be working but his checks said otherwise it was awful. I only feel for the people who care about someone that much who tries to see their partner through and through
Pretty good work.
Loookkkkkk at thisssss lmaoooo
Get Out The Way? Move!
They can act their asses off. Fo real.
“ Is that poison worth losing everything??”
The saddest part was her making him realize he was invisible or a ghost in the family because his addiction was over taking him so much he wasn’t connected to the present time since he was hooked
“Look at this...really look at it!”
Honey, really? 👀
25 years she stays with this after the affairs and bastards children. Crazy!!

If some blind people eyes are always closed and when they sleep they eyes are closed is it ever a time they eyes open ?
Oh Wow 😱😱😱😱
Its easy to get on it, but hard to get off it for the rest of your life.
They just cant see eye to eye anymore

That java in the description threw me off
Ray Charles (1930-2004) was doing dope since he was 16 (circa 1946-1947 when his career started). When Milt Shaw died, and he went to the funeral, he was high like a kite 🪁. He did eventually kick his habit in 1965, and he was clean (with periodic drug tests). But Ray Charles died due to liver disease (cirrhosis). All those years of drinking coffee ☕️ with Bols gin & sugar finally caught up with him. He once said, "If I knew I was going to last this long, I would've taken better care of myself."
The whole Time I knew about this I never knew it was pg 13
Ive been watching these clips. Was Ray really this bad with drugs and all? Here I thought he was just a talented piano player, i didnt know all this. lol
A lot of performers are addicts
The acting is so good it's disgusting.
So no one is going to point out the way they mentioned jamie foxx in the description? Ok...
