Build Your Own Work Surface || Miter Saw Station

- Having a good work surface in your woodshop is a must. But a good worktop is not something you can just buy at the store. Sometimes you have to take things into your own hands. In this video, I show you how to build a worktop that features a laminated surface, maple edge banding, and combination track with Woodpeckers Stealth Stops. Combination track combines both t-track and miter track. The best of both worlds.
So if you are looking to build a new bench top, work surface, or some DIY countertops, this could be your solution. These worktops are easy to build and are relatively inexpensive.
A big thank you to Jason Hibbs of Bourbon Moth for the inspiration. His video on laminated work surfaces was a huge help. Thanks man!

First of your videos that I've watched. I love it! Nice presentation, style, demeanor, etc. Well edited. I'm a subscriber! Keep up the good work.
Thank you 🙏 I’m glad you liked it!
I agree. Less is more! Information overload ruins too many carpentry videos 😵💫
@@EverydayBuilds That use of your level for a straight edge on the table saw just blew my mind. Thats the best tool tip Ive ever seen, and it just fly's by. 200 IQ
@@matthewbarry7026 lol, thank you!
@EverydayBuilds nicely done! This is my first but not the last of your videos I've watched. I enjoyed your humour and clear explanation! I never thought about boxing in a filing cabinet...interesting idea. I think it's great you were wearing a mask and using dust collection most of the time you were cutting mdf...that stuff is toxic. You are clearly smart and creative...definitely subscribed. I also think it's great you acknowledged who you got the idea from.
Had to comment on your observation about waiting too long to buy a track saw - completely agree. Anyone cutting panels needs to buy one today, don't wait.
So impressed with the finished product and the video. Awesome!!
Awesome. I also followed Jason's videos for doing laminate and built a 7' x 3'6" folding workbench that is my outfeed, glue up, and everything table. I love it so much.
Really Nice! Thanks for this video.
Amazing work really love the final product, love the look of the black laminate!!!!
Thank you 🙏
Very nice job.impressed with the finished product. looking for more of your videos.
Thank you!
Looks awesome, now I have ANOTHER thing I need to build.
Lol, the list is NEVER ending!
Very well produced video. Informative and easy to watch.
Thank you!
Great video! I love the idea of using filing cabinets and the top came out perfect. Definitely will do something similar for my new workshop.
Thank you! Good luck with your new shop!
Beautiful - really enjoyed watching this
Thank you 🙏
Love the look and design
Thank you 🙏
This is beautiful and exactly what I want for my future shop!
Thank you!
Nice job. I'll be viewing this again (for like the 4th time LOL) as I build my next shop miter box table.... Really, nice job.👍😁
Thanks! Good luck with your build 👍
Just came across your video and glad I did. I am in the process of making my mitresaw station and this is just about the same that I need to do to mine. Best job
Thank you! Good luck with your build 👍

I applaud you for using the safety equipment!
I try my best, lol
Everything about your presentation was truly professional!

My type of work. Beautiful job Jordan, that shop looks awesome and I didn't even see it all!
Thank you 🙏
Great looking workshop.

15° laminate trim router bit does a very nice job of finishing. Kudos on the maple edge. A classy and durable treatment.
Thank you 🙌
I really enjoyed your video
I will build one just like that.
Well done. Thanks

Well done, nice project, very practical

Super clean man. Nice build!

Just came across your video, well done. Can't wait to catch up on all your builds.
Thank you 😁
Excellent!
I just subscribed, your tops look fantastic and definitely durable and easy to clean! Love that!
Thank you 🙏
I’ve been looking into miter stations and this is my favorite. Nice work! I’ll be taking a similar route and will be sure to use your affiliate links.

Thank you 👊
Thank You. I have subscribed because you worked on a project without trying to sell me anythin, No sponsors no commercia's really hope your channel groes.
Thank you 🙏 me too!
Well done Jordan! Now come come build one for my shop!
I’ll be right over 👍
Awesome work... you did a great job
Thank you 🙏
Looks amazing
Thank you Adam!
I love the way that you included normal Office filing cabinets into your workbenches, great idea. I wouldn't have thought of that, I would have just used some 'old' second hand kitchen cabinet bases. Your idea is much better. Nice mitre station.
Thank you! Filing cabinets for the win 🙌
Well done! My first time to watch one of your videos and now a subscriber!!
Thank you and welcome!!!
Great video man! Really well done, great explanation and presentation.
Thanks man! Love your content as well 🤙
Great video

Nice job, thanks for sharing
Thanks and you’re welcome 👍
Simple but great job man…
Appreciate it!
This was great man. Thank you!🙂🔨
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it 😁
Just found your channel… And it’s the first time I saw somebody use contact cement and put down a laminate… That while watching I thought “hell I can do that”. You have a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing… Best to you and yours.
Awesome! Glad to hear it! Thank you 🙏
That’s a great idea to layer it rather than routing in a channel. Love all that natural light you have btw
Thank you! The natural light is great ☀️
Just subscribed. Quality work, excellent filming & presentation. I'm adding a miter saw to my workflow, and found your channel in my research. Love the fenceless approach and combo track.
Thank you for the kind words 🙏 Good luck with your build!
Thanks for the video man.
You’re welcome!
Love the quality of your work. Some would say why go to all the trouble for your shop? But if you are in it all the time why not have it look and function the best it can be. Well done Jordan.
Exactly! 🙌 And thank you!
Instant subscriber ... Just looked and sounded good within seconds . Cheers from Australia 🦘 👍💯
Thanks you 🙏
@@EverydayBuilds you must be a good guy , because everything about the video makes it look that way ... And I'll support anyone who makes it their goal to help others 👍👍👍
This looks so good.
Thank you!!!
Like you I put off buying a track saw for years. Bought one last year from the money of a kitchen install. What a game changer in the shop! I can in seconds cut a straight chip free reference edge on almost anything. Last time I did some laminate for a craft table. I used the track saw to even rough cut the laminate to size. So much quicker and easier than knife and snapping. Really need to get a hose and get some dust collection set up like yours.
One of my favorite tools by far! 🙌 I would definitely recommend adding dust collection. It makes it a much more pleasant experience 😁
Like your style, and nice video.
Thank you 🙏
Great tutorial- I’ve used my track saw to cut laminate- easy peasy
Thanks! Ill have to try that next time!
@@EverydayBuilds I was a little nervous the first time I tried it. I supported the laminate with some scrap ply during the cut. I was pleasantly surprised on how clean the cut was. Used a high tooth count/plywood blade in my tracksaw.
put a strip of 1/8 mdf on the table saw to keep int from sliding under the fence and cut away, maybe go to a 60 tooth blade.
I like it! Your shop is looking good.
Thanks! It's really coming along, lol
Wow!! U amke it look so easy
Why thank you 🙏
13:17 great idea with the spacer sticks
Thanks!
Looks great Jordan, the only thing I would say is the laminate on your track needs to be beveled to the height of the track. That’s a catching point if you slide timber that’s slightly bowed. Nice job 👌🏻🇦🇺
new sub and first video on your channel. looking forward to seeing more. well done!
Thank you and welcome!
Nice work.
Thank you!
New sub here! First video I have seen of yours. I am looking forward to watching more. It definitely looks very approachable for me just starting out!
Heck yeah! Just gotta start 👍
Learnt a few new things this video. Liked and subscribed bud!
Awesome, thank you!
Great video. I'm looking to do almost the exact same thing. I just finished the base and draws this weekend. Going to be doing the top soon and was wondering how I wanted to do the track in the middle. Now I know. Thanks 👍🏻
Awesome! 🙌
Good video. I use a fine notched spreader for my contact cement and throwaway pain paint brush for the edges. Also spread the glue on the plastic laminate upside down over the top of the matting surfaces first then so you don't have to worry about spills, then coat the matting surface last. I'm going to have to try the hardwood chamfer technique on my next opportunity. Also plastic laminate cuts on the table saw just fine and much much faster. You can also use a trim bit with the router to cut pieces to size. I like the track. No need for a fence.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the tips 👍
Beautiful how to show step by step
Thank you 🙏
Nice job
Thank you 🙏
Nice job. Thx
You’re welcome!
Cool hack using the store bought cabinets underneath.
Thank you! I love how it turned out 👌
It sounded like something I'm interested in so I subscribed hit the like and turned on notifications to get all the latest content, then to top it off I'm also commenting. Good stuff. Thanks
Lol, thank you 😂
@@EverydayBuilds Nice. Recognized by the guy who made the video. 😎
nice job!
Thank you 🙏
Good work crediting the video that inspired you and adding the link. Ethics, FTW!
🤙🤙🤙
VERY nice build!!! 16:25 A strip of left over laminate in the groove for your T-track, will lift the T-track up to being flush with the top of your work surface.
That’s a nice idea! Thank you 👊
@@EverydayBuilds You're welcome
Just discovered your channel and subscribed!
Welcome 😁
For someone who has undiagnosed OCD, your video instantly drew me in with the high contrast bench colors. Then you kept my attention with the great shots of satisfying cuts and assembly. Great job!
I've always thought about adding laminate to work benches, but have refrained due to how it wears. While the black top you added looks amazing new, you can see the wear and tear as white scratches on your assembly table. I wonder if just changing to lighter colors would hide them better. With a wood top, any wear just adds to the look.
One last note, kudos to you for giving credit where credit is due regarding your inspiration. I'm sure Mr. Hibbs will see this one day and comment.
First of all, thank you! And secondly, the laminate on my assembly table is pre-applied and significantly inferior to the laminate I applied to the miter saw station. The laminate on the miter saw station will hold up much much better than the assembly table. Hope that helps! 😊
The laminate on the assembly table is basically black paper, not great.
I bought Paperstone solid surface sheet seconds directly at the factory in Hoquiam Wa for my assorted interior cabine counters. Extremely dense material that can be worked with carpentry tools and carbide blades. The toughest material you will ever meet. I was even able to tap and thread it for flush fasteners
Nice shop
Thank you 🙏
My favourite stand build, love the track, a much better solution and one I'll copy I think, thank you. Could you do a video on your extraction please? They quick connect looking setup on your table saw, the way you've suspended it for your track saw etc. Cheers
Absolutely 👍
I like it
Thanks Butch! Me too 🤙
Just subscribed. This was a great video and exactly what I'm looking to do. The filing cabinets are genius. I like building cabinets and drawers, but don't want to spend that time on making them for the shop. And the cost of all the wood would exceed the cost of the filing cabinets. I'm glad I stumbled across your channel.
Thank you! Good luck with your build 👍
I just use the track saw on its shallowest setting to cut the laminate. It gives very clean edges and it’s pretty quick.
That’s a great tip! Not sure why I never thought of that, lol
Consistent also works... each subsequent cut is consistent with the previous one.
Would also suggest drilling your holes first, before glue, just because that way it doesn't shift on you... while you're doing it.
Thanks Nick! 👊
Great video Jordan.... new sub!
Thank you! And welcome!
12:15 the proper scoring tool is a single pass usually. After scoring bend it so the score you just did is on the inside of the fold. This will snap the backing clean as it stretches and leave a much nicer edge and you only need to bend one way. And it's satisfying like bubble wrap when it snaps. Not truly important if you are going to do a final flush trim with a router, but if you ever need to seam two pieces together, I'd get the right tool. they are $5.00
P.S. I realized I forgot to say, awesome build. Good ideas in there. I hadn't seen the miter track and the woodpecker stops. Those are nice. Having the stop in the work surface instead of maintaining a fence (which is what I have now) is definitely an improvement in function of the overall workspace. Redesign is going on the list.
Awesome! Thank you for your input, it’s much appreciated. Fenceless is the way to go 👌
I love a good shop project. Getting ready to build out my miter station. Pretty sure I follow you on IG already. But just realized I’m not subscribed here on Youtbue. Well… I wasn’t I am now.
Awesome! Good luck with your miter station!
Hi, Thank you very much for this video, a great bench. The instructions were very clear as well. Could you please explain your Table Saw table? I am watching a lot of youtube carpantary shows and every table looks different. When I search for Table saws on google none of them has all the bells and whistles that I see on these shows. So, it would be great if you could over that and may be a video on how you built it and your cross sled. Thank you again and best wishes.
great vid, something to think about for a nice top. something else that might help when moving the cabinets for the future pick up a couple of furniture dollies from HF look to be just the right size !!
Great idea! Thank you 🙏
as we get older or working by ourselves we have to think of these options:)
Chamfer FTW!
Always!
New sub! 🎉
Woooo!!!
It must be nice to be rich like him.
I subscribed to your channel because of this build and I was getting ready to replace the crappy melamine top on my mitre station. Studied what you did carefully and am now implementing it. One suggestion for going forward though. Once I have the 1/2" MDF ready for the back of the tabletop, I intend to glue/screw the back down only, put the track in place, and mark out the line for drilling the holes to secure the rail. Just thought that would be an easier way to do it than trying to keep that meter line in-between and below the two 1/2" pieces of MDF. Looking forward to having it done.
Good luck with your build! 👍
I’m about* to do the same thing in my shop - except I’m using my own custom laminate that I make. (*”About” is all relative - hopefully within the next 6 months). Great build - I’ll look into that track and cool stop system. Thanks!
Great video on the whole process. 👍 You forgot to go over the stop block 😅. It looked interesting.
I talk about them at 2:10, lol
@@EverydayBuilds whoops 😅…. Must have got distracted for that little bit… sry…✌️
Use that table saw of yours to cut the laminate. It’s way easier than you’d think. We like to use a 2-4”X however deep the table saw fence is piece of quarter inch mdf with a little piece of wood on the bottom side as sort of a bench hook to keep it from sliding forward. You use that piece to keep the thin laminate from sliding under the fence. If you’re using a cabinet style saw you can roll the full sheet around your feet and feed the piece in as it unrolls. Just make sure to give yourself about an inch over your finished size to route off later.
I’ll have to try that. Thanks for the tip! 🙏
What are those cool cabinets you have underneath? I want some!!! Love the instructionall BTW 💪
Found them on FB Marketplace. Not sure where they are from, sorry 😢

If you have used office furniture outlets near you they sell them pretty cheap and sometimes you can get dinged up/bad paint items cheap if you dont mind a little body work and putting a fresh coat of the paint color of your choice on them.

Thanks for the video. I like the combination of the filing cabinets with the wood frame very much. Looks great and very handy for the day you want to move or reorganize. Also, you can get them very cheap second hand which would make the whole a lot more cost and labour effective. Can't you cut the laminate with the drop saw? Personally, I would have tried to make the edging a bit higher so the laminate is flush with the edges just to prevent chipping of the laminate on the edges. Subscribed.
Thank you! 🙏
The 45° chamfer is magical. The butt joint looks like an impossibly perfect miter! Subscribed.
P.S. Can you make a video about making (your) videos?
Thank you! And maybe one day I will 😁
Awesome build, I really enjoyed watching this build. May I ask where can I resource those great cabinets under your table ? They are just amazing looking!!!! Thanks for sharing your journey. Have a great day.
Thank you! I found the cabinets on Facebook marketplace. They are just metal filing cabinets 👍
Great video! Do you have a video showing how you built the rest of the workbench? It looks like you have some metal cabinets-- are they tool cabinets you sourced?
Thank you! I documented the rest of it on my Instagram page 👍 The cabinets are just office filing cabinets that I found on FB Marketplace. Hope that helps 😁
The cabinets your top are on, I like ,who makes them? Great look and job.
Thank you!
I originally commented about your safe practices and then you broke a bunch of rules. The laminate cutter is worth getting. It has a carbide cutter. Good video!
I do my best 🤷🏻♂️
Great video on building this. I would love to know where to buy the 4 drawer cabinet section you used to do this with. Ty
I got them used from FB Marketplace. I’m not sure where you can buy them new, sorry.
Its nice to see someone using the guard on the table saw. We don't need to see the blade on every cut and risk a finder or 2 to get likes on a video.
I love it and it improves dust collection significantly 👍
Hi! Love the video! Which laminate type did you use and where did you get it from? Any suggestions?
I used the Formica brand. I purchased it from a local supplier, but I have also included a link to the same product down in the video description.
Great video and even better final product! What type of cabinets did you use below the cutting surface?
Thank you! They are metal filing cabinets I got of Facebook marketplace. 👍
