Will you upload scenes from Black Dynamite?
I love how when it starts, his face goes from “This hurts like a son of a bitch but I won’t give you the satisfaction,” to “Uh oh…”
I love the expressions that Paul goes through in this whole scene. From skeptical, to confusion, then pain and misery, then to rebellion and almost serenity, and finally to relief. It was my favorite scene from BOTH films, honestly, as simple as the scene was.
@@Profile__1 I remember reading somewhere that this was one of the first scenes shot because Denis knew if Timothee couldn't pull this scene off he wouldn't have a movie.
2:40 is one of the most badass things I've seen in film.
"No need to call the guards. Your mother stands behind that door; no one will get past her."
What a great line to set us up for how ruthless Jessica can be.
It's not that Jessica is ruthless, she just knows that the guards would be powerless to stop the Reverend Mother, who was gonna do what she came there to do. Preventing the guards from attempting to stop the Reverend Mother would've probably saved their lives. Jessica was absolutely terrified before Paul even stepped into the room, and was in anguish from knowing what her son was going through, and that there was an enormous chance that he was going to die at any moment. She even had the Dr give him a quick checkup before going in, just to make sure he was strong enough to potentially survive what he was about to go through. How is that ruthless? Did you watch the movie or just this clip?
@@danieldevito6380 she would be forced to kick their asses if they tried to get through anyway. Because that would 100% mean her son dying and her suffering massive repercussions from the BG. That's ruthless Mr Snarkypants
But Paul is also the first Man born to the gessarit…like there is A REASON HE is messiah, and its due to Jessica.
What a lineage and combination of bloodlines to spring from…blessed to come from such a woman
@@danieldevito6380that all sounds ruthless yes
I fucking love how they did the voice.

There is no resisting like in the older version of DUNE, in this version if someone uses the voice on you, you simply do it
@@SamT-h7w I wouldn't know what to say here
Maybe because she wasn't trying to become a reverend mother at the time, nothing was pulling from their past memories..pool or something.

It could just simply be she kept it a secret

In the books it states Paul withstands the box longer than anyone else in history
@@tmuxor except for all the fire imagery and the image of the charred hand. double meaning for his visions of the devastation the holy war will bring to the universe as well as the pain he is currently feeling. in the book he worried that when he removed his hand he expected there to be no flesh on his hand and only bone. that anxiety is well translated as whenever paul is released by the reverend mother instead of ripping his hand out there is a slight break before he slowly removes it. the first time i saw it i hadn't read the book and assumed he would be scarred. but just like in the book there were no markings. this scene is masterfully done.
@@tmuxorusing imagery from the jihad that is allegorical to the pain the main character is feeling at that exact moment is not an accident i promise you lol
@@tmuxor Not sure how it didn't, it was showing fire and a burned hand. He's not suppose to start screaming in pain, that would defeat the purpose of passing the test.
@@tmuxorDid you watch the scene with your eyes closed
He endured more than women, as it was written (because its a test usually for the bene gesserit)
"I must not fear,
Fear is the mind killer,
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration,
I will face my fear,
I will permit it to flow over me and through me,
Once the fear has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path,
Where fear has gone there will be nothing,
Only I will remain"
I use this mantra whenever I'm afraid
@@atach881 does it work when you want to hit on a girl?
@@PortableFreezer I haven't used it to hit on a girl, but I would assume it would work in the same way. For me when I chant it in my head it's about gaining control, letting the fear go and building up confidence
Fear exists for a reason,
It is not an inhibitor that stops progress,
Fear is the guardian of the body,
My body and mind are not exclusive of each other,
My mind needs to respect my fear, for it preserves the contents of my mind

Love how Paul’s resolve isnt just a triumph, but almost a warning. Its intimidating. Like the scene is saying “Make no mistake, he is young and small now, but will become VERY capable of horrific power.”
The scene begins with Paul having no idea the danger he’s facing, and it ends with Reverend Mother knowing EXACTLY the danger SHE is facing.
Exactly and you can see that realization in the reverend mothers face it’s like “oh this kid is going to be VERY important”
"Defiance in the eyes... _like his father"_
Paul: nice to see you too, Grandma.
What she didn’t expect was when the mind killer turned up the heat, he used defiance to fight it. I guess being stubborn and having mind over matter really is the gift.
I don't think that's canonical 🤪
@@dudea3378It is canon. It happens in the books.
@@hawk66100 it doesn't happen in Frank's books but his son's books and it's just a theory. It doesn't actually happen, his son just writes it like a theory.
@@Mina-nn1ou Ok buddy 👍🏻 In his son’s book Guias Helen Mohiam gets r*ped by Baron Harkonnen and gets pregnant. Baron Harkonnen is Jessica’s father. It’s stated plain as day.
I love how at 2:42 its like shes witnessing the terror of what she's creating. It even looks like there's a slight zoom onto her like we're being told to focus more on what she thinks of our main character.
Literally the look of "We fcked up".
How wholesome, Paul and his grandmother spending some quality time together
Paul used to sit on her lap and also help thread the needle 😅
2:59
Charlotte Rampling’s acting here is so underrated. You’re not even able to see her face in full, but you can just see the fear in her eyes as she looks at Paul. She knows full well how powerful and dangerous he is.
When you gotta lock in:
"Goodbye young human, I hope you live."
I laughed so hard at that lol
How heartwarming
I’m gonna start saying this to my kid whenever i leave for work in the morning
This scene just shows what a phenomenal actor Timothee Chalamet is, I can’t imagine what was his mind set was, to pretend to be in that kind of pain Brilliant

Too bad Elmo did not survive the test.

I came from there too😭
Begs the question: _What great power did Elmo have that they couldn't allow him to live unless he passed their test?_
I gotta watch this movie. That was so intense - and dude just overcame it through sheer force of will.
you will not regret it haha
One of my favorite parts of the book. Wow this movie is beautiful. Timothy is an amazing actor. Absolutely perfect to play Paul. I wish I realized his talent sooner but I’m so happy he was the one to play Paul
i agree, he played the role amazingly!
"Goodbye young human, I hope you live!" Thats exactly how my grandma would say 5 minutes before telling my mom something i did wrong.
The will of the hero… unbreakable… brilliant scene… the whole hero journey in one moment… the pain, the resolve to cope, the breaking of the ego, the utter will to overcome, he arrives and glares at Jessica whose fear is revealed …. The final look
I break you
You don’t break me …. EVER
She yields
Notice how the burnt hand image doesn’t appear until after the mind killer screams from inside the box, almost like it’s frustrated that he’s resisting instinct. Mind over matter. You might feel like it burns but nothing is happening but the fear creeping in your head making your mind run with fantasies like wildfire. I guess it’s like when you eat a really hot sauce and your mind in fear thinks it’s burning your mouth so you down cold water but this time you feel the burning and resist, except this is affecting his hand but it’s the same idea that just cause it feels one way, nothing is happening. It’s also similar to Batman begins with the league of assassins fear toxin.
I get what your saying but in the books it’s not described as a burning feeling per say but “the worst pain a human has ever experienced” which makes his defiance and ability to ignore it all the more impressive and foreboding
Batman would have shit his pants
They did a great job casting the meanest old ladies to play the Bene Gesserit.
The quality....holy goodness. Keep up the good work! Can't wait for other highlight scenes from this awesome movie!
2:29 that noise, peaks my curiosity every time
nazi zombies
That sound is the intensity going up
The sound of a cool scene
Apparently they did that noise with a bunch of condensed human voices. Kinda wild.
I hope we’ll see more of Dune. We’ll watch your career with great intrest.
Apparently one of his first scenes to film.
One of the first scenes in the book. Once you establish this, you can set up his entire framework and mindset. What stands before and behind him
“An animal caught in a trap will gnaw off it’s own leg to escape. What will you do?”
its own leg
There is a scene from Dexter in which he says the same things, then breaks his own wrist.
I'd kill the reverend mother.
@@SharatS then that person was an animal but with no hesitation
Funny if he just picked up the box and slammed it into the ground in defiance.
I come back to this scene and I often cry. Because elders and family members you looked up to will often judge you for weakness or mistakes. Yet they judge , and judge more. However , when the time comes for them to see you are stronger based off mental toughness and perseverance, they judge again. When you make it through in a different way they did or overcome , it is strange to them. They will question it. If you’re reading this, keep going down your own path . Don’t break , past generations are often broken but disguise it. Leaders lead, they don’t , we don’t, follow.
This the same guy who acted in the Willy Wonka prequel.
What a fucking incredible actor.
Bro….the sounds are wild when u close ur eyes 😮
Both of those wide shots of Paul standing at 4:10 and 4:18 are both so fucking beautiful. You rarely get shots that good in big budget movies today but two in one scene yo?!
Had to get a hand mri the technician told me to watch this. He was awesome! Because it was reminiscent of the procedure

When you find your True Inner Power you can withstand any inner storm❤️🔥🔥🙌
Thanks for posting this
Has anyone else after watching this ran their hand under hot water just to see how long you can handle a fraction of the pain pull must be experiencing?
We’ll considering it starts slow and builds up until it decides to just crank it up to max is fair. Imagine if it was boiling hot instantly when he touched it. The test would fail everyone. It has to give you a taste and then it builds the longer you stay. Could be different for everyone though. Fear is unique to each individual so for him fear felt burning, other could be freezing, or drained emotionally. We don’t know what the box can really do.

Timothee Chalamet is just gorgeous
I didn’t understand this scene at all and I still don’t but I will say this part gave me massive Chills, the theme and the acting here was everything and the way how the music gets louder🔥🔥🔥🔥 2:41
“Only I will remain” 3:11
Me: *Soul left his body because that went hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥*
I haven't read the book all the way through but from what I understand this is some kind of cultural ritual where they test you with pain (placing your hand in the box causes extreme pain to your hand gradually building to an intense level) to see if you'll freak out and take your hand out of the box even with full knowledge that if you do so, you'll be stabbed in the neck with poison and die. It's a test to filter out the weak minded.
Thanks for sharing!
the acting is incredible ❤
I like how when he starts to fight it and is winning the reverend mother basically makes the expression of “oh sh$& he’s gonna be IMPORTANT”
such great acting in this scene
I appreciate in this version versus the Lynch one that it's Jessica giving the Fear is the Mind Killer speach here. It shows the generational progress from mother to son.
Mother and son bond.
2:41 true fear in her eyes and I fckin love it.
can u do the movie “anthropoid” shootout scene ?
Does anyone know what the mind killer screams say? After he puts his hand in the box?
It's the pain from burning by fire I guess. In his vision there is a picture of a total destroyed burned to ashes left hand
spoilers
What few people pick up on in the books is the foreshadowing.
The reverend mother says that an animal caught in a trap will naw off its own leg to escape.
But in the books, she goes on to say, "but a human, will wait, enduring the pain in order to kill the trapper and protect the tribe from a deadly threat.
Later Paul will kill the reverend mother, because he views her as a deadly threat to all of humanity. She taught him. But did she teach him that knowing she could die? Was she even then molding her answer to the "the place they dare not to look"?
I hope this doesn’t come back to haunt the old lady…
Scene is a masterpiece.

Welcome to the Voice, baby. LOL
Why is this entire scene missing bits from the trailer?
many trailers have scenes and lines ultimately not found in the final cuts
They cut out most of that, it was probably originally going to be part of the movie or filmed specifically for the trailer

can someone explain to me what the voice is?
I’m not sure if this is the explanation you wanted but I’ve only seen the movie so I’m gonna guess it’s just like Jedi mind tricks where you can just make someone do something using some kind of unexplained magic. It’s probably explained more in the book, which I might read sometime since the movie was really good.
@@skittles536 yeah wanted a book explanation.
@@beepbop9378
The most important thing the book explains about it is that it is not magic. TLDR: it's psychological manipulation.
Largely the point of the Dune books is to explore how far the human mind and body can evolve. The mentats are an exploration of the limits of human logic, the Fremen in part are pushing faith to its utmost, the Bene Gesserit explore the limits of the physical body and the conscious mind. Hence "The Voice" is simply the human voice pushed to the furthest extent conceivable. Just like the Mentats, Guild Navigators, and Bene Gesserit push themselves in various fields.
Bene Gesserit training focuses on total, perfect muscle control. This is the basis for their Weirding Way, the most supreme and lethal of all combat techniques. They also focus on total mastery over their minds in terms of pain tolerance, physical endurance, exertion, reasoning and analysis ability, historical and cultural knowledge, etc etc.
All together this gives a Bene Gesserit the observational abilities to psychologically read and profile any subject. This lets them know what words, tone, timing, body language, vocal imitation, etc etc will be most effective for a given goal with the subject. They then combine this knowledge with total control over their facial expressions, vocal chords, and body to not simply _command_ or order people, but to _manipulate_ them. Often the subject thinks it was their own idea to do something as the Bene Gesserit never explicitly told them exactly what she wanted from them. This is likely minorly used on people like the Emperor. But note, it is a secret ability, and not used frivolously. If it were to be understood it would be less effective, and could be fought against.
A good example that shows how the movie simplifies (because it needs to for brevity) is that in the book Jessica doesn't shout so hard at her Harkonnen captors that they submit, no instead she _seduces_ them, plants the idea that they should loosen her restraints for their own benefit, and then she manipulates them into fighting and killing each other over her. THAT is The Voice.
It's a form of speech that is taught to Bene Gesserit that mentally shackles people's minds using subtle subsonic shifts in vocals. It that takes decades for most to master. Hard to explain and it's been a long time since i read the book.
Darn did my long comment get deleted???? I wrote like 4 paragraphs of detailed analysis on the voice. Lots of effort :(
His mother looks like his sister. Or is she?
Because you are Jessica's son
Did he live?
