I ‘ve learned something new every time I have watched one of your videos. I registered for sparks today and am looking forward to working them too. Your work and teaching always inspires me.
I love your scientific method of picking a brush. I can relate LOL I do choose an angle brush when I want to make a straight line . And that's about it. I can never have enough angled brushes.
Hi Carolyn! Love this ledger and your play! Would you ever consider scanning 5 or 10 of the ledger pages before you play in them to put in your store as a digital download? I just love old ledgers but they are really hard to find in my state of CA. They would make great printable old downloads for use by mixed media folks 💜💕💜
That's a great idea Anne- I'll get a few of them turned into Sparks of Art-spraition- free downloads in my newsletters for the future. If you're not already signed up- you can join here - bit.ly/2y4qV30
Did you know you are destroying a historic record when you use a written in vintage ledger as an art journal? Yes, scan the pages and then turn the ledger over to your local historical/genealogical society. A descendant or historian will thank you.
What is the size of the book you are using? I really like it!! I like that it's huge!! I like all the different stuff you do in your art journal. I like all the colors!! Moleskine watercolor a3 is another good large book!!
Luckily Sharpies are relatively easy to replace and inexpensive. Oil on top of acrylic is fine...but don’t expect to be able to put anything over top of the oil pastels other than another oil based product.
If I could free my thinking, which is full of rules and regulations (leftovers from being a Language Arts teacher), I could be more free and adventuresome with my art work. I am not giving up the task, but it is not easy. :-) Thank you for this wonderful presentation of "freedom". By the way, thanks for the info about how you pick a brush, now I don't feel so bad about not choosing the "right" brush. :-)
When I looked at the 2 pages, the one on the left looked like a sea horse and the other on the right looked like a horse! I wonder what I would see if I took a Rorschach test! 🤪
correct, Carolyn. Don't ever become a brain surgeon. LOL I love how the scribbles look under the layers of new paint you add, though... gonna have to try using sharpie as a middle layer more so than a top layer.... and i do a lot of "not supposed to" things too.. hence why i'm a nurse AIDE LOL not a Dr. or a nurse. LOL

I have a bad case of journal envy! I'm a bibliophile and old ledgers are my jam! Lol

Wondering why the spray paints weren't listed in the supply list.
Why not just use a heat tool and dry each layer?

This is a vintage ledger - it is crazy big- Harry Potter spell book large
This is beautiful chaos
I see last name, I click. It's not a common one around Denver. Lovely page you made.
You made me lol for real . "Which brush is clean?"
Well, that's how I decide and lots of decisions are made that way lol
❤️
You're a riot! My kids think I'm crazy I spent so much time laughing :)
That turned out very lovely and lively.
Art journals are interesting but what do people do with them when they are finished?
flip and admire.
