COFFEE PRUNING - Tradition and Innovation

- In this short educational video, Tom Greenwell discusses ways of pruning coffee, including both the traditional method, as well as the more "innovative" style of pruning used at Greenwell Farms. This latter style, The Beaumont-Fukunaga system, was developed in the 1950's, however it was rejected by most farmers in Kona at that time. Greenwell Farms has utilized the Beaumont-Fukunaga method almost exclusively since the farm's inception.
Greenwell Farms is a coffee farming and processing company in the heart of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Their primary goal is to bring to coffee lovers around the world the finest 100% Kona Coffee available. They asked Mahi'ai Creative and Gum Design to produce this video in the hope that if you ever come to the Big Island, you will stop in and say hello, take their coffee tour and enjoy a cup of Kona's finest. Nice! Salute to farmers like you who not only plant coffee to provide for the family but also to help in watershed restoration and wildlife preservation. People may not see it now but your efforts will have positive long term impacts for the surrounding community.

In a drought condition before planting you should insulate the root from deep earth to reduce water lost and keep plant alive

Do you prune arabica the same way? I have 8, 3 year old plants that have only gotten to about 3 to 4 feet tall so far and cannot understand why they are taking so long plus i hardly get any flowers. Thanks
