Africa’s Most Friendliest City: Antananarivo" is a video about me exploring the capital city of Antananarivo in the south eastern African country of Madagascar. I travel to the downtown area of Antananarivo to find out the real truth about how friendly people tend to be which has been rumored by many for so long. Do watch, like and enjoy.
Extraordinary experiences shared with the locals and breathtaking landscapes that we did not expect. In this trip we were looking to know the true definition of the word "Happiness," which is why we decided to go to meet the most remote villages of the country. Often criticized, Madagascar also has many positive points that are not highlighted on a large scale.
We wanted to highlight the beauty of this island and show the true life of the people of Madagascar.

It doesn't take much travel experience nor an education to know the difference between someone that is trying to play you from others who are genuinely begging you for a little help. Going through these markets looks fun and interesting. I’m sure the people here are quite kind. It is sad to see the poverty, yet common more so in poorer countries. I myself would have a very difficult time having the panhandlers following me. Years ago, I fell for a scam in Jamaica. A father was begging for money to feed his little daughter. I gave him a few dollars, only to see him later, shooting up on heroin behind a building.

1:27 I'm pretty sure she was talking in Malagasy *Franc* or FMG (the old currency) and not in Ariary so it's actually cheaper because 1 FMG is worth 1/5 of an Ariary.
So it was actually 20,000 FMG => 4,000 Ariary, which is the equivalent of 90 cents, 15,000 FMG => 3,000 Ariary (roughly 70 cents) and 10,000 FMG => 2,000 Ariary (45 cents)
I advise any foreigner visiting to ask if it's in Franc or in Ariary or else you'll lose your money. I know it's quite confusing and challenging but that's just how things work here, it's been 20 years since Ariary has become the official currency but Malagasy people just like keeping their habits.
Fun fact, we actually use Ariary when speaking in Malagasy but when we start speaking in French, it automatically switches to FMG so be ready to make to mental maths 😂

@@nosy0000 I know where the Malagasy language originates from. It's mostly Borneo (Kalimantan). 90 percent of the substrate comes from Malay and Javanese (Mostly Malay and a few Javanese).
"Nosy" comes from the proto-austronesian "Nusa" which means "island".
The prefix Ra which indicates respect was adopted from Javanese.
"Soratra" comes from Malay "Surat" which means "writing", the root of that word is Arabic, of course.
The Bantu language probably influenced the ending of each words which always end with a vowel, even when the "source" language ends with a consonant.
