    St Helens, like everywhere, has beautiful areas as well as some rough areas. I happened to find this location whilst on my way to a recovery meeting.
    All the people in this video gave consent to be filmed.

    Rainford lad born and bred here,St Helens was a busy ,bustling little town in the 70’s and early 80’s then Thatcher shut everything,and the town got abandoned .I left the north for work in 1990,breaks my heart seeing this,but Thankyou so much for highlighting some of the issues
    People forget that people suffering are just good people who need a chance-Thankyou for being a good human 😊

    04:31 watch the homeless guys smile when Billy says yes you can shake my hand, that showed the homeless man that humanity is still alive because he’s probably suffered by the hands of wicked people in the past. At 05:55 listen to Billy, you could hear by Billy voice it really effected him seeing fellow humans who are down on there luck. Billy this shows that you actually care about the next man, especially the ones who have nothing left. I felt it all in this vid mate. Powerful.

    I live in St.helens mate, have done for 45yrs an that area in particular is as rough as it gets. It's an absolute shit hole as you would say an that's putting it nicely. The surrounding areas near the town centre don't fair much better tbh. Our council do fuckall to help regenerate the area. They don't reach out to help these addicts either. I'm a hard working man myself an it's embarrassing to see the town in decline in this way. Was born an bred in Toxteth which was as rough a place as any but we moved just before the riots started lol thank fuck. Keep up the good work as it's so interesting to see & hear the difficulties of each areas your visiting.

    • @williamthomas2830
      @williamthomas2830 Місяць тому

      These areas were ‘regenerated’ in the 1970s. Our wonderful planning department put compulsory purchase orders on row upon row of terraced housing and whole communities were dispersed. Those terraced houses could have been renovated and communities saved. The town has never been the same since. It is a total disgrace for people to be homeless and without proper addiction help.

    Greetings from Glasgow, Been watching a few of Billy Moore,s podcasts and what gets me most is the humility he shows to the various people he meets who are for whatever reason are at their lowest ebb in life also the decay and neglect of housing estates not just in Liverpool but all over, large areas of the UK really are becoming less than third world.

      The 1970s and 1980s are the reason for most of ST Helens troubles. The loss of the mines and the decline in the glass industry since Pilkingtons was taken over have made working for a descent wage almost impossible for mistress working class folk. Successive governments have failed to invest in the town and even the Chamber of Commerce has gone bust.

    Parts of St Helens are worse than some of the bad parts of Liverpool, Liverpool is on the Up, St Helens will never recover like many former small industrial towns

    I used to live around the corner but I still live in St helens. All those houses are getting knocked down and brand new houses are getting built that's why they are all boarded up.

    Failed badly by the council and lack of investment in this town. Used to be a thriving place to live/shop but never moved with the times. Lots of nice areas in the Borough but lots of deprived areas too. The people are great though just very little opportunities in the area. Can’t see it changing any time soon unfortunately.
