Thanks billy, I did time with a lad from down Liverpool a cracking boy, his family had a boozer down in aintree , that’s were the national gets held, this was around 20 years ago he was up in Scotland doing a big stretch. A right good boy. Think his name was Paul ? Maybe you know the lad. He’d done time all over Britain, a mad armed robber if I remember correctly, I was last in prison, 2018 and I bumped into him in barlinnie he was still in doing the same sentence from 2000 , and he’d been returned from his open after just getting his first home leave in nearly 19/20 stretch . Some boy Scouse was 👍
I done a sentence in Scotland and that “Scouse” fella, reminds me of my time,I was “Scouse” too Ha! but gotta lot of love for the Scottish, some great lads, treated me well and made some long lasting friends,I was in Addiewell with Bob Ohara (Birdman) he was a decent lad, just loved playing Football every day,and big John “Jesse” James, the paralysed fella from Wishaw,he was some man, confined to bed almost 24 hours a day, never moaned or felt sorry for himself, and a good fella,he just read and read!
Didn't know he passed away in prison though Billy. I talk with Terry now n then. I didn't k ow there kid but I'd definitely heard ov him. He was a little older n me was judder. I'm 48 so I think he was few years older and had a biiig rep even then
Paul Harding: Guessing he was Fran's brother. Both England Internationals I think; maybe their Dad was a top local trainer too? I remember him as a young lad [Golden Gloves, I think, although wearing his England vest] boxing a real hard man [maybe John Hogan - Wavetree] in around '85/'86 - Everton park Sports Centre. Harding got the win. All kicked off in the crowd. Wild night. If it's the same lad and you get him on the pod Billy: Please ask him about this. Apart from Hodkinson vs Hyland at the old Liverpool Stadium, this is the amateur fight I most remember!
Paul k, it was the dockers club, Anfield, February 83-84 , not sure which , my old mates where there all football firm lads, crazy times but good times, the two lads who you mention where around 17 or 18, both young but tough, J.H . Is a a 5 Dan in mixed martial arts the last time I heard, P. H. not heard much from him , Franny was always the best boxer I would say, but Paul was bigger and tougher, several years ago Franny was attacked by doormen, I think they were doormen, he was with a friend I think, it happen in Benidorm, he was stabbed to bits , it was seriously, not sure about his mate, but thankfully he pulled through.
@@anthonyo.6084 Thanks for clarifying mate. Must have been a big night if people remember it almost 40 years on. Shame to hear about Fran. Both brothers were local heroes in the amateur boxing scene. Hogan was known as a very tough man. All the best.
Alright mate, thanks for your comment. I fought John Hogan in the dockers club on townsend Lane, it was the ABA's and it was the 1st year it wasn't in the Liverpool stadium. John Hogan was the best middleweight/lightheavyweight in this city. He had beaten every top fighter and it was my 1st year in the senior's ,but I managed to get a 1st round K.O. win, but I felt his power 1st. Then a riot started in the crowd cos a few people weren't happy that I'd won. Anyway it was a great night for me and the golden gloves ,but I wouldn't of been able to do it without my coach, Billy Harding, my dad.
@@paulharding8934 Definitely a great night Paul; people still remember it all these years on. I thought your Dad was your coach. He must've been really proud that night. We were from the north end of town - maybe Championship or League 1, while you guys at the Gloves were Premiership. For a few years back then, Liverpool had some tremendous boxing talent: You and your brother, Gilbody brothers, Foran brothers [R.I.P Neil], Wallace [R.I.P], Lyon, Hodkinson, Holligan, Hyland, Frost, Jimmy Price, Stevie Johnson, Terry Riley, Quarless are a few that spring to mind. John Hogan was known as a tough man. I remember a time [year or 2 after you boxed] when a couple of the more serious local doormen came at him outside the Quad, one of them wearing dusters. Hogan put his lady in a cab, covered his face with his hands, then slept the main guy with a left hook. So I guess I know what you mean by feeling his power! Anyway, hope to hear you on Billy's pod soon. I left Liverpool in the 80s, and it's a great way to hear from some of the well-known people from the city. All the best.

Was he a ginger fella
@@johnyour8343 no bro dark haired lad
