Lyrics:
I've got the old man's car
I've got a jazz guitar
I've got a tab at Zanzibar
Tonight, that's where I'll be
I'll be
Lyrics:
Call me a joker, call me a fool
Right at this moment I'm totally cool
Clear as a crystal, sharp as a knife
I feel like I'm in the prime of my life
Sometimes it feels like I'm going too fast
I don't know how long this feeling will last
Maybe it's only tonight
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes
Too high or too low there ain't no in-betweens
And if I stand or I fall
It's all or nothing at all
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes

The cool thing about getting old is that one forgets great songs, only to be rediscovered at the grocery store.
Yeah I just went grocery shopping tonight and heard this song again.
I was just a little kid in the 80's but I'll never get tired of 80's music.
I just heard this song at a pizza parlor talk about rediscover
You that right.
Anyone that suffered from depression will get this song, Stay strong, your not alone, People you don't know care about YOU. Hi, Still Care about you in 2024 👍
I'm there. Thx man. This last year's been a real bitch... trying to raise teenager as s single dad...so alone. 😖😖😞
That’s me
I'm with you. Going thru hell right now with family, work and dealing with the death of my dad. This system sucks but songs like this help me.
It's not just depression, bipolar fits this song too. Which is what he's rumored to have. But the feeling is the same. But I'm there with all of my fellow sufferers. I hope you find your balance.
The answer to my friends when they say why can't you be normal like everybody else. I knew this song explained a lot about me before I even knew what bipolar meant.
Ive been suffering from depression after my mom passed from cancer hopefully this will lift my spirit 😢
💙
Since I've learned why it was created, it's my favorite song. I hope you are better now after 10 months. On a really bad note, consider yourself fortunate to love your mother, I didn't have that chance. Really hope you're better.
Remember Billy went through depression and suicide. And music and kids pulled him through. You will be okay.
No te preocupes, lo va a hacer porque te va a llevar de un extremo a otro; porque tienes un ángel que te cuida desde arriba, ¡ten mucho ánimo!, la Vida continúa ✨🤙🏻✨
God bless your mom I’m 14 years cancer free
Vietnam Veteran here. He's been singing that song to me and for me for decades.
Congratuleccion my hero ex talsk force
@@vargaschilito2473 we were part of Operation Ivory Coast, Operation King Pin and The Son Tay Raid. We were Red Crown and made sure we knew what was in the air (bad guys) to make sure the Army Rangers got in and out without someone coming in from the air, or anywhere else. Damn Typhoon Patsy screwed that up, winds of 155 MPH caused them to move our guys to a different location a couple of days earlier, Intel missed that data but, the North Vietnamese knew we could find and strike them at any time, and would. That’s when they started treating our guys a little better. That was November 21st 1970.

Thank you for your service. I am very grateful!
Thank you for your service 🙏🏽
I'm constantly amazed at how varied Billy's sound and style has been throughout his career, and how he excelled at everything he did. Truly the epitome of a diverse musician.
Yes , Billy is a bad ass!!
yes he sounds so different here. i didn't know it was his singing this for years, anyway a great song
TOTALLY AGREE !!!!!!
Agreed
Diversity=Billy Joel❣️🤩
Every dude wanted to be like Billy Joel in the 80s. He was rock and roll. He was cool. He had the supermodel wife Christie. 😎
Music and words....have you ever seen ....or heard any of his piano playing?
This song does not get enough airplay!
No it doesn’t
This song got me through the worst depression of my life. It spoke to me in ways I never thought possible. I will forever be grateful this amazing song was written and released for all of us to enjoy.
How did this song help you?
One of billy Joel's best songs
That can be said about like all of his songs. Great talented guy. Saw him live recently. He was great and still rocks at 73!
Yep
Absolutely yes
Yet the only one people know at karaoke clubs is overdone Piano Man.
His best song and video. This sucker was filmed in 89 and still holds up. He's an icon!!!!
Damn right
Stephen Deac Yeah this is definitely cutting edge. it looks like something from 1993-94
Fucknoid Silversmith Yo, could hold a candle to today's vids. He's my fav man!
In my opinion, it's Uptown Girl. But this one comes next
One of the best lyricists of all time fucking brilliant
Man Stormfront was such a masterpiece. A really underrated album of his. This song really needs more views.
Over 2 and a half million views! How many more views does it need??
@@SuperC888 it needs more than cardi b videos
Have had it in my car and fell on love
Stormfront was/is killer.
@@RussellGreerOfficial agreed cardi b is ass
This video looks like it was a good time. Love to see the band having fun.
I have fond memories of my father and I playing air guitar to this when I was little, and dancing around the living room. I can't hear it without thinking of him, and smiling the widest my face is capable. Rest In Peace, Dad.. You taught me to live passionately and to fight for everything I want; in your name, I go to extremes
💟sweet💟
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful memories!
A lovely tribute to your dad.
I feel ya on that. Thanks for sharing.
The greatest Bi-Polar anthem ever written. Pure fucking genius.
Summer highland falls is good too but this one’s a little better I think
Absolutely, describes it perfectly!. Great thing it came out before mental awareness so it is all the more poignant. 1970’s child , child of the 80’s diagnosed with bipolar latter on in life !
Saw him recently at MSG. At 75 years old he’s as great as ever!
Saw him in San Diego, he killed it, including An Innocent Man, he was worried lol!
Hope he will be with us another 20.
2 nights ago in San Antonio, he was as amazing as ever! He definitely brought the house down! ❤🎉❤
Who else cannot resist yelling "Eager to please, ready to fight, WHY DO I GO TO EXTREMES!?" such an epic and great song full of passion!
Yes!!!
"Call me a joker,
Call me a fool,
Right at this moment I'm totally cool!
Clear as a crystal,
Sharp as a knife,
I feel like I'm in the prime of my life"!
I'm finally going to see the legend himself September 10th, my all time favorite artist!!
1989 master piece.
2020 master piece.
3456 master piece.
Greatness
In deed it is a masterpiece
I was gonna say “2025” but you tapped in to the energy and read the room. Brilliant! ⏳🎶
So here I am just sitting and minding my own business, and BAM, I all of a sudden need to listen to this song.
same here!
haha same here. Haven't heard it in years. Started going through my head at work non stop
David Anderson Yup.
same here, had it stuck in my head all of the sudden, and i haven't heard it in at least 5 years
David Anderson same.
As someone who deals with anxiety and depression intermittently this song struck a chord with me. Particularly that “I don’t know why” I sometimes feel fine and other times don’t.
This song speaks volumes to me. Sometimes I feel like I can take on the world, other times I feel like I'm being swallowed by it.
Some songs you can turn on and no matter HOW BAD your day, week, or month have been, you are energized again and ready to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is one of those songs. The man is an artist!!
YES, YES, YES!!!!
Billy doesn't need a piano bench... He's having too much fun dancing around haha love the high energy of this song!!!
Saw him in the Philippines in 90 or 91, when I was with the Marine Barracks, Cubi Point. I do remember him substituting “I don’t know why I go to extremes” with “I don’t know why I joined the Marines!” Loved it
Subic Bay Naval Base
".....why I go for ice cream" is another one he sometimes does too but that's a little less specific or more generic.
I love that there's not one DOWN vote on this comment. Everyone who heard it probably thought it was as funny as the OP.
Devin Shadow downvotes don’t exist anymore on UA-cam
Ughh so jealous! I'm a 90s baby and it was unfortunate I wasn't born yet when he had his concert in PH jk hahaha but I still do wish I will get to watch him live God knows soon ❤️🔥
A classically trained pianist who fell into rock and roll. Billy Joel
Not only my favorite billy joel song but one of my favs of all time. The passion of the song can be felt by any age whether you're 19 or 57 and feeling like maybe your life is spinning out of control. Whenever I hear this song, its a reminder to keep myself in check.
Great Song!
Billy joel went to alot in his life luv ❤️ the man he is
Look at how much fun all the musicians are having!
If i had a dollar for every minute i spent listening to this album in my car, I'd be a rich man...
M Blair Weng oh man, just imagine that: getting paid to listen to Billy Joel. That's my dream job
now I wanna listen to fat boys rich man lol
Me too. An “extremely” rich man. (Had to say it, but it is true.)
fr tho
Haha!
19... 89. This song is over 20 years old and still kicks the tail out of EVERYTHING the music industry has to offer us today.
33 years old now and super great.
Hell yeah!
Most under appreciated artist of our time.
your insane
I love him, but can't say he is underappreciated...he's been a legend since Piano Man.
@@TheSighphiguy - You do realize J Dog was saying that Billy deserves to be even more appreciated than he is, right? How is that being insane?
Under appreciated? The man is a legend
👏👏👏
As an individual that’s suffers manic/bipolar depression like me totally gets this.
Absolutely! 💯
Thank God Almighty that Billy's drummer stopped him from committing suicide early on in his career!! True Story!!🙏
Not trying to be a dick here but he did not stop Billy, he found him and took him to hospital.
Is Billy Joel's best song. It hits home to a good number of people. Great song.
This and big shot....agree
Maybe I'm heading over the Hill! Too high or too low extremes! When I'm gone, Jesus will take me home to HEAVEN!
We are nothing without faith.
@@mercedespernas That doctrine of discovery though.
Why isn't this song on his best of Playlist? SO many people can relate to his lyrics and the angst in his voice! An amazing anthem to all who have dealt with depression and anxiety. Billy, this song may be your most important and impacted one ever. ❤️
A true vocaloid. Musical genius in voice and piano.
Her name is Crystal Taliefero and she is one of the best percussionists I have ever heard. She started to play with Billy's band on the Storm Front album and is still a member.
always was in love wif her lol 💓🥰😍🤭
Okay ,...who is the spiky haired guitarist in the leather top ?
@@alphabeta492 The late Mindy Jostyn.
She was a multi-instrumentalist and on the same album that this song was on, there is a song called The Downeaster Alexa and she joined Billy's Storm Front tour to playing violin live on that song.
This Billy Joel Music Never Gets Old ❤👍🏿.
Storm Front is one of Billy Joel's best albums!
AGREED!
Adam & Jennifer: Agree 💯 percent
This song describes bipolar perfectly.. "🎼" too high or too low🎵 there ain't no🎶 in between ""🎸

Liberty rocks the hell out of those drums.....

At some points in the video the sunlight was pouring in like just after mid-day. Then there are night scenes. They spent hours making it. When it came closer to sunset they turned on the lighting in the next building, inside and out. Through it all the video has an energy that matches the song, which is difficult to do. This video is truly timeless.
this is really underrated
If current music was this good, we wouldn’t have to keep coming back to masterpieces like this.
"I Go To Extremes"
Call me a joker, call me a fool
Right at this moment I'm totally cool
Clear as a crystal, sharp as a knife
I feel like I'm in the prime of my life
Sometimes it feels like I'm going too fast
I don't know how long this feeling will last
Maybe it's only tonight
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes
Too high or too low there ain't no in-betweens
And if I stand or I fall
It's all or nothing at all
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes
Sometimes I'm tired, sometimes I'm shot
Sometimes I don't know how much more I've got
Maybe I'm headed over the hill
Maybe I've set myself up for the kill
Tell me how much do you think you can take
Until the heart in you is starting to break?
Sometimes it feels like it will
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes
Too high or too low there ain't no in-betweens
You can be sure when I'm gone
I won't be out there too long
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes
Out of the darkness, into the light
Leaving the scene of the crime
Either I'm wrong or I'm perfectly right every time
Sometimes I lie awake, night after night
Coming apart at the seams
Eager to please, ready to fight
Why do I go to extremes?
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes
Too high or too low there ain't no in-betweens
And if I stand or I fall
It's all or nothing at all
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes
No I don't know why I go to extremes
Too high or too low there ain't no in-betweens
You can be sure when I'm gone
I won't be out there too long
Darling I don't know why I go to extremes

Who else loves the energy of the lady singing back-up and beating on that large drum?
What a great song!
This is his Billy Joel's Number 1 Hit
He's the best music artist ever. He has so many legendary songs no mistake about that right?

Saludos camarada desde el ombligo del planeta México q estés muy bien tu toda tu familia cuidate
I just realized how I am literally this song!😂 I love this!
Hands down my favorite Billy Joel song of all time!
Mine as well. I was surprised to see that it went higher on the Adult Contemporary charts (#4) than on the Billboard Hot 100 (#6) or the Mainstream Rock charts (#10). It isn't one of his gentler songs.
@@jamesbowman6925 Truth. Not gentle but absolutely fantastic. Very passionate vocal performance.
This video captures the uncontainable talent of Billy Joel at his absolute best.Fantastic performance and production!!
Billy should be given some great award, not just for His enduring music, but also for his charity work, to wit, keeping a self opinionated, loud mouthed, second rate drummer like Liberty Devoto employed.
Thumbs up if you're here because you love Billy Joel
If you know what a grand father is
man, Liberty Devito is a great great drummer. Thats what i hear in this song, the drums!! Such a shame the way Joel ended up treating him so badly...what a punk.
Theyre friends now tho 👍
I love this song!
I just posted the same comment! Great Minds....You know the rest. 😁
The true King, BJ.
If you think of depression just know that I love you and you are gonna get through this wether you like it or not your gonna get through this and my brother is suffering from depression and my mom is doing so much so just know that we love you ❤😢
Such a rad song. Heard it earlier today in Pavilions shopping and hadn’t heard it in years. For some reason thought it was Eddie money but nope it’s my boy B Joel. Playing this on repeat for the foreseeable future. Wish I could like this 1 million more times over!
This song is about him being bipolar. I think it describes perfectly the feeling of being that way.
I love Billy Joel's work. This song has always been one of my favorites of his and has always reminded me of the best friend I ever had. She has borderline personality disorder. It makes me think of her every time I listen to it.
Yeeeeeeaaah!!!❤💫🧝♀️
I was born in 82 this music reminds me of my childhood and it makes me so emotional I want to cry
The best song to depict the struggles of Mania. Ty Billy Joel.
Storm Front is such an epic album!
Personally, this is my favorite BJ song. Liberty Devito NAILS this groove to the floor with a concrete pocket.
That he definitely does!!!! He’s amazing!!!
This song gives me a strange feelings of optimism and nostalgia.
Long Island's favorite son. Hicksville born and bred.
This song is the story of my life.
same, man. same. 😖😞
Exactly the same
Best song ever written and performed…..
I went to extremes and liked this video.
I also believe this song was is about his life , his battles with depression and as someone who has also been through this madness, u can get through it also, just wait for your ship to come in !
no time to wait for the happy boat.... luckily i live in a Legal weed state.
One of Joel's best songs!
Absolutely one of Billy Joels best, Allentown is next..
Was just leaving a successful Saturday morning at work, when this song came on the radio. Instantly I was 16, in Australia, and with the (soon-to-be) man whom I still consider to be the love of my life. Billy Joel, you (indelibly) touched my soul. (PS If a 1995 memory can still shake me up after all that's passed, you must know that the song really moves me.)
Billy Joel at the zenith of his musical powers!
He is surely blessed with the gift of music, What a talent !!! One of those songs where you feel like he's singing your feelings !!!
he has bipolar disorder so he might be singing your feelings
My life my music
What an amazing song.
My favorite one
As many have commented, this is a great song from Billy Joel. I think it's one that holds up well over the years. Liberty Devito lays down a slamming groove like a bricklayer. This is actually my favorite Billy Joel song.
One of my very very favourite tracks!
so much power in this song! brilliant melody!
I suffer with it for years thank goodness for meds ❤
I have felt like this many times , Mr.Joel has earned his place in rock and roll , it was a long hard road to get where he is, I am glad he made it :)
Jesus was the first Jew I fell in love with, Billy was the second. That's how amazingly talented and awesome he is! Hot in the wayfarers, Woof! I can't wait to meet Jesus and tell him that real men come from Long Island! :o)
Jesus was never a jew, he was a Nazerene and the jews hated him. The good news is that that makes Billy the first! lol
I’ve never seen a bad performance of this song live. But then again I’ve never seen a bad Billy Joel performance.
Billy knows us all too well, doesn't he?
awesome..he is one of the greatest song writers and performers of all time...
Amazing musician, a legend!!!!!
This song is about bipolar , every song about mania or psychosis get covered in people talking about depression, yes you should talk about it but not all mental illness songs is about that especially one about mania
Great is all I can say. Thank you Billie Joel.
I loooove the song and the video.
AND Storm Front. WHAT. A. MONSTROUS album!
Storm front is one of his best
