I would keep both sets of measuring cups. Sometimes you might be cooking two very different things (like stew and bread) and need measuring cups for each without having to stop to wash and dry them in between.

...I agree... I don't really understand the " no duplicates " thing, because you may well need extra measure cups, ...extra Large Serving Spoons .. etc. I suppose because I'm older, I'm not into all this minimalistic c***Because I grew up in a time where we had plenty of utensils, extras ... for everything we did in the Kitchen, lol.

@@texasstardust6010I think the “no duplicate” thing is mostly for people that don’t cook a lot. There’s no way I could make it with one set of measuring cups & spoons and such. I would be washing them constantly while cooking and baking. I have no time for that!

I was going to suggest steel wool. We had to do it underneath our kitchen sink and where are stove is pulled it out and there was a big hole where the electrical cord is put steel wall. We had the sticky traps before we did. It caught two mice and then the steel wall then mouse free forever

    • @lornag2227

Kristen, thank you so much for the video! It was awesome. Most important by steel wool mice cannot chew through it. Any hole you have anywhere in your kitchen under a cupboard on a wall wherever especially in the cabinet in the kitchen you showed us put steel wall. They'll never come back because they can't choose through it. Also. Now this is just my concern because you have little children. But you should not have any of your cleaning products underneath your kitchen sink. Unless you have a lock on the cabinet. Also the cabinet in your dining room where you have medicine that shouldn't be in there either or you can put a lock on that cabinet. Just a thought, just makes me very nervous. Children sometimes don't know and we'll put the wrong thing in their mouth. But other than that great video. Good motivation. Thank you❤

Steel wool stuffed in holes works so well for keeping mouse out of your cabinets and cupboards!! We found some cracks and holes inside the cabinets and on the back of the cabinets (wall) and it worked!! They can't chew through it and it blocks them from getting into the house.

Plug all your holes with the spray foam insulation wherever possible and stuff wads of steel wool in the other holes. Mice won't chew through steel wool. Keeping all your food in glass jars is also a great idea. You really do have to mouse-proof all your food storage . Glad you are feeling better in your 2nd trimester!

    A few things:
*Your hair looks especially pretty today.
*To organize the cords, use empty toilet paper rolls for the short ones and empty paper towel rolls for the longer ones. Just loop the cord and put inside the empty roll.
*If your fridge selves are crooked, then your floor must slant.
*You are not the only one with a mess under your sink. Me too!
*I also have mice. Living in an old house it is difficult to keep them from sneeking in via cracks. I find peanut butter is good bait on the traps.

Kristen, I fold my plastic grocery bags in a triangular shape like they fold flags. (Sorry I’m not sure what it’s called). It takes up no space at all really and I reuse mine to put in my small bathroom trash cans. I throw a few folded ones in the bottom and use one as a liner. They work perfectly and don’t take the space under my sink. 😊

Oh, Kristen, we've been through it with mice, too! All the recommendations for steel wool are right on target and will keep them out. The worst mess we ever cleaned up was at our daughter's 1800's house in the heart of the city!! She was young (23 when she bought it and inexperienced with many house owning issues). With a wide variety of obligations and work responsibilities, we told her we'd manage/clean the mess during one of our weekend visits. What an undertaking!! Those mice had partied big-time!!! Our Kristen was ever so thankful that her Dad found the access holes and stuffed 'em! She had two cats at the time, but they sure were not up to snuff catching!!!
Now, when our oldest son and d-i-l lived in a very old house in the heart of a lovely village, their cats would catch whatever mice came in!! I'll never forget our dear d-i-l freaking when putting her boot on, only to find a mouse carcass in it!!! Yikes!!
Our youngest son and d-i-l have dealt with it, too, especially when they temporarily lived with her folks in an 1800's house in the country!!
We, too lived in the country, a new house we built, that also was invaded by one or two that we had to track down entry from outside!! Break out the steel wool again, girl!! It really works, as they cannot chew through it!! Well, enough mouse stories, kiddo!
Love all your organizing, decanting of items into glass canisters, etc.
Thank you for sharing God's Word so faithfully, really the best part of our days, isn't it? How great is our God!❤️
Loved every minute of our visit and thankful to see you looking well and glowing with baby on the way!💖
And yes, I'd really enjoy shopping hauls with you, too!💯

I keep all my salty snack/items in the refrigerator. I learned this trick the first time I visited friends in FL. Everyone down there keeps crackers, chips, etc. in the frig. If you use rags for Mineral Spirits do not store them under your sink. They must be stored in a metal canister because if not they can heat up and combust. We had our cedar siding stained and the guy put the rags in a pile in the garage and they combusted burning our home to the ground. Luckily, it was during the building process so no one was hurt and our belongings were in storage. One more tip, make sure that your homeowners insurance covers housing, rental furniture etc in case of a disaster. It costs a minimal amount yearly but so very worth it!

I would leave the extra measuring cups inside the jars of coffee etc. where they fit, instead of getting rid of them. That way they are still useful, but not cluttering up your drawer.
We just organized and purged our lower cabinets in the kitchen. We spent a little bit of money and installed some pull-out stainless organizers from Costco. They slide out fully, hold up to 55 lbs and expand width wise to for your cabinets. I love them! I still have to bend over, but I don’t have to reach into the back of the cabinets. This is what you need for under your sink.
Some homeless shelters, etc. will usually welcome donations of full or almost full bottles of cleaning products.
I am slowly getting rid of all plastic containers in my pantry, doing the same as you and using sealer jars. I read that older Tupperware is not BPA proof, which is what I was using, hence the switch to glass jars. I have found a lot of larger jars for flour etc. in thrift stores.
Sorry for the long read 🫣. Great job on your efforts! 🤗

We live in a refurbished county cottage and began to have a terrible mice infestation. Every kind of mouse trap and still problems. Then we had a snake come in and after my total outrage my husband did finally see where the snake got in because he left be the same place. Mice can get in very very small places. Hubs filled that space with expanding foam and we put out sticky sheets all around kitchen and pantry areas. I started decanting EVERYTHING. Those tiny little critters can chew thru anything. Cracker boxes, rice boxes, heck, they even chewed the bottoms out of our chicken broth cartons. Most of this was going on while I was nursing a broken leg. I am still finding places to be scrubbed. Thru don’t just leave droppings, they pee on everything also. They got into my craft storage cubes and chewed up balls if decorative strings, Instruction booklets, etc etc etc ….. I finally adopted a kitten that our dog had picked out of a feral litter and I don’t think she willl allow any little vermin to share her space. BE VIGILANT.

Pull the steel wool apart a bit, and stuff the holes, then spackle. they won't come in, but you must put ALL your food in glass or plastic containers. even if you keep you prepackaged food in a big plastic bin, then the mice will not be able to smell or get to the food. Hope this helps you! love to watch.

Norwex rags are AMAZING - they’re great for windows/glass and countertop wipe downs/dusting shelves. No pesty spots or streaks left behind

Kristen, the steel wool is great, but if you get one and it sticks around, the STICKY traps are great! I put a little peanut butter in the center of it and a little corn meal to top it off!! Works all the time! We have a cat who will “tell” me if he hears something!! Beautiful, christen!!

Sticky traps are so cruel! I put them out and a mouse got in one, but only his 2 front feet. He got stuck under the stove and we could here him dragging the glue trap around for days and days, especially when I turned the broiler on. He was tortured. A trap is so much more effective and is a quick death.

I love your honesty. When I lived in the farm house, we had mice once in a while too. They ate the chocolate from the m&m and left the outside colored coating. So gross. Tape every whole shut steel wool. I bought sticky pads from Amazon and lay them everywhere. They barely touch them and they are stuck and can’t get off. I use them in garage basement everywhere. Catches spiders or bugs or everything.

When I was a single mom I lived in a very old home, holes around every pipe. So I put steel wool around the pipes and then sprayed expanding foam on top of that. it done the trick. I use to get mice and rat snakes inside, I guess the rat snake was hunting the mice? But filling in any holes also helps weather proof your home too.

    Your positivity is a
balm to my soul. I love it that you are so real. Yes other people get mice. Yes most people have under sink storage that looks like your before shots. I’m so thrilled that your family will have a new little addition. The world may not value marriage, motherhood, and babies but our Savior does. Keep on being a light to our world.

Hey Kristen! I always look forward to your videos. I am a retired music school teacher and now for fun I help people in my community to declutter/organize their homes for free. Just a simple suggestion. You can pick up a plastic/ceramic tissue cover from a thrift store for $2-3 (the kind that holds the smaller box of tissues) and place it in front of your metal basket that holds rags under your kitchen sink. This cover will hold at least 30 plastic grocery bags! The rest you could donate or recycle. 👍🏻

Stuff steel wool in the holes where the mice come in or squish up aluminum foil. They won’t chew through it.❤️

I grew up in an old farmhouse and my mom was constantly fighting off mice. She would stuff tinfoil in the cracks and that seemed to help tremendously. I just started watching your videos and really enjoy them. Gets me motivated to tackle many projects that have gone undone as life has been quite crazy for me these past 3 years. I enjoy the characteristics of the older homes. Especially country/farmhouse homes. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on organizing.

Happy Sunday Kristen, family, and fur baby. Thanks Kristen for the motivation and inspiration. Yes, I was just in the living room speaking with my husband regarding the plan for the week. We will be changing the drapes in the dining room, I will be organizing our China closet, which is a Broyhill and is about 45 yrs old, we bought it new. I declutter 2 to 3 times a year, here in the Burgh, we have the Veterans truck that comes around; all you have to do is go online and pick a date for them to come to your home, let them know an estimate of how many bags or items you are donating. Let them know where you will leave the items, like by the garage, driveway, deck, etc. I use them because if I had to put the items in our car, they would not make it because I would forget to drop off. We live in a old farm house, in the middle of the country too and what works to keep mice out of food is to move all food to upper cabinets and anything else to the lower cabinets. Upper cabinets were actually made to keep pest out. mice also love cardboard boxes so we only store stuff in plastic totes with a lid. Makes cleaning so much easier because you’re not down wipe down each item and open container bin. My favorite mouse trap is the bucket trap. Just make sure on the inside to fill it with some type of oil and not water because the oil traps the smell from escaping. Also kid and pets safe. Good luck! Love your kitchen.

It isn't the most fun but you've done a great job organizing and inspiring us! Yes steel wool in the holes you pointed to and also mice hate the smell of mint... You know the cotton round you might use to remove makeup... saturate one with mint and place inside your cupboard. Stay well You and Baby. Continued Blessings!!!

Kristen we've lived in the country more than 30 years. *PEPPERMINT*. Peppermint everywhere! Plug ins. Wax melts. Peppermint sprays. Diffusers. Essential oils on cotton balls or in little jars or bars of peppermint soap or an unlit peppermint candle in the back of the cabinet. Anyway you can get peppermint in those spaces, do it! p.s. Not candy! ;-) Like others said, poke steel wool in any holes. Yes to the jar containers! Anything that seals! (Mrs. Meyer has peppermints items still left!)

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get course steel wool. Stick it in every hole in your house that has the potential for mice to enter. Don’t forget the dishwasher water line. Keep all perishables in a closed bin (plastic or glass). You should see a difference in the mice problem. Love your farm house.

Kristen already commented but our bathroom door comes right out into the kitchen. It is a 1940s home on five acres. We love the land so much we will put up with the oddities and who wants a cookie cutter house. I think old houses have charm. We just went to an estate sale at a huge four story 1930s home...oh Kristen you would have loved it. The prices were so so low. We went back the second day because dumb me left a bag and my favorite thing..a gorgeous Spring wreath. Luckily they saw that someone had bagged their stuff and the wreath on topnamd keot it for me.

I loved watching you organize! I've been moving through my house one room/closet at a time. I live in the rural country side too and i can totally relate to the mice problems! Steel wool definitely helps to block off holes, but there are entry points that we don't know of 🤦‍♀️. We have even had chipmunks living in the attic who left their walnuts behind, lol. I've done the same thing with storing food and snacks in glass or plastic food containers to keep my family safe and the food protected. No matter how many traps we set, they always find a way!

As for the plastic carrier bags, I get so many with my grocery pick ups. I keep them corralled in a large kitchen bag and then donate to local resale/consignment shops. They appreciate having these for their customers’ purchases.

Wire wool in the holes stops mice and mice love peanut butter if you want to trap them.
As for the measuring spoons. To save space why not just keep the one in the silver set of the size you don't have in the copper (or vice versa). If you want a scoop - why not pop itin the jar itself. I do that & it works super well.

Have Josh cut a lid from a can, bend the ends up to make them sharp and put them in the holes, When they try to get in they will get hurt and it will deter them from coming into the house. HAVE Josh seal up the holes with cement so they can't come in that way. Look around the house to make sure there is no other entry into the home.
