I always love how safe Lou is. Freya is so well trained but her still chained her up before starting that saw. Brilliant! Safety can sometimes be tedious, but as the saying goes, you always rather be safe than sorry.
I love that Ghost is still a hard-working member of the homestead! I also really enjoy that we kind of learn along with you - thanks for sharing the trials and errors, and not just the wins!
Way to solve your firewood problem Lou. Very clever and effective! I have an xl Kindling Cracker like yours. It makes splitting wood for kindling a breeze. Addictive! Love it and the fact that a 14yo girl in New Zealand invented it. Plus its beautiful.
Lou’s storytelling is done so well, that everyone feels the win at the end of the build. 🙌 Plus the video editing is always on point and is so peaceful and easy to watch. 😌❤ It feels like just yesterday you all were fixing up the sail boat, or in Hawaii waiting on Max.
Just a thought, you want to have some air flow around the wood in the box for it to finish drying out inside. You may want to drill some large holes in the box so there is some air flow. Even "dry" wood brought inside often has some moisture it has reabsorbed from a damp, outside air.
Great work Lou I find watching chopping wood to be really relaxing - obviously its easy just watching and not doing. I love seeing your process for projects you do x
Aw thanks so much!! We're so happy you find it relaxing :) hope the rest of your day was full of other relaxing moments, too! Big snowy hugs from all of us x
If you're playing with many logs, you need a proper Peavy pole. Much better than the yellow thing you were trying. Love the videos and how you're always learning new skills
Enjoyed the video! I cut a lot of firewood in my younger years living in CO. I cooked on a Home Comfort, gray-speckled enamel cookstove that took small pieces of wood, and that was my job! We heated the house with wood as well~thanks for the memories~~💚💙💛
This video made me smile from start to finish. I am in awe of all that you have accomplished and aspire to have the positive outlook that the two of you have....joy radiates from each video you share with us. Like @wyntersynergyundignified, I enjoy learning from each of your videos. Love the guided mediations, hope you do more!!!!!
Haha well if you know anyone who has a lot of wood to chop, I am sure they would appreciate any help!! Thanks for the kind words, and hope you are having a really nice day, whatever you may be up to :) big hugs from all of us 💕
Hi Lou, I really love this video. As a matter of fact your film making has always inspired me. I have watched your videos for the past 2 years now... Thanks for sharing everything and creating this great content. Ps: I am amazed by your audio quality. It is something I sometimes struggle with. What microphone do you use when you hold the camera yourself? And do you process the audio in any way in post?
A bit of prep and hard work making chopping wood easier. Well done Lou, another project completed to make sure your family is well prepared and protected x
So glad you enjoyed spending some time with us today 💕 Thank you so much for the kind words, too!! Hope you are warm and toasty wherever you may be today!!
Was waiting for that big log to hit the car! 😅 Great video!!! Love your content guys. Making me look forward to our chilly winter here in country Victoria, Australia 🤗 get that fireplace cranking again!
I started using the Stihl carbide chainsaw chains last year and love them. I haven't sharpened a chain since. I cut down and up over 100 trees with my first chain before I replaced it. I am now on my second carbide chain and have cut down and up 60+ trees with it and it throws chips as good as it did on day 1 still. I don't miss my chain file for a second and will never return to a standard chain.
That is some high praise for the Stihl carbide chainsaw chain!! Thanks so much for sharing!! thats really incredible you havent needed to sharpen it since!!
@@WildWeRoam the only downside is that sharpening it is almost impossible. It requires a diamond grinding wheel. Some hardware stores will sharpen them, most won't. Hitting a nail embedded in the tree could stop your day without a backup chain.
Wow. I was not expecting to tear up from a UA-cam video…but that scene when you, Dana, and Max were all sledding got to me. What a great dream you guys are building. It is so cool to see you both working so hard at this, and also to see the setbacks and challenges you face and get past. I know for myself and others this is a dream I’d like to pursue someday, and it honestly fills my cup just you witness your journey. Thanks for sharing. Ps. Are you considering accepting volunteers to help out in the spring? 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️👨🌾🐓🏕️🪵
Aw Darren!! Thank you SO much for your wonderfully kind words... was looking for something in an old video and am so glad this search made me stumble on your sweet comment that we didnt catch earlier!! really the biggest smile on my face, thank you :)
I wonder if you can use the chainsaw to cut each piece in 3 or more using your jig, so that is already small enough to use in the wood stove and skip the splitting with the ax?
It seems that lots of people have firewood on their minds... Farmcraft101 upload this week was HIS way of dealing with firewood. Different situation/equipment but its worth a look.
No way! I guess it is the time of year when we want to optimize "warm and toasty" haha! Snow angels are only fun when theres someplace to warm up in, after... Thanks for the recommendation, we will check that video out!! Thanks, Tyler!
Can you provide an update on how your solar and water systems are doing in detail please? Also, where abouts are you guys, curious on the region etc. thanks in advance
Instead of getting little wood stoves for each of the other containers, would it make any sense for yall to get one more longer container to connect the three (in the shape of a W)? It seems like it would also be handy to have a bit more living space, especially if you'll be staying in the containers for a few years or more.
Just curious do you guys plan to fill in the spaces between your containers to make one building? It always perplexed us as to why you made the so separate? Even conected they would have had the same floor space amd been easy-to-use and heat.
Whenever I see someone with a chainsaw it reminds me of an old Health & Safety video "Ivan and his chainsaw", it's quite gory from what I can remember but still also you can't help but laugh when you watch it.
Ha i did a quick search for it and only came across a children's safety video called Ivan Inspects Chainsaw, I guess if the one you are thinking of is gory than it is probably not that... but I like the childrens one we found haha so thanks for helping us stumble upon that! Wishing you a wonderful Sunday 💕

Lou you are a mechanical GENIUS..Moving and standing up that log and the jig..You cease to amaze me

What a smart way to cut firewood to the correct size. So creative!
The little clip of Max at the end is just the vibe I need to get my day started.

This might be my favorite video yet. SO satisfying!
Lou that’s brilliant!!!
i'd be tempted to drill some vent holes in the firewood seat to make sure the logs stay warm and not mouldy
God bless you from New Zealand 😊❤
That little dada from Max at the end made my week! Love your content
So glad you guys are cozy and content at the containers this winter. Stay warm out there! 💙
Happy New Year!!
Welcome Back 🫂🫂🫂

I had no idea that there were wood cutting forums... I must investigate!
All that wood chopping looks so satisfying to do. Wish this was my life 😅 such a clever idea for cutting the wood in half Lou.

Thanks so much for always being around with words of encouragement, it really never fails to put a smile on my face!! Wishing you such a nice Sunday x
Freja wanted to fight you like a kangaroo! 🐾
Very satisfying video! I loved watching the process of gathering, preparing and cutting the wood. I’m happy you have enough wood to last for awhile. 💕

Wow never knew there was a specific measurement for chopping blocks
Indeed, so many details to keep in mind! Hope you are having a really nice Sunday :)

Thought you had a mini-split for that? 21:35
Yes, think misspoke haha! Good catch :)
Wood burning stove like that is why using an axe to chop down wood is better because you end up with pieces small enough to be considered kindling.
Wow I'm the first one ever to comment on this video yippee
Yay!! So happy to have you here Samuel 💕
I feel like it’s a running joke in movies that dads manage their emotions by going out back to chop wood 🪵 🪓 (like in The VVitch) haha
