Some info regarding the Czechoslovak and Polish posters: These kinds of posters were created in the communist era when many painters couldn't get regular work so one of the few ways they got to apply their creativity was doing movie posters. With the dearth of movies we were getting in those times marketing wasn't really a priority. So there.
Michal Petrov you are exactly right! But most people dont know about it, sadly... i appreciate you writing this, i was thinking about writing something of this sort myself but you beat me to it.. :)
C-3PO is saying "I of course have the ability to translate over 600,000 languages. That also includes body language, Master Luke!" on the poster, Dan.😂😂😂
hahaha guys I don't want to be that person but the Zombie poster is not from Italy but from Spain. The text is in Spanish and the adress that appears is Pamplona ( a city in Spain). But don't worry we forgive you. Everyone makes mistakes :)
@Ammon Herrera I don't speak much Spanish, either, but I was well aware of this mistake. I've been a fan of Zombi 2 (Zombie) for years now, and I knew a lot of the behind the scenes stuff. And yes, these guys aren't exactly hardcore horror fans, nor gorehounds... :(
The polish aliens one says OBCY not orcy. And it does mean aliens too. Also there's a site that collected polish posters of american movies and it's got like 12 pages. so if you guys ever wanna do a next part to this vid there's quite a lot options for you to choose from.
Currently living in Japan, it's really interesting to see how different they can be here. And how different the general design is for Japanese movie posters. Sometimes really weird from our perspective.😂

In the Philippines, a lot of movie billboards-- like multiple stories high -- are handpainted (large commercial printing has overtaken most of it though now) so it's always a bit wonky (they also Filipino-ize faces) because it's done by a team painting on canvas in a warehouse. If you google "Philippines movie billboards" you can see all these huge handpainted billboards for 90s/early 00s films hung up at intersections.
reggiethelion We had the same in Indonesia. Sometimes it looked wonky up close but if you see at a distance, like across the street from the theatre, they work. It’s a lost art nowadays, I think.
Goddamnit, you guys, I fucking love these pre-recs when y'all are tired and trying to make content and still do it excellently. Andrew Bill Clay, Suffalupgajoe, and Dan Cool really knock it out of the park. Never change, Screen Junkies. So much love to all of y'all!

Mike Kelly Also, him substituting “GD” for “God damn”. There’s an “All in the Family” episode where Edith Bunker scolds Archie about his language, “It’s nothing but ‘GD this’ and GD that!”
Fun fact: your fingers are moved by tendons attached to muscles in your forearm. Your middle and ring fingers are moved by the same tendon. That is why is it hard to impossible to move them like that.
😂😂 perfect. Ghanaian leonidas was great. However, if screen junkies would allow me to be their temp Ghanaian corespondent for a hot minute, I can guarantee that poster was made by pirates that vommed their creative juices all over their pirated copy. We didn’t even have a proper movie theater in the country in 2006. May I now turn your attentions to “Ghallywood” and “Nollywood” B movie trailers: Think of West Africa’s answer to sharknado-fare except 1000 cheaper. Would love an SJU segment on some of these unearthed gems :)
Also all of the Ghanaian posters would have been hand painted on a wall by one artist. and they would have to paint 2 or 3 of these posters around town. So inevitably there were some discrepancies.
You should do one for the translations of movie titles for the dubbed versions in some languages too, because some of those are gold. The Escape Plan, starring Stallone and Schwarzenegger, was released under the hilarious dubbed title (maybe tagline?) "Rowdy Rambo and KD Arnold" in one language. KD stands for the police term "Known Depredator" , meaning a known violent criminal or something.
Screen Junkies seems to be unaware that it used to be much more of a "thing" for countries to do cheap, internal knockoffs of major Hollywood releases, usually filmed as quickly as possible (sometimes in little more than days), to trade off the name of the big movies. Actually, it's still a pretty big thing. Some of these posters are clearly for knockoffs. Anyway, there's a reason it's called "Raiders of the Lost Arc" (with a C) and features a bald guy prominently: it was for a knockoff movie with a knockoff Indy and a bald villain (or henchman). Nigeria, especially, has a large film industry largely based on churning out imitation movies for local consumption; Ghana, too. There used to be tons more of these sorts of things produced inside the old Eastern Bloc for consumption in Communist countries.
When I was in Italy during New Year’s When force awakens came out they were posters advertisements even life-size statues in the shops for force awakens and a lot of revenant posters believe it or not

Man, how had I missed that C-3PO poster? I'd seen a lot of the Ghanan and eastern European ones, but they never get old. Also, from what I've read, the reason most don't have anything to do with the movie (which was touched upon) is that the artists aren't given anything more than a title and possibly a synopsis. They wouldn't even get production stills for reference. This is less of an issue now, of course, so if any new movies are using this style, it's a choice. And I, for one, kind of hope they are. :) Ghana's a little different, as Dan mentioned. These aren't movies getting big releases, but people doing art as part of video clubs. I love the passion that goes into this, though I do wish I could find articles about why they look like they do.
