Great video! I sometimes put some filter floss in a small regular net and swish it around the tank to catch super fine, floating debris/algae to keep water super clear.
Bucket diapers, brilliant. I dump my buckets down the sink or toilet sometimes in winter, this might be a great way to keep anything like a bit sand that i might syphon up out of the pipes. Perfect!
I use a grain scoop for scooping substrate. They can be found at Tractor Supply, McDonald’s Horse Supply stores and similar places. These are plastic with a straight edge. They come in different colors so you can use different colors for different purposes.
My turkey baster is my go to gadget...clean gravel, plants, catch babies...also a long handled stiff brush paint brush for scrubbing rocks and gently wiping anubias leaves!
Oh, I just remembered something that I do with my Nano tank. I use a toothbrush (new one only for fish tank) on rocks and in corners to get out algae or yucky stuff. Joanna it's good to see you back!
The paint bucket I find very handy. The turkey baster is also a great hack, but I don’t get mine from the Dollar store, I find mine in the utensil drawer in the kitchen 😬🤣
Girl, you are brilliant at dollar store completely useful tips! My favorite...the hang on tank lil paint bucket and the plastic razor blades. I am picking up both of these this week. Who knew dollar tree had such a nice little paint bucket with the perfect hang on for a tank, how utterly perfect! 👍❤👍
My favorite hack was using a comb to remove duckweed. I saw that recommended on one of your other videos, and it really does work wonders! I like my duckweed, but it IS a pain to thin it out, especially since I have it mixed in with Amazon frogbit in two 29g tanks and with salvinia minima in a 6.8g. The comb makes it so easy to thin the duckweed without impacting the other floating plants.
Good morning J! Love the Hack Show! I still need to go get me a turkey baster. A couple of odd things I use are; a new fluffy make up brush to clean off plant leaves and rocks. I attach it to a new paint stick to make it longer. I also use scraps of screen as a filter before dumping my tank water. Just to make sure I'm not dumping any tiny live things. Thanks for the info!
here's a tip : melamine sponges to clean the inside glass . melamine sponge is what magic eraser is. you can get 20 of them on amazon for about $10 . just wipe the algae off your glass ! pro tip , I cut them in little slices about 1/4 inch thick and can clean a whole 75 gallon with one slice .
My favorite hack you posted was the baby liquid medicine plunger (thingy?), for measuring aquarium chemicals/conditioners. We got 2 from our local pharmacy and it comes with a plastic corkscrew to insert in the bottle top and then pop the plunger in. NO MESS with half empty bottles. I found out I was actually under-medicated the liquid calcium my snails need for their shells! Thx again 😃
Hi Joanna! I love all of these hacks and implement all of them. I try every hack you share as I love the way your brain works. NO disrespect to the main channel at all, but your stuff here is my fav 🥰
Great video! I’ve been keeping tanks for forever it seems so usually hack videos don’t really do much for me, but this one!!!! This one was great and you taught me a few things!! I didn’t even know plastic razor blades were a thing, and I’m totally getting a paint strainer for my water changes. I’ve killed two garbage disposals now with aquarium sand!
I discovered the plastic razor blades on Amazon for using in the 3d printer hobby. They have since moved to the fish hobby, and everywhere else in the house.
The dollar store turkey baster and mini paint bucket live together in my equipment room and come out almost every day! Bucket for whatever I’m cleaning out - dead leaves, uneaten betta pellets (bc my bettas only eat what’s on top and 2 mm from their face), corner detritus - plus use the turkey baster for spot feeding shy fish and blowing up detritus to help it find the filter and mixing sand up. Still have the razor blade on my shopping list!
@@thesmallscape Works really well getting bloodworms and shrimp past my voracious tetras to my corys and Bolivian Rams (the latter of which would rather spar over food rights the minute food hits the tank than actually eat 🙄)
I also use magic erasers to clean my tank and works great on anubias leaves if you use light pressure. Love the paint bucket tip. Will be getting some of those tomorrow! Love the channel ❤
Shrimp net !! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I was scooping out dead salvinia last night with a plastic cup but it was still getting everywhere and I took out more water than I wanted! I always use a turkey baster for cleaning abs plants also! All tips are 🥇!!
All great hacks! I’m still holding out for that Dollar Tree baster!! My hack: instead of towels, I like to use a Shamwow type towel. They are extra absorbent and great when water spills on the carpet. It has saved me from always pulling out the carpet shampooer. (Which is also a necessity if you have kids or pets!) Hope you’re feeling better and getting to enjoy this summer weather in autumn! Btw, love the sparkles on your sunflower shirt and the matching sparkly bracelets!!! ✨
Oh, I absolutely have to get done if those towels, I’m always spilling something somewhere. Thanks for noticing my sparkly ensemble! 🌻🌻🌻 And I am feeling better thank you - such a lovely weekend we’re having. ☀️ 🍁
I love using my turkey baster for sucking up the gunk under my plants. 😳😳😳 plastic razor blades?!? Cool!! No more rust!! Go to head over to Amazon now thank you Joanna!
Plastics razor blades, awesome idea! I use the metal ones but I'm always scared that one of my bp's will hit against it. They like to abuse me while I clean their tank.
Favorite: Turkey B., we use it all the time. I have to try and get the plastic razor blades and bucket “diaper.” As you are now the Queen of Hacks, should there be an additional T Shirt or catch phrase? Save time : innovate, disseminate, then recreate ? Thanks, Jim
@@thesmallscape : Just for fun, tell Jason that the channel is coming out with “Prime Time Aquatics” diapers and wait for the reaction. On second thought, you might want to save that PTA bucket diaper idea for April Fool’s Day. 😀
I have a hack I need ideas for 😁😁 I derimmed a tank that had a lid and can't afford to buy clips right now. Any ideas Joanna? You came to mind as someone who may know.
Great video! I sometimes put some filter floss in a small regular net and swish it around the tank to catch super fine, floating debris/algae to keep water super clear.
PLASTIC.... razor blade? Genius!!! I'm on my way to Ace now! Thanks again!
You’ll love ‘em!! 👍
Probably safe for acrylic too I would guess
Bucket diapers, brilliant. I dump my buckets down the sink or toilet sometimes in winter, this might be a great way to keep anything like a bit sand that i might syphon up out of the pipes. Perfect!
You got it! I used to accidentally get stuff down the drain - whoops! Not anymore 😃
Wow I never heard of plastic razor blade. Such a good ideal and the paint bucket as well. Thank you for sharing.
Yay! Glad to hear it and good luck ☺️
It always amazes me how we find the most common objects to use in the aquarium hobby. Turkey basters are my hands down, most useful tool!

Nice! Oh yes, the right brush is invaluable 😃
My favorite was #4. I use the paint bucket to hang on the side when I trim plants. Also have used for substrate. Great video!👍

Good ideas, spotted a ticket on my truck today saying parking fine! It’s nice knowing the police like a good job.
Lol 😂

I love the bucket diaper!!!
Woohoo! ☺️

Happy Saturday 🎉
Thanks for the helpful video your so Awesome
Blessings love the shirt
Howdy howdy! Happy weekend and thank you!! 🌻☺️
I use those plastic net bags over my hose during water changes so Mr. betta doesn’t get sucked into the siphon tube anymore.
#2&3, thank you from NYC
Nice picks! You’re welcome from IL !
As always good ideas
Plastics razor blades, awesome idea! I use the metal ones but I'm always scared that one of my bp's will hit against it. They like to abuse me while I clean their tank.
I know - kinda scary using them!
Good Morning.
Great tips Joanna. I really would like those plastic razor blades. Do you use a holder to clip them to? Have a great weekend and thank you
They’re great Bonnie, I use with and without the holder, actually. ☺️
Plastic razor blades! Who knew? Haha Probably everyone but me! Great!
Nope, not everyone - no worries! Hope you like if you try them!
I'd be lost without my turkey baster. 😆 that's a sentence I thought I'd never say 😆 🤣 😂
