    Anxiety & Binge Eating Disorder
Nearly half of people with binge eating disorder also struggle with some form of anxiety. In this episode of WeighOut Wednesday, Dr. Ashley Southard explores the comorbidity of BED and anxiety, discussing how symptoms of worry, perfectionism, obsessions, panic, and trauma contribute to emotional and binge eating behaviors. She also provides information about how to effectively treat symptoms of both diagnoses, offering hope that lasting freedom from food IS absolutely possible!
    ***
Dr. Ashley Southard is a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders and trauma. She is the Site Director of renowned treatment center, aNewBeginning.com, and co-founder of TheHealthyWeighOut.com.

Please note that this video is educational and inspirational in nature. Watching this video does not constitute entering into a formal therapeutic treatment relationship with Dr. Ashley Southard, nor should it be a replacement for formal psychotherapy.

I started noticing that I began to eat to cope with anxiety, and the more it progressed I noticed more and more that the feeling that I have is that whatever I'm eating ends just too fast, and I feel I could eat for hours... because it keeps ending, its like I touch it and it disapeared, but I ate it!

I'm crying, watching this video. I'm getting fat and I want my skinny, slim, glamorous and fierce look back. I think I'm OCD type. I really feel like I've been anxious and insecure and unstable my whole life and I know this was all caused by my wicked childhood. How should I fix this oh god... I'm hopeless. I binge watch and overeat like crazy and then fast for 24 or 36 hours not to get fat. It is ruining my health and It even made me get more fat.

this is exactly what i’m going through. it’s a combo of stress eating and binging, hating myself and fasting the next day or two. it’s getting bad and i feel myself getting bigger. what i found that helps me, is by “binging” on tea/water or low calorie snacks. i also try to meditate a little in the morning. i also write down my thoughts when i go through a panic attack/trigger to eat on a notebook and that calms me down/makes me feel more control because i know what is happening and prevents me from binging. i hope you get over this. stay strong!

I can’t pinpoint what exactly is causing me to feel stressed and anxious but I have overspending and binge eating for about a week now. I feel awful, I want to stop and get back on track with my health and fitness journey but I just keep stuffing my face 😭😭😭😭

Thank you for the kind words, Cynthia Ava. We love providing information that is helpful to people around the world who are working on their recovery. I'm so glad walking has been such a positive resource for you - besides the physical health benefits, it has also been shown to support positive mental health. From calming the body to releasing pent up emotions to supporting the brain's cognitive and emotional processing, walking is an excellent source of 'therapy' :) Keep up the great work!

Sad I relate to all of this 😖😖😔 oh my gosh doctor I'm in a real real real crisis with myself, I can't even be around too many people like this 😖😔😔 my problem is I binge out of sadness, worry, agitations, anger, pressures, and then its fasting for 3 days and then back to the binge ,yes it does affect the health because I feel it makes my blood tests inaccurate 😔

Hi Monica, thank you for your comment. It sounds like you have great insight about the feelings that compel you to binge and then the vicious binge-diet cycle you get stuck in as a result of that. The next piece of work that will bring about true healing is learning how to respond to your Emotional Self in a different way, so that you're not stuffing the feelings down with food and then punishing yourself with fasting after. Learning how to compassionately and effectively respond to your emotions and your Self will allow you to no longer compulsively need food for comfort. If you'd like more education about how to do this "deeper work" that is soulful and life-changing, while being supported by a beautiful community of other men and women who are just like you and in search of FULL recovery, then please check out our new web-based members' community, Circle of HOPE. Here we offer two educational and interactive VideoCasts a week, teaching you all about how to craft satisfying relationships with food, your emotions, and your wonderful Self! For more info, go to: insidethemind.mn.co. Monica, you CAN fully recover from this issue and we can teach you how 💜

I have emetophobia and MANY panic attacks because i feel nauseous. When I‘m alone and notice nausea and that I‘m going to have a panic attack or when I already having a panic attack I think of food. It’s strange because when I was young I used to stop eatin, and now I just start to eat because mostly it’s going to be better.. even though I could vomit , I have kindof mixed feelings, first I don’t eat at all and then I know oh this is propably a panic attack and then I eat and eat and I’m scared and still eat and I don’t care…

Food is the most powerful medicine! Moving from the ideal of being thin equals beautiful to healthiness’ beautiful. I think considering that everyone is a very different beauty, in terms of weight, in terms of size, look. I’ve noticed that women are getting skinny thinner and thinner. There’s also so much information about different diets, and overwhelming and confusing… Its good aware of a good diet is to inspire women to make changes to their diet and also their lifestyle, diet, exercise, sleep based on hormone, health, longevity, beauty as well as skin in the future.
